pre: if villain has shown tendency to respect reraises, i'd reraise (assuming you have a tight image). without reads i think flatting is solid.

flop: raise more or just flat, depending on what you put villain on. minraise is straight up silly, although i highly doubt it would've changed the outcome of the hand. if you take anything from this hand it should be that you need to raise flop more if you decide to raise imo.

yeah, I see what you mean.

If I was shorter stacked I would've been willing to go all in preflop, but I don't really like overplaying AK when I've already built a decent stack, especially when he might re-raise all in and put me in a spot where I'm looking at a coinflip at best.

Kind of an odd question here, as I'm still unsure of my early level play. Through about 30 hands, ljoha hadn't played one yet, and slanpot had played 2 I think. I thought his UTG+1 limp was a little sketch (short and possibly trapping) , but was more worried about ljoha. I play incredibly tight for the first 5 or so levels, and after doubling up already wanted to protect my chips for at least another couple levels. Call and shove to any J high board? Reraise and call a shove? Or fold and pick a better spot? Kind of feeling like it was too nitty and missed a chance to build my stack more.

I'd push all in to isolate. Even if you lose, you still have 20 bbs left. Also, you were effectively playing 7 handed that round. Bad fold.

Something I like to do in the BB there because of stacking is make a small, almost donkish min raise, so that you leave a pot sized bet on the flop.

That being said, I agree with David, your raising that 100% of the time, and NEVER NEVER NEVER even considering folding.

I mean I'm definitely not liking my fold, but I don't know about never laying down there. The fact I would have been left with 20bbs is really the only thing making it a bad fold, imo, just felt like I was making a soul read, and unnecessary that early.

@prep-e -- honestly thats the type of play you should expect playing at those levels -- $5 sit and gos attract all the donkeys. Try playing some higher stakes games, you will still come across some donks along the way, but it makes for a much more realistic form of poker. (I'd recommend 30+ for sit n gos, $3/$6 games and up for limit holdem, and depending on the site pretty high stakes for no limit as you will get a ton of donks watching the all ins on tv then trying to press it to you on the website)

just my 2 cents

that's a good point. I used to think playing against a bunch of donkeys would end up making me more money in the long run, but it's not working out like that anymore. I built up a $50 buy-in to $860, and it's been all downhill since then. Due in part to poor bankroll management, donkey suckouts, and tilting in between.

Do you just keep playing tournaments for too high % of your bankroll?

if you can't beat 5 dollar sngs and microstakes cash games you definitely want beat any higher limits. You want donks in your games as they are the dead money. They may suckout every now and then but practice good br management and you can overcome the variance involved in poker.

take a break or something after a bad beat. If you have these traits you're no better than a "donk" yourself

I like doing this too especially against 1 limper. Your hand is strong enough to hold up against most hands and if he catches a piece of the board he'll likely give you action where as he wouldn't have otherwise
