^ I use a Nuud. I had the Fre previously and never was happy with the screen protection on it. It has a bubble feel to me. The standard type screen protector that the Nuud uses is much better to me although protects a little less probably. The rest of the Nuud feels a little more substantial than the Fre too IMO.

Any browsers that let you always view full sites instead of mobile sites? I've always used atomic web but it's been a while, doesn't seem to be working like usual. Also tried puffin and diigo with no luck

A few months ago there were articles abound about WalMart dropping the price of the 5s down to $99 in anticipation of the 6 coming out. Well, it appears as though Target has followed suit. My wife and I upgraded yesterday while we were down from Boone. I had not seen anything advertised and just happen to stumble across their in-store display.

Apple Watch is ugly. You'd think they would have been able to come up with something as attractive as the Moto 360.

i acutally think the opposite. the actual housing and bezel on the iwatch is classically beautiful in an understated way, but the functionality doesn't really interest me all that much. I think the one you posted above looks like a $30 Fossil, which...gross. But that's just personal taste.

It could look nicer, but it has a great UI, and looks like Apple has put some good work into some apps. Really well integrated into iOS it look like, including continuity support.

Pressure sensitive touch sensor is a nice touch.

No talk of battery life yet...

Cook just implied people are expected to charge it every night.

$349 is a lot for not a lot of features.

It's pretty common opinion that the Moto 360 is a beautifully designed watch.

I guess it being a circle and all. You probably think Tag and Rolex's look cheap too.

Either way not really interested in a smart watch unless it has utility other than notifications. Lately I've been turning off my phone notifications at work and social events simply because they're distracting. I don't need another device to notify me of work emails.

If I'm going to pay $$$ for a smart watch it's going to be a Suunto Ambit 3 or Garmin Fenix 2. These have actual usable features (gps, altimeter, thermometer, compass, barometer, and ton of running, skiing, swimming, etc apps). Things I would actual use on a weekly basis for working out or going on trips.

^ iWatch has all those features (GPS requires pairing with iPhone though), and a full SDK, so pretty much endless 3rd party apps.

Featurewise, because of the development platform, iWatch is going to end up having the best software for it.

The Android watches are still too fragmented, which means any individual app is going to struggle more to gain critical mass.

Ironic that the thing that stifled Mac OS (windows' software dominance) is now working in Apple's favor.

^^

There's no built in GPS. The barometer is a nice touch. No thermometer? That's key. If I'm back country skiing for 8 hours I'm not going to rely on my phone being paired with my watch for GPS support.

I guess they're two entirely different types of watches. Outdoor/sport watch versus a smart watch.

If I'm going to spend $$$ on a nice outdoor watch it's going to be a Suunto or Garmin. The Sapphire Suunto is $600 though and it's much nicer than the Apple watch. Both the Suunto and Garmin do exactly what you want them to do if your focus is some outdoor activity. I highly doubt the Apple watch is going to have "the best software" (at least for outdoor activities) for quite a while (if ever) and not until later iterations or it. Talk to anyone who's used a Garmin or Suunto watch for a marathon or triathlon. They simply work and both companies have had years of experience making them. They've got dedicated hardware buttons. You can't use a touch screen if you've got mountaineering gloves.

Again two entirely different types of watches.

^^ swipe up from the watch face.

The main face looks like it can be customized to show different things (calendar, stocks, etc.).

Apple seems to be embracing "customization" based on the direction of iOS8 and AppleWatch.

16 GB is bullshit. They are basically forcing everyone to spend another $100 for decent storage. Aside from that, the Apple Watch is a great way to make yourself the target of an armed robbery. Still want that iPhone 6 plus though

I'm too invested in android at this point to make the switch. The larger iPhone is nice, but then again they jump from 16 to 64 GB? Thanks but for $200 my phone came with 32, which is just enough. Oh and my screen is already the same size as the plus, for 200. They just aren't compelling me to spend that much more money for less than what I've already got.

I think people's expectations for ground breaking technology in the smartphone space is unrealistic.

That time has come and gone. It's just a phone now. There's not much more you can innovate... for now.

I bought a 5s last fall... I want to see how these two larger phones pan out. After a few months, there should be a consensus on what the better size is.

That, and there's no way in hell I'm forking over more $$$ just to pay for an upgrade.

Most people still own a 4s, so those who bought a 5 or a 5s were kinda dumb for not holding out for the 6. My 4s barely holds a charge and is kinda banged up, but there was no way I was getting a 5 or even a 5s when I knew there'd be a much bigger leap in technology/features for the 6.

A lot of people don't buy iPhones the day the come out on launch (I didn't). If you did, then yeah, you might be due for an upgrade, but a lot of people wait until the craziness dies down and bugs get worked out, or they're still in contract with another carrier, etc. Also, some people don't feel like shelling out money for a new phone every year.

I had a four that was going downhill and so I upgraded to the 5 in Dec of 2012, there is absolutely no way I could have made it until now for the six. I might wait for the next iteration before my next upgrade though, I want to switch to AT&T because Verizon get zero service in my office but my wife's contract has about another year on it (I could still switch and leave her on Verizon but it would be more costly).

Hmm, that is something I hadn't really considered. I do have wifi in the office, not sure how well that would work, the biggest issue is it kills my battery even with wifi on. I usually just turn it on airplane mode with wifi on.

There were quite a few android fans saying that they might consider switching to apple if they had a larger phone. With the price tag being $100 more for pretty much the same features android folks get now, I don't see many people that have been holding out make the switch.

And the watch is completely useless to us android folks.

The carrier has to support volte and the iPhone can seamlessly switch between wifi/lte for calls. My att reception is crap at my apt, so this would be sweet, if att supported it.

The apple watch pretty much works with any iPhone now... I think it's any iPhone 4 or newer, which is the vast majority of iphone installed base.

The 6 looks like a lot like the HTC M8. It's not a bad thing, they're both nice looking phones, but it doesn't have any "flair" to it-- it's not uniquely Apple IMO.

Smart phones are becoming somewhat of a commodity, so i guess this is to be expected, until the next big tech revolution (just like fast/cheap/lowpower CPUs allowed the smartphone revolution) allows a substantially new class of device.

The 240FPS high speed video mode is going to be pretty sweet though.

i have a 4s and don't really see a need for a 6. i like the 6; it's neat, but there is nothing compelling. sure there are lots of camera features but 50% of the time i'm using my phone camera to take pictures of receipts on business trips. as for apple pay, well, nfc stations aren't at most retailers, so that doesn't drive me. i do like the health stuff but i think that will on 4 just with limited features, since 4s runs iOS8.

i may get the watch. the fact that it can measure your pulse while on your wrist is a big step forward- no more strapping heart monitors. while the watch may cure cancer or anything, i'd bet it's a more successful wearable than google glass.

The VoIP thing was so three years ago when Republic started this.

Fun seeing all the fanboys getting excited about this great new development, when I've been doing it for a while now with my Moto X and Defy XT before that.

I'm pretty pissed about that too. My iPhone 5 (purchased 10/12) is 16 gig and I hit the storage limit all the damn time. 32 gig would be perfect, but instead if I want the 6 with more than 16 gig I have to blow another $100?

Well sure, but maybe people want mobile data *and* VoIP. Not everyone is interested in paying $10 a month or whatever and going without mobile data (yes I understand you get a trickle with Republic...or "unlimited" thru a cocktail straw for $25)

Quote :

You're only saving HUNDREDS if you currently overpay. I get AT&T service with 3GB of LTE data for $45/month. Not sure why anyone would want to pay similar $ for shitty Sprint service.

LG G3 is relatively the same size as the 6+. Fits perfectly in my hand and I think is the ideal size for a phone.

Also that looks like a 8"+ tablet.

what you quoted me for was a response agreeing that republic currently does (and has done) what the iphone is just now able to do (voip)...and it does it far more cheaply (saving hundreds)

you responded that you get 3GB of AT&T's LTE for $45...which is great (i do, as well), but unless you're with republic, you're not getting the voip feature*, which was the whole point of the "republic already does this and it's cheaper" comment

*i realize now that hangouts lets you make hangouts-to-hangouts voip calls for free, it's less of an issue, but that's still not the same as native voip for ALL calls
