Yeah, I think could do a little better job writting that up. I might concider putting a quick start guide on the page separate from some of the technical details. Here is about as simple as I can make it:

1. First you can't use the google client since I don't think you can configure the team. You would be folding for the Google team.
2. Go to http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html and download the recommended graphical client. (For some reason that site is down right now while I'm writting this.)
3. Double click to run the installation.
4. Enter a unique username.
5. Enter 59 for our team number. (I don't remember if it asks for this in the installation. Yuo may have to go to preferences to enter it.)
6. Let it run and forget about it.

I hope this helps.

It's most likely a series of partial credit for WU's that failed.

Now with summer break, it will be difficult to keep our production up. We've lost 7 active users in the last few days. Do what you can to pick up the slack.

my laptop has since died. i should be getting it repaired within the next month or two, but since i'll be having a new computer built soon, tell me what relatively cheap and trouble-free things i might consider adding on to maximize FAH's ability?

PS: i almost never read this thread

^^You could always run dual processors, but that can get a bit pricey. My only other suggestion would be make sure you have a good CPU HSF and case fans to help keep cool.

yea, fastest processor you can afford, typically intel's P4 w/ HT and Athlon 64's are the best for multitasking while FAH is running, and get a good Zalman 7000 HSF for your CPU since FAH will make your CPU run at 100% all the time

^shit, an athlon 64 was my first choice

although my dad tells me there's one that should be getting cheap soon, since they're discontinuing it, and suggested that i go for it.

You should be fine. If you are concerned about temps, you can use Motherboard Monitor to keep an eye on them.

that giant box is a plastic air duct. it does a damn good job at improving cooling, especially since dells use pretty low rpm fans.

^^ I guess they found some old uncredited WUs.
Quote :
"8/21/2005 Stats crediting. We have developed a way to efficiently test to see whether a WU has been credited and are running a stats update with this tool. WUs which haven't been credited in the past for some issue will likely be credited in this upcoming pass. We have a long list of WUs from the past which were potentially not credited due to one issue or another. Since many checks must be made during this process (in order to not to double credit), this process is very slow and may take 1-3 days to complete."

^By running the protein folding simulation you will be helping to model proteins that involved in many types of diseases in the hopes of one day the information gained on how disease related proteins misfold may lead to more effect treatments in the future. Supporting our NC State team and competing against fellow folders could be your motivation as well.
