it IS a great starter bike, and the condition seems to be great. however he wants too much for it. even though those secas displace 600cc, the performance is more on par with 500 twins than the sportier liquid-cooled 600's. On the positive side secas are very compact with a low seat height, comforatbale to ride and unintimidating. 4/26/2006 12:24:46 AM |

anyone wants and ugly but fully functional one-piece suit?
you would have to be right around 5'7'' to 5'10'' i guess
i wouldnt ride around town in it but if you tryin to take you bike to the track or you wanna do anything else involving hitting pavement at high speed this be straight for you. my current bike is not destined to see that track and a new bike is couple years in the future
$20 yo can have it 4/26/2006 1:58:56 PM |

Kinda pricey to me. I bought an '83 Interceptor over 10 years ago for $1000. That bike was awesome back in the day. Still not too far behind the newer rigs. 4/26/2006 10:54:36 PM |

These old bikes are good if you want a bike to learn to ride and will sell it in a few month.
If you're keeping it, you have to worry about finding parts to keep it running. If I was thinking of buying an older bike, spare sparts costs would figure into what I pay for the bike. 4/27/2006 9:24:04 AM |

is that the end did you get the bike for a G or did he want more for it and said fuck off...you can't leave us hanging and not finish a story about what happened 4/27/2006 4:16:54 PM |

lol...well we talked about it, i showed him (nada, kbb) show he knew it wont worth 1700, but he said he had some more ppl coming today to look at it. I just said to give me a call back when he gets their offers, etc. He just spent about $200 to get it tuned up, just needs to be inspected.
I think i was pretty smooth about it, i showed that trade in was 800 and retail was 1200, and i said ill split the difference

1978 Suzuki RM400 motocross bike
I bought it as a project, but I don't have time to work on it. It runs when you poor gas in the spark plug hole, the carb needs cleaned to run properly. tires are good, shocks are good. This was the fastest bike around in its day.

UPDATE bike now runs! turns out this bike the kick start is ahead of the clutch mechanism, so if you hold the clutch in the motor doesn't spin. NO I am not that stupid.
the clutch was adjusted too tight and was halfway engaged, so the motor only spun about half a revolution each kick.
I put a new bowl gasket on it, sprayed out the carb, and she starts right up. It's loud as hell though, a couple of exhaust leaks.
still for sale, $400 not negotiable (since it now runs)

How would you rank the GSF500 with the Suzuki Bandit 600 for a starter bike. (Other than the 500/600 diff and power band (as previously mentioned)) 5/1/2006 1:21:13 PM |

they would both be fine. the 500 obviously being a better starter bike. i would get a bandit 600 i like those, but that's just me. 5/1/2006 1:53:18 PM |
