^ditto. The answers to a few bigger questions were given to us last night. They are hinting strongly at answers to even bigger questions and starting to reveal what about this island is so friggin amazing/magical....
Certain characters (psychically?) "commune" with the island like no one else: Locke's dad appears. Jack's dad appears. Kate's horse appears. Ecko's brother appears. Desmond's psychic ability. Walt's abilities?!? (im guessing because they need a sub to get out that Michael and Walt never made it. Ben also said that if he "let anyone go" then it would show weakness ) etc....
All the LOST haters STFU cuz that episode was killa dilla. Quit bitching or go watch heroes until you start bitching about that show during the 2nd season.... 3/22/2007 7:37:54 AM |

maybe eventually the survivors will start seeing the connections between themselves (Sawyer was taught by Locke's dad).
I am looking forward to next week. However, how the fuck did Locke's dad get onto the island unless he was already there when the survivors got there. This is some kind of mind trick the others are doing to Locke. 3/22/2007 10:13:37 AM |

Yeah, I'm thinkin this 'magic box' is just a way to get control over Locke because obviously he is the weakest-minded. Now begs the question how did his dad get there? I think its not too over-the-top to think that Locke's dad is Jacob. But then, what about Ecko's bro? what about Jack's dad? the horse? These are still questions that I'm thinking will be answered soon. 3/22/2007 10:23:17 AM |

The reasons there was a Dharma inititive and that there are people still on this island in the first place has to do with the islands "magical" characteristics. This "magic box" that Ben spoke of obviously is unique to this island.
Can the "magic box" raise the dead? (Jack saw his dad / Ecko saw his brother / Hurley saw that guy form the mental institiute / etc.) When ecko looked into the smoke monster, (S2) we saw images from his past flashing through the smoke. The smoke monster could be the "magic box" or an extension of its power at least. Its obvious that the power on the island is supernatural or psychic, so whos to say that the people who seem to be able to "commune with it" (locke for example), do not affect what it creates from their memories? If it can possibly raise the dead and bring them here , then why not the living through "chance" events ? (such as desmonds boat race or all of the events that connected the crash survivors and got them on that plane)
I think that Locke's dad was brought to the island by the island and its "magic box" because of the smoke monster's contact with locke in S1. Locke said "I looked into the eye of this island, and what I saw was .... beautiful". And now 70 days later his dad pops up here too?!?! He realized something there that they have not fully revealed and that (as Ben suggested to him) he does not even yet fully realize.
What they have been slowly revealing is that they were all brought here by the island. Exactly how this works and exactly why these specific people were brought here we probably wont know for a awhile yet. I bet that because they revealed so much in this last episode regarding the main mystery of the island, that the next few episodes will go off on a completely different side tangents....

why does it need to "raise the dead". you see what you want, thus jack saw his dad, does it mean he's really there? not necessarily. 3/22/2007 12:13:51 PM |

Great point^. Thats why I asked the question. Is that really Locke's dad in the chair in that room or is he a creation of the island in the form of Locke's dad that it got from Locke's mind?
Considering Jacks dad, Kate's horse, & Ecko's brother were there and then gone it would seem that perhaps that really is Locke's dad, but we dont have enough info to go on yet....
Its obvious that Jack's dad IS NOT Jacob and that he very recently appeared on the island: why would they have their leader tied up in a chair? If he had been there for awhile, then why would Ben use him as an example of a "magic box" creation? 3/22/2007 12:26:13 PM |

Anyone else notice that Locke's dad was drinking the McCutcheon Scotch that Desmond's "almost father-in-law" drinking. Both were drinking the scotch right before they pwnt those who are now on the island.
In both instances, two glasses of McCutcheon were poured, niether Locke nor Desmond got to take a sip. (Desmond got punked, Locke got pushed through a window)
Probably doesnt matter, but interesting none the less. 3/22/2007 1:19:48 PM |

Yeah, I like the smoke monster=magic box theory. I don't think Ben literally meant there was a big room that you go into and what you want appears. It's pretty clear that all those things that people have seen (like Eko's brother) was the smoke monster in another form. The writers even said late in season 1 or early in season 2 that we have probably seen the monster more than we think, we just didn't realize it at the time. It scans people's memories, figures what they need/want to see in order for them to see/realize whatever the island wants them to and then it appears as that thing.3/22/2007 2:48:18 PM |

Locke's dad was in the chair.
(prolly been said be4 but it would make sense to me that the "smoke monster" isn't smoke at all, but tiny pieces of magnetic dust or whatever, controlled by the EM fields somehow. i guess "smoke monster is just easier to say.

I think locke's dad was the man from talahasee too. Im pretty sure that tallahasee was where he was conning that woman last time we saw lockes dad.
He knew locke (in the closet when he said this) would begin to think about who from talahassee he was talking about and you know he wanted to show locke that they had his dad captive.
The title of that episode was "the man from talahasee" and who do we see at the end: locke's dad 3/22/2007 3:40:13 PM |

I'm sure you mean Locke's dad.. .but anyways... it is still possible the Locke's dad may be Jacob (though I doubt it). They would tie up their leader for the same reason they sent Ben to pretend he was Henry Gale, to mind fuck with people and extract information.3/23/2007 11:24:08 AM |

an idea about the submarine from TVgasm writer, Greybishop
Quote : | "Remember when I said that we should keep in mind that Ben manipulates people AND that Locke says he'll keep it in mind? Here's why: Locke came down the dock soaking wet after planting the explosives. He was inside the sub. Why would he be soaking wet?
Two possibilities come to mind.
The first is that in his effort to destroy the sub, he was very thorough, opening the tanks that hold the ballast water (subs go up and down by regulating how much ballast water they carry with pumps) and planting the C4 in the tank to ensure that the sub would sink. Unlikely but given Locke's fascination with strategy games, it's something he might take the extra time and effort to do. Depending on your perspective, it might also be wise because by planting the explosives in the ballast tank, the damage might be repairable in the long run, as opposed to say, blowing up the sub's engine room. A little arc welding and sheet metal and you might be able to use the craft again.
The second is more devious and the one that I think more likely. I think that Locke used that strategy game knowledge and flooded those ballast tanks, sank the sub and swam to the dock. Then he set of the C4, blowing up enough of the dock to make it seem like he'd blown up the sub. That's why he's soaking wet. He had to swim out of a sinking submarine." |
I never really thought about why he was wet... second option sounds so locke to me though.3/23/2007 12:39:48 PM |

no, it was definitely water.. i thought it was odd that he came out soaken wet... I don't know enough about subs to formulate a theory about those tanks... it does make you wonder though.. When Locke said "I could have been a ____ for the U.S. Navy," Ben shot him an interesting look 3/23/2007 12:46:50 PM |

So is there really a "magic box" that caused Locke's dad to appear or do you think he was already on the island and Ben is making up the "magic box" story to fuck with Locke? If there really was a "magic box" why wouldn't Juliette have already used it to get off the island. However, Ben said something along the lines of "I found out i needed surgery and then the next day a surgeon (Jack) dropped from the sky" which supports the fact that there really could be a "magic box". 3/23/2007 4:08:36 PM |

There really is some kind of "magic box" at play here. They have been hinting at such a thing in so many ways for so long now. I doubt it is an actual box. I would be willing to bet that the "magic box" description is accurate only in the "magic" part and that Ben and the Others do not yet fully understand what the heck makes all of the "magic" happen. Its just like Ben's character to use an inaccurate parallel when explaining something that he wants to keep secret.

^^Yes
The girl found out that the guy had actually found the diamonds.
She threw one of the medusa spiders on him...which paralyzes you so that even doctors will think you're dead.
While she's stealing the diamonds back from him, she gets bit by another wild medusa spider.
She runs, burys the diamonds, runs out onto the beach, and says "Para lyzed" when asked by the fat guy...bad with names...what's wrong (Which was mistaken for 'Paulo lies')
The survivors bury them both...alive....she opens her eyes just as they cover her, but they don't notice.
Shitty episode over
