^ orange peel is way too big for stage intimacy

granted, it's way better than a place like lincoln theatre or an outdoor venue, but cradle is way better for engaging with the band

the orange peel has a nicer facility and a huge bar, but i wouldn't consider driving to asheville just to see a band.

plus like vinylbandit said, cat's cradle is a lot more intimate.

Earplugs, yo.

My hearing is already too far gone to not wear them.

if anyone is looking for quality earplugs, I HIGHLY recommend HEAROS high fidelity ear plugs:

http://hearos.com/earplugs/products-00211.html

I refused to use earplugs live for so long because I lost so much of my tone and range of frequencies on stage with any style I had tried that I couldn't stand it. Someone finally mentioned these and I tried them and loved them right away. Been wearing them at every practice and show since

Oh dang, those are pretty cheap. I've been looking for some plugs to wear to shows that don't make everything sound so damn muffled, but a lot of them seem to run $50-$100. I'm gonna try these out.

yea they really let a much broader range of frequencies through while still cutting the volume down. There has only been a few venues that I wasnt fully satisfied. One was the Civic Center in Asheville, I just didnt like the sound when I had them in there so I ended up wearing one of them at that show Other than that no major problems.

Its not perfect of course, but worlds ahead of just sticking some foam ear plugs in there.

I can't go as I'll be at work, but I can highly recommend that show to anybody with functioning ears.

^^ Saw them open for Silver Jews about a month ago, it was AMAZING.

wish i could justify going to see minus the bear tonight in asheville..its in the opposite direction from my place in SC as raleigh though so kind of an annoying detour that I dont feel like taking.

In other news I went and saw Empire! Empire! (I was a lonely estate) last night. Despite the ridiculous name and the terrible terrible venue it was a fun show and they were some nice people.

Incorrect.

They'll be at the Brewery (wtf) on Sat. Nov. 8th, with Kayo Dot and Stove Bredsky (Steven Brodsky, of Cave In). It should be a rad show. Pelican is great live.

I remember they had some type of equipment problem when they played the 506 last time. I would have gone to that show or the Bishop Allen show if I hadn't just got back from Boston and had to work on Sunday.

pelican is great. their drummer is the only thing I dont like live. You might know, I was in raleigh this past weekend and will be in raleigh 2 of the next 3 weekends..but not the weekend of their show. oh well.
