BTW, if you're a new fan of Don Cherry, you can get recent Coach's Corner segments here

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/hnic/coachscorner/

and there's a bunch of older stuff on youtube.

Sorry, I've never been a big fan of Don. Some of his stuff is good and funny no doubt but he pisses me off just enough where I don't like him.

After seeing him at the RBC Center for the Finals in 05 wearing his traditional ridiculous coats (this one was covered in Oilers emblems....) and hearing what he had to say about Letowski being cheap shotted in Pittsburgh, I had enough.

I couldn't find a pic of Don in Oilers jacket. I have a pic I took but it's so blurry not worth putting up. I know the video about Letowski is online I believe in a Coach's Corner segment. He was talking about keeping your head up.

Oh well.

That's nothing personal with Letowski, though. Whenever one of those hits happens, he talks about keeping your head up and not admiring your own pass, specifically when it's a right hand shot cutting to his blind side. It was borderline late, but the hit itself was completely legal.

Here's the one from the night is happened, if no one saw it:

Yea I know nothing personal just pissed me off. Too close and hit was way too high in my opinion. Thanks for posting video BTW...I'm at work and should be doing work...

The league has got to decide whether it wants to ban all hits to the head or not. I don't like hits to the head, either, but as long as you're not leading with your hands or elbows, they're legal. Armstrong didn't even follow through with his forearm, Stevens-style.

I'm with ya man. Which bring me to my next point. Scott Stevens was a DICK. I think he was the first player I actually hated with a passion. But that was his job and he was damn good at it, haha, well along with scoring and that crap.

i remember back in 02 playoffs we played them and we landed awesome seats 2 rows back behind devils cirlce to the right of brodeur. pre-game warm ups and Stevens was right in front of me and started beating on the glass and yelling like fucking crazy, i was screaming through the glass partition and he shook his ass at me....fag. haha ok weird story and totally off topic....

Hits to head should be banned no discussion.

I just wanted to remind everyone that buffalo choked once again. Plenty of talent, lots of douchebaggery, not much coaching... Its been nice being without mshaul though. I wonder at what point he will re-emerge.

by the way, that shirt is definitely some UNC fag shit.

Here's the NBC video when Don Cherry was on during intermission. Thought people would be interested. He doesn't seem as crazy as he was on the other CBC clips I've seen on the net.

Although I have to say, hearing him say there was no kicking motion on the goal from the other night was nice.

This has nothing to do with the playoffs but all of the NHL fans are probably reading this thread so I'll put it here.

There are serious talks in the NHL to expand to 32 teams, adding Western Conference teams in Las Vegas (Jerry Bruckheimer has been negotiating for months to get a team in Vegas) and Kansas City, and to move one current West team to the East (probably Detroit), giving the league 32 teams. They would either go to a 8 divisions of 4 like the NFL, or back to a more old school approach with 4 divisions of 8.

Thoughts?

Would this water down the talent pool?
Is it smart to add 2 franchises when some existing ones (Nashville, Atlanta, perhaps Florida) are struggling?
Kansas City has a beautiful new arena ready and has been campaigning hard for a team, but could either of these cities support a team?

Where are you hearing this? Nashville is moving to Hamilton, so that takes care of a West-to-East push, but I haven't seen anything serious about expansion. The talent pool is watered down enough as it is (outside of goaltenders).

About 16 minutes in Bob McCown talks about it, saying that the NHL is preparing to announce it. I took that with a grain of salt.

This, on the other hand.

http://www.kuklaskorner.com/index.php/hockey/comments/talking_las_vegas_baby/

Quote :
"Talking Las Vegas Baby

from Liz Mullen at SportsBusiness Daily (paid sub.),

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly confirmed that the league has been in discussions with powerful film and television producer Jerry Bruckheimer about owning a franchise in Las Vegas, amid growing speculation that the NHL is on the verge of proposing expansion to Las Vegas and K.C. A group led by Bruckheimer, an avid hockey fan, is the front-runner for the Las Vegas expansion and has been in talks with NHL officials for months, sources said....

Daly, asked to confirm or deny whether the NHL had discussions with Bruckheimer about owning an NHL team in Las Vegas, said in an e-mail, “Bruckheimer is one of many people we have spoken to about their desire to own a team in Vegas.” Daly added that “no decisions have been made” by the NHL BOG about expanding the league from 30 to 32 teams and that “there’s no ‘agreement’ with anyone” to own an expansion team. But he said, “There have been many expressions of interest by a number of individuals and a number of cities,” including Las Vegas and K.C., where AEG manages the city-owned Sprint Center, set to open in October. At the Stanley Cup Finals Game Four in Ottawa on Monday, there was a buzz that an announcement about the league considering expansion to Las Vegas and K.C. was imminent, hockey sources said. Asked about that, Daly wrote, “I don’t know if or when there might be an announcement. We will update the Board on the expressions of interest we have received.”"

Balsillie hasn't actually said he wants to move the team yet. Now it's blatantly obvious that he wants to take it to Hamilton, but certainly not confirmed.

Here's the deal: The Preds are in Nashville for at least the next 2 seasons. If they average less than 14,000 paid attendance per game during those 2 seasons, Balsillie can trigger an exit clause and move the team. If they meet the 14,000, then he is SOL (but on the flip-side that means he is having success with the team so he may not be all that upset).

If the fans rally to keep the team it won't be too terribly hard to meet that number, but if Balsillie sells off their best players or they just leave town on their own and he runs the team into the ground, it's going to be a problem. There's also the idea that not a lot of people are going to want to support a team knowing that in 2 years it may be gone.

The Preds were sold, but they'll play next year in Nashville. After that, no one knows.

^better answer

I'll be wearing my road Ducks jersey tonight. If Ottawa comes back, it'll be like D2. Except the Ducks are the bad guys in black.

Sens have got NOTHING in their own zone. Ducks need to stop being cute (toe drags and spin-o-ramas, omf) and pound the net.

If the Sens want a chance, Gerber needs to go in NOW.

Softies aside, something's gotta spark the defensemen to get pucks in the corners...Kunitz is beating them to loose pucks and he's injured.
