"there were twelve teases tonight, including a "White Rabbit" tease during HMM that I can only assume is the similar to the one from Friday night."

and the audience all singing along to day tripper made billy smile

AMAZING show...i took nothing but video clips, but unfortunately i think i deleted one with the all the teases in the 2nd set by accident we'll see when i download em later

when we first got into asheville we road by the peel to get a feel of the line situation before grabbing lunch, and as we turn the corner to ride behind it there's billy hanging out on the back entrance stairwell...my bf was all "holy shit!...play it cool" hahahaha i wish i had my camera so we could've snapped a shot, but we "played it cool" and just rode by grinning like a bunch of idiots

oh and i liked the drum circle...it could've been better, but i was booty shakin

ill give a review later but last night was definitely the better of the last 2 nights by far, the band was more into it, the setlist was great (he really stuck to like 3 acoustic songs), they came out rockin and never really stopped...

they did all the teases because the guys at the soundboard were having issues. we were leaning against the rail there and they were flipping a shit trying to figure out.

i did manage to get the setlist from the soundboard guy. i will post it later...the one that they were SUPPOSED to play, they skipped atleast 3 songs because of the tech problems (thirty-three, doomsday clock, and muzzle to name a few).

the drum circle from the town square replaced deerhunter last night apparently because billy had an issue with them or something, not really any details except what we were told...they showed up at 4pm to set up again, etc or whatever and billy was like go home.

overall, it was really good last night

What was the story behind it, if you don't mind sharing? Did it have anything to do with the giant drum circle that Asheville has downtown every Friday afternoon or something unrelated?

Zeitgeist is a funny album.

Am I the only one who finds "Pomp and Circumstances" extremely out of place?

ok i get the meaning of the drum circle thing now

and yeah pomp and circumstances is kinda out of place lol

overall though i really like the album. obviously i haven't heard any of the bonus tracks yet, but just from the standard album i think i'd rank it at #3 for them behind mellon collie and siamese dream. i like it a lot.

also i really like the song he wrote in asheville, "it's a song i sing" i think is the name.

just got back from one of the greatest weekends of my life

im still on a high from the awesomeness that was this weekend so i'll keep it short and sweet for now

friday night: really good (the acoustic songs were fine with me, i just dont like when he chose to play them)

saturday night: fucking amazing. even with the technical difficulties it was one of the best shows i've ever been to

so many awesome side stories to tell about the weekend/shows

i'll save those for later

the crowd around me, including myself, was getting really bored, almost antagonistic, with the drum circle about 20 minutes in. i'm still pissed that billy kicked deerhunter out or whatever.

^^I'd pay good money to see a Corgan/Cox fight, though. I wonder how they managed to piss him off, unless it was just the number of people in the crowd on Friday who didn't like Deerhunter (the comments of the girl behind me ranged from "omg, he's so creepy!" to "well they have no musical talent whatsoever!").

at the very least--when every song sounds the same, billy shouldn't have let the drum circle play for an entire hour.

I don't really like Deerhunter anyway, so I didn't care about not seeing them. And the idea of actually having the drum circle open after Billy talked about it on Wednesday was funny. That said, I agree that they didn't need to play for an hour.

^ nobody "knows" what happened between them, just that Billy told them not to play on Saturday

and this is my point from earlier, he might've just done it because most of you other people on Friday didn't like Deerhunter

i'm not at all trying to bash your taste or anything if you did, i'm just surprised. i didn't think anyone there was digging their performance lol. i mean, a starving man wearing a dress gave a blowjob to the microphone...

No, I don't hate them ("Spring Hall Convert" is a great song)
nor does spooky
and I don't think vb hated them after all the noise died down

I think they make more sense on their albums. In any case, I can't see a large percentage of the Pumpkins fanbase digging them, so whatever.

^ The only thing I could think of is that perhaps Billy didn't like his facetious arm-wavery when he said, "and next, the Smashing Pumpkins!"

Part of me feels it's utterly ridiculous to suggest that Billy could be so petty, but the other part wouldn't put it past him.

lol ok didn't know that. and yeah i'll definitely say that the songs toward the end of their set were better. i just didn't like a lot of the vocal effects he was using. they were cool in parts, but i think it was kind of overboard for most of the songs. i'm not familiar with the song you referenced, but if it was one of the last few they played then it was probably one of the ones i thought were better.

so i listened to the entire cd this morning, and what comes to my mind after just seeing most of these songs is i miss the keyboard (atleast its really quiet in the background on the recordings), i think it should be louder.

also, all these billy voices should go with their effects and echoes...put the girls backups in the recordings like the live versions.

i was also kinda hoping for a version of united states without all the making noise guitar stuff in the middle just to see what thatd sound like.

but yeah, all these weird things on US and starz with billy going whoo and wee and stuff is unnecessary

i listened to this album on my ipod and on CD in my car and in both places i didnt feel the mix was guitar heavy enough. I could always hear the guitar, but it never felt like the driving force, always kind of sounded a bit like it was in the background of the mix (ie cymbols drowned it out in some cases and other cases, other instruments).

this isnt always a problem for albums (ie some songs and albums arent designed to be guitar heavy from bands), but just listening to the riffs, a lot of them would sound so much better being brought forward to drive the song

Isn't it "major kids" ? I've seen lyric sites that say both, but I always thought "major kids" made more since, meaning that they're famous.

http://www.poprocks.com/articles/pavement.html

[Singer] Steve [Malkmus] was really talkative at the show, ripping on the Smashing Pumpkins and stuff. Somebody told me that that was about when you guys got passed up for Lollapalooza because of Billy Corgan. What was that all about?

We were up for Lollapalooza in 94 and Smashing Pumpkins said, "No, if Pavement does it, we're not doing it."

And that was all because of your song?

Yeah "Range Life" off of Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain. It's not very nice to them. But we got on the next year - a much cooler year.
