AIDS test

They give you aids (via cock) and see how well you handle the situation

This will give them an idea of how you handle stress in the workplace

Yeah, not the type of job that would require a physical. I'm doubtful about a drug test, but I'm clean and wouldn't have anything to worry about anyway.

I agree, I'm thinking I'm a finalist for sure.

my interview went great and they even offered

but...a few problems...no draw / 100% commission and no benefits ... benefits are on the table for next year with no guarantees so i had to decline at this time.

nice guys though who own that company

^ sorry to hear that Sayer. That is quite a few steps to go through for an interview. That is pretty low to only get an email for how involved the process was. It would be nice if employers kept their potential candidates more updated during the hiring process. It sucks sitting in the cold wondering what your chances are after an interview.

So how do benefits work if you quit? Am I only eligible for benefits if I get laid off?

(not going to or anything, just curious)

You lose your benefits if you quit. If you are laid off, you may qualify for extension under COBRA.

^which costs $texas. When I changed jobs last year and my benefits hadn't yet kicked in I looked into COBRA. It was more than 500 a month for me and the kid. I just got a blue cross plan.

COBRA basically says you can continue to get the same insurance that your employer was paying for, but now your employer isn't helping out with the cost.

You can continue the benefits through COBRA, yeah, but you won't be paying the same amount. You'll be paying the full cost of the benefits (including the portion of the bill that the employer used to pay...which is quite a bit), plus 2% additional for "administrative fees."

Honestly, companies providing these health benefits is not as good as it sounds. I think people would be better off receiving that extra money in their check, and they could choose to buy whatever they wanted with the extra money. Maybe then, people would be more health-conscious, since their rates would reflect their health, not the group plan rates. The fact that health benefits are subsidized (that is, taken out of your paycheck on a pre-tax basis) makes it even worse, because the government isn't receiving revenue for something that it normally would be. Another problem is that insurance is now used to cover "everything," not just emergencies. Those things are all contributing to skyrocketing healthcare prices.

If you quit or are fired then you can't receive unemployment, only if you are laid off (basically through no fault of your own)

So..let's say I apply for position X at company Y. I was doing some research the other day on a website called Spoke and I ran across another guy on there who holds position X at company Y.
Knowing how to formulate his email address, would it be detrimental for me to email this guy and ask him about his job duties? I figure he would be excited to know someone is interested in working with him, or if he's insecure, he might feel threatened. Not sure how to work this one.

Have you ever talked to this person prevoiusly? Honestly, could come off a little creepy if you weren't referred to him and he wasn't expecting to get an e-mail from you. He may mention to his boss "do you know who this is, why'd they reach out to me?" and then a snowball starts. Better to use your contacts and see if you know anyone there that can give you a good idea of the job details...

I'll be in this group as of 1/1/10. I'm contracting with Schering Plough through ClinForce. Schering Plough is in a merger with Merck which will be complete by the end of the year. We just got our notices that our contracts with SP will be up 12/31/2009. I'm hoping I can get something before then.

I got off of this list and had enough time to find a house and get ready to close... only to have the husband get laid off. Anyone have a need for an architectural intern or someone with construction administration/CAD experience in Raleigh?

We're mobile enough to move - but since I haven't even been permanent 3 months yet we want to make that one of our last options.

good luck with architecture right now - most firms have laid off 60+% of their staff compared to two years ago

Have a job..two of them actually. But neither is a "real" job that will go anywhere.

I have been trying to find a job, dont care what really as long as it is full time, in the south (currently living in WA) and have been busting my ass, emailing, calling, hittin up the networked connections, etc. Starting to get real discouraged.

Ive been seriously looking for about 5 months now. Yes, im lucky that I have some type of employment. I just really need to be back in the south. I fully plan to relocate myself, not looking for relocation from potential employer.

Well off the list after a little over 7 months. My advice: apply to everything you see that interest you because the more you put out there the greater your chances are of getting a call back. The job I applied for that worked seemed a little obscure but it turned out to be perfect for my career. Also, get done anything and everything you have wanted to like yardwork, cleaning, moving or studying for any kind of test or certification you may want to obtain. Good luck to all.

Yeah I work at the Franklin Mill. It's been weird going to work with no purpose for right now really when all of my work was to make process changes to save money. Since everything was announced there really have been few problems at the mill, guess all the changes people had been making were the reason, who knows? That or no one wants to say anything just because of fear of losing their job.

I'm thinking of going back to school and getting my PhD in ChemE and just avoid the real world for a few more years. It's depressing when looking for openings and so many are jobs that are PhD related since no one really has one. Might as well just suck it up now and do it when I have no attachments to any areas.

Just got back from my first interview since graduation with KFDX in Wichita Falls, TX for their AM/Noon Meteorologist. This was after 6 months, 60 resumes, 3 internships, and 2 different versions of a resume tape. I have a phoner with a station in Pittsburg, KS on the way back from Nashville in the morning. Hopefully I am employed and forecasting in Texoma this coming Monday.

Second and last guy interviews later this week.

^^Thanks! I'm pretty excited. It's a non-illegal immigrant employing establishment, meaning everyone in the kitchen will speak english as a first language which will be cool. Half the chefs are in culinary school, and the head chef will be teaching us stuff before every shift.

Can't wait to start.

From what I gather from all of the hoopla going on they are for sure dismantling the paper machines. Franklin is not allowed to make paper again from what I understand. They are leaving the pulping process and the power house things untouched with an "invisible fence" dividing them from the paper machines. They are leaving this here for the possibility of some investor coming in and trying to get the green fuel tax I suppose.

Based off rumor mill hearings, I think the recovery boilers have to be in an ability to run state to keep the tax credit. I have heard the boilers had to be running 3 years after the credit ends to keep the money, but I bet it's probably an ability to run mode instead of just running. This in my opinion explains the "invisible fence" and why the whole thing isn't getting completely dismantled.

I agree this town is in trouble, but they refuse to accept it. The local newspaper basically sad that they think it will only increase Franklin's unemployment at worst case scenario to 28%, but I think everything is so dependent on the mill to be running that it will be much higher outside of people getting jobs away from Franklin and in the 7 Cities area, but what do I know? It will be very interesting to see what happens.

On a side note, I have an interview this week with a company in RTP, hoping I get it so I can leave Franklin and come back to the greater Raleigh area.
