no no it's a fine question. i've checked numerous times to make sure it didn't go to one of her other accounts, but the address shows her active gmail account. it has to be some sort of outgoing setup issue

ohhh... just remembered that I had this same issue from the iPhone. I fixed it by changing the smtp server. I think I even changed it to gmail's.... I forget. Might not have even been smtp but I think it was.

here's the thing- i am an absolute rube when it comes to setting up email. i have no idea (without googling) what smtp is. i figured these things (droids) should sing with gmail accounts; why shouldn't default setup work?

What kind of attachment was it? I've found that the Droid (probably the native apps on all Android devices) is ridiculously picky about what kinds of files it will download and upload.

it was a simple .jpg. i had a pic of her she wanted as an icon and i hadn't set up bluetooth just yet. but once that didn't send, i noticed no emails were going.

i just tried refreshing some settings. i went into email and manually added the imap info, etc. we'll see how it goes

I thought you said you were sending it from Gmail to Gmail, though. The Email app is for connecting to an Exchange server.

arggh

so that wouldn't work either then? i figured if gmail to gmail wasn't working, maybe to needed to reroute around it. there's no settings within the gmail app that i could see.

Oh, gotcha. I was confused.

Okay, so you're able to send and receive messages through Gmail normally, right? On your phone, like. It's just messages with attachments that are giving you trouble, right?

yes- gmails work from my phone to anything work. i just emailed my work account: sent both attachment and non-attachment. got both fine.

it's ANY (attachment or no) gmail from my phone to my wife. i swear if she's got some weird setting on her end, she's gonna get popped...

update to my email situation

finally got my wife to sit down and show me her gmail account on the laptop. i had her search for my name. the results pulled up all the emails i had sent. but the curious part was that they weren't in a folder, like spam or inbox. then i had her go to filters and sure enough, there i was. she had something like "Matches: from:'nothing22', Do this: Skip Inbox". the best part there was no second part, like skip inbox and apply label; it was just skip inbox. so my emails were just out in some void floating around within gmail, viewable only by search. i asked if she did this intentionally and she swore she didn't.

thanks for all your ideas

Anyone using Google Voice know how to make the transcripts show up more? I notice rarely does it pick up the text.. if I listen to the message shortly after it can provide the text, but whats the point then if you have already listened to the message.

Any ideas on how to make GV better about showing the text?

Tell the people calling you to stop mumbling? With the exception of people with thick southern accents, or people that mumble, mine does just fine.

I've noticed this weird flying-to-the-top behavior too. I hope it's a software issue, and not a hardware glitch.

And another really irritating thing is that in the calendar, I almost always have the agenda view up, if I create a "new event" it has a random day as the default date. And considering I don't always know exactly what today's date is, I have to dig through the calendar to find out, then go back to the new event. What should be a 1 press process (and was on the BB), is an 8 or 10 button press process. Very amateur, Google.

I would be more inclined to let little things like this slide for a revision 1, but they need to do a better job for usability, when they are pushing past 2.0 releases.

I still wouldn't trade this back for the blackberry though.

I came across this a pp just now, it seems pretty neat. I haven’t had a chance to try it in “the wild” yet, but it seems promising.

A few apps I would recommend:

AdAware (ROOTED phones only) - blocks all the ads... makes apps load faster too it seems because of it.

Touiteur - best twitter app in my opinion

Gesture Search - I have about 150 apps... this makes things a LOT easier than the app drawer.

Auto Memory Manager (ROOTED only) - not sure if needed, but it seems to help

Hoccer - no clue how it works, but being able to send files this easy is crazy

iTriage - I d/loaded more to inquire... I have used it a LOT more than I thought I would. Great way to look up symptoms and treatment for shit.

NPR - I stream NPR all day, love it.

SetCPU (rooted only)

Root Explorer - (rooted only) yeap, even the data folder can be assessed.

Swype - really hated the idea of it... but I'll be damn, it is spooky how accurate this keyboard is. its out there, google for it.

Also, all signs are pointing to the HTC Incredible being sold by Verizon/Best Buy on April 29th. Pretty awesome.

Swype is freaking awesome, I still have to kick the habit of waiting in between words to see if the spelling's correct before I swype the next word.

Saw the commercial for this earlier, pretty awesome:

Yea I tried that as well...i thought maybe it was just having problems with 2.1 but I didn't see anybody else having any problems when I searched online. Oh well, I'll try reinstalling or something. Seems like it would be really useful if I could get it to work.

Could someone please share some ballpark Verizon monthly figures and configurations with me? The one-time cost of the phone I can deal with, but having to almost double my phone bill ($50 unlimited minutes, no data) is a bit hard to swallow. I know I will want unlimited data, but everything else is up in the air.

you can set up the plans on their website. The cheapest plan you can get is 450min for 39.99 + 29.99 for unlimited data. So that's ~$70 without texting, insurance, taxes and fees. Unlimited texting is $20 more. Unlimited minutes is 69.99 so for unlimited minutes/data it'd be $100.

Axelay... consider T Mobile. It is MUCH cheaper and will soon have the fastest network. People complain about the network (though I have never, ever, had a problem) and they are constantly voted best customer service (if that even matters).

Hmm.. never thought to have someone text my GV number, I thought it required some special process to get it working correctly. Cool.

Of course, for $119 my wife and I both have unlimited data and text (1500 minutes) with T Mobile so I guess using GV for text is not needed at all, cool you can do it though.

Sprint's 4G is blazing on their data cards but unfortunately their coverage is fairly limited. It also looks like the Evo may have an increased cost data plan.

looks like the link got pulled. Here's the image

Only problem with the HTC Incredible is the Sense UI.

Yes, it looks pretty but that basically means you are adding months of waiting the next time there is an update. Phones like the Nexus One will ALWAYS be first to get the latest and greatest OS.

Of course, if you root your phones.... that may be less of an issue.

I am a BIG fan of the EVO and love that Raleigh is 4G already.

yeah, there are bound to be leaks. There's already a 2.1 leak with the new SenseIU floating around for the Eris. After trying the Desire port on the Droid, I definitely prefer Sense over stock android. Everything just flows smoother and looks better.
