Why stop at them? Why not get Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and the Chicago Bears?

^^I agree with Hoops. The Bears sound like a reasonable option. We should not be hesitant to keep them on the table just because they are in Chicago. Peppers is a good basketball player too, even though he is a product of UNCheat.

I'd say it's certain.
You know Swofford couldn't care less about Greensboro.
Add Texas and we'll probably be forced to play the tourney in Houston or Dallas once every 5 years. 9/19/2011 12:19:10 PM |

Notre Dame wont come to the ACC for football reasons alone. No way the ACC would allow ND to come for basketball only and screw up our football numbers. After all this is being driven purely by college football, basketball (and all other sports) are just along for the ride
Now if Notre Dame wanted to bring all of their sports to the ACC, then that would be a HUGE coup for our conference. In the end though, I think ND will wind up in the Big 10
I could see us going after Cincinnati or Rutgers

Notre Dame wont come to the ACC because of their independent football status. The only way the ACC would allow them to join would be if they threw that away and brought all sports to the ACC (which isnt likely to happen)
LOL, the south central would be the NFC West of the ACC

Adding anyone other than Texas, Penn St, or ND will be an absolute mistake. We have too many mediocre, mid-market football teams as it is. We don't need another one.
Also, no need to add another Big East team. We already took the best of what they have.

Navy attracts a larger audience than any other school in the ACC. While their football is boring, their ratings boost would be huge for our next TV contract, which is the point of the expansion.

God, Rivals sucks.
Quote : | "So, the first official dominoes to fall in this reckless race to "super conferences" come thanks to ... the ACC?!?!
It's true: While Texas A&M isn't officially a member of the SEC just yet and while rumors continue to swirl that Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech are days away from joining the Pac-12, the ACC announced Sunday morning that Pittsburgh and Syracuse officially are members of what now is a 14-team league. Why hasn't NCAA president Mark Emmert speaking out against actions that could irrevocably change his organization? It's certainly interesting, isn't it, that a day after the ACC laid another egg in its quest to be nationally relevant again in football, the league added Pitt and Syracuse - as if that's going to help the league turn around the perception that it can't hang with the big boys in football. " |
Clearly, he's referring to the FSU game. I hate this way of thinking, that ONE team in ONE game can suddenly propel the conference into the upper echelon of eliteness overnight. Because hanging with the #1 team into the 4th quarter without your starting QB doesn't mean anything. And because ending the defending champions 17-game winning streak doesn't mean shit. And because dropping Ohio State out of the AP top 25 for the first time in forever doesn't mean anything. And because setting the single-game FBS rushing avg record doesn't mean anything. Fucking stupid.
Quote : | "Are you kidding me: Pitt and Syracuse? What, Connecticut and Rutgers didn't want to join? (Actually, in a few days, they may, too. And won't that add more fuel to the "The ACC can't really play football" fire.)
The whole idea of the "super conferences" evidently is to squeeze every available penny from the networks when it comes to TV contracts. How in the world does adding Pitt and Syracuse increase the value of a football deal? (Basketball is a different story, though - again - this never has been about anything but football.)
I still think the move to four 16-team "super conferences" will kill college sports as we know it. You would think someone would step up and say, "Wait a minute. Have we really thought this through?" But because they think there is one more buck out there to be made, the commissioners are in a sort of feeding frenzy.
In a statement she released Sunday morning, UConn president Susan Herbst said she hoped that the realignment issue was settled soon so that universities "can change the national focus away from profiteering and back to student-athletes, where it belongs." " |

I do agree about this all happening really fast. Syracuse leaving the Big East for the ACC is a pretty big deal to me, Syracuse basketball is the benchmark of the Big East in my mind and having the Big East tourney in MSG makes that conference tournament the best. Maybe I'm too nostalgic, but its gonna be hard for me to think of Syracuse as an ACC school.
and this is coming from a total outsider with no stake in the Big East, I wonder how their students are taking it. 9/19/2011 2:19:59 PM |

HOOPS is on a REDEMPTION tour
Are all these people that keep posting teams like Army or Navy must just be looking for east coast teams that are 3 *s or better on NCAA College Football 2012 and throwing them out there.
- The service academies, regardless of team style or football ratings, don't match up well with a conference that has as many scholarship players as we have. They're better off picking their competitors and TV contracts themselves and they know it.
- Notre Dame will do everything possible to stay independent and keep their TV money. The only way they could boost earnings would be to go Big 10.
- WVU DOES NOT MEET OUR ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
Hope that clears things up.9/19/2011 2:45:41 PM |
