meh, unlike most people on here I dont take pleasure in the misery of others. Plus my second favorite team got beat, its not like we beat someone I hate like UGA or Florida. They played really good, especially in areas that I was worried about, and I just cant fathom how the offense would be if Da'Rick wasnt a retard.
holy shit, I did just see the replay of CP's run, jesus hes fast

i'm not trying to be a hater or anything, but i'm just not seeing how we can win 5+ ACC games this season. you think we're better than Clemson and FSU??" |
Why are people happy with a shitty program? Its not like we should be good or anything but that doesn't mean we should be happy with 8-5 as our peak. This is the 3rd of the 3 peak years for the TOB era and the next few years are going to be much rougher. You can't have peak years like this. He's been here too long for a bowl game to be enough to satisfy.
Its early in the season and part of this loss was our shittyness but part of the loss is just the fact that the sec is worlds better than the acc. The mid-level sec teams are just as good as the top acc teams. This is what fsu and clemson will taste like and we have time to get better before the fsu game.
Our season isn't over but tonight was not a good sign. We have a chance but holy shit everything has regressed. We are back to having nothing. Even the things we thought we had like secondary, qb, and kicker are shitty at this point.
Does anyone see ever finishing higher than 3rd in the fucking acc atlantic after this year? not with TOB. Time to start thinking long and hard about that.

Glennon looked fine overall. At least 2 of the interceptions were toward the end of the game when we were trying to get the ball down field a lot more and he was forcing a lot of throws....
During the first half when he was a lot more cool and collected, he was picking apart their secondary.
I'm not worried. There are a lot of games left. 9/1/2012 8:03:58 AM |

If you are evaluating TOB's records, you need to deduct one win from each of the past few seasons we played 2 IAA opponents.7-5 has been thee minimum record needed for bowl eligibility. Last season we played two IAA opponents plus Central Michigan, which might as well be one, so 8-5 would actually be an improvement... 9/1/2012 9:16:29 AM |

can't be optimistic after watching our defense do the same things that have infuriated me for the last five years: give up seemingly every third down, miss tackles, play soft coverage, and give up a ton of points.
people talking shit about glennon, but the defense did nothing to help him. the offense was looking good until we were two scores down. granted we were in a position at the start of the second half to score and tie or be down by one. but i still think this is gonna be another season where if we don't score every possession we're fucked because the other team will never have to punt. 9/1/2012 3:23:24 PM |

Hai guise! Just checking in. I was at the game last night and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I was surprised how many of you wolf packers made the trip down. I estimate that 30% to 35% of the crowd was NC State fans. However, the red seats at the Georgia Dome created the illusion of a full force 38% NCSU crowd.
Also, it would've been really interesting to see how the game turned out if Rogers or Amerson had shown up. Just a thought.
Good luck the rest of the season and Go Pack/Vols! 9/1/2012 5:04:58 PM |

It’s true Tennessee head coach Derek Dooley has a number of returning starters to work with (18), however few of them actually excelled last season, the one who did is has been booted from the team (Da’Rick Rogers), and it’s not like a lot of their position coaches returned with them.
So for a game one, against a good opponent on a neutral field, this Tennessee Volunteer team executed quite well; certainly better than anyone on Rocky Top had a right to hope for.
Credit need be shared among many, but a healthy portion of it should find its way to new defensive coordinator Sal Sunseri. On the surface, his unit appeared to give up a lot of yards (407), but look a little closer… It only surrendered seven points and 154 yards after halftime – and a full third of those yards came on NC State’s final drive, with the game out of reach.
Sunseri’s defense was by no means perfect, but it played with authority down the stretch and snatched four interceptions from the otherwise talented Mike Glennon – who had a total of 12 in 13 games last year.
That’s a welcome sight given Tennessee finished ninth in the conference in turnover margin in 2012.
Speaking of sight, a lot of critical eyes were focused on the beleaguered Vols offensive line, most of whom have played together – if poorly – for quite some time (106 career starts). Unlike in games past, this unit delivered nicely against the Wolf Pack. Quarterback Tyler Bray had ample time to work through his progressions all night, and for the most part stayed upright. Meanwhile, the unit opened holes big enough to park a trailer in. On the night, the Vols ran for 197 yards.
To truly grasp the significance of this, Tennessee didn’t run for more than 150 yards even one time all of last season, which included games of -9 net rushing yards vs. Florida (on 21 carries) and an embarrassing -21 net yards to Georgia (on 23 carries).
At the end of the first quarter the Vols scored 16 points in the span of 38 seconds, and from that moment on rarely looked like they were not in control of this game. Newcomer Cordarrelle Patterson’s two touchdowns, one of them on a nifty 84 yard run, had a lot of folks in Knoxville saying “Da’Rick who???”
It’s all intertwined, but perhaps most important to the offensive explosion was the stellar play of Vols quarterback Tyler Bray. The 6-6, 225 pound Bray rarely looked flustered, worked through his progressions with a calm efficiency, and thus had the following impressive stat line to show for his work: 27/41, 333 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions.
Bray has now passed for 300+ yards in more than half of 13 starts (seven) – and 250 yards or more in 10 of 13.
Bray had the full arsenal going in Atlanta: great touch, accuracy, and good zip on the ball when needed. He completed 9-of-9 third down plays in the second half (converting first downs on six of those). In fact, Tennessee chose to run on third down just once in the second half, at the very end of the game.
With relative ease, the junior from Kingsburg, California seemed able to throw a 50 yard bomb and hit a dime. A dime running a 4.5 40.
Yes, Bray looked like a cold-blooded killer Friday night" |

yup. didn't really expect to win this game, but I am so sick of seeing prevent defense all damn day with morale crushing 3rd down conversions because we are playing 10 yds off the WRs. That style of defense is infuriating to watch and it has been happening for the last 6 years. Nate Irving's ridiculous athleticism and motor are the only things that have ever made our defense under ToB even remotely watchable.

At this point, I'd rather take my chances. Our team defense has finished in the bottom half of the ACC every year that ToB has been here in team defense including the first three stellar seasons (07-09) where we finished last or second to last in the ACC. Meanwhile our offense has been above average to occasionally stellar as he has been here longer, but it has been wasted.
Everyone points to recruiting, but our average recruiting hasn't produced terrible results on the offensive end. On the other hand, our gameplans on the defensive end basically makes it impossible to succeed year after year but we still keep doing the same thing. I still can't get that game out of my head from a couple years ago where we made the Duke QB look like a fucking Heisman candidate as he marched down the field hitting short slants and outs all day.

I've seen several game analyses like this and I know the game wasn't really in question in the 4th quarter (I still had hope when we got the ball down 11 with 10 minutes to go) but was it really that bad? Were we not winning briefly before the worst 5 consecutive plays I've ever seen? Did we not play a great 2nd quarter and had momentum going into the half down a single possession (and getting ball first)?9/3/2012 6:12:28 PM |

I thought the first half was pretty even. We played well, moved the ball fairly decent, and came up with some good defensive plays. They made more big plays and we had more turnovers. We went in down one score and were getting the ball at the start of the 2nd. That's pretty much even, slight edge to Tennessee.
They dominated the 2nd half. We had our chances, but fucked them up. The game was in doubt for them up until the 4th quarter, but they won both sides of the ball rather convincingly in the 2nd half and we kept fucking up. 9/3/2012 6:42:17 PM |
