it's happened before with bowl games, for example Army at 5 wins. they have a guaranteed tie to the Military Bowl or Armed Forces Bowl or something, so they make a side deal with some Sun Belt/shitty team that if Army doesn't get to 6 wins, they get the bowl. if Army gets to 6 wins, they go. I remember it happening one year, but I'm too lazy to look it up.

^I got lucky as hell in 2011. Some guy couldn't go and sold his tickets on ebay for about $15 over face value. I bought them and went. Stub Hub is a total rip off. Most people put their Army vs Navy tickets on there for over $400 for upper deck seats.

Why do some of hhe bowls suddenly have 2 or 3 names

The good year cotton bowl classic?

And how did pitt get selected to a January bowl?

1. Sponsorships

2. The strength of bowls doesn't increase from the first bowl through the last (not including NC/playoff). It hasn't been like that for awhile. I mean there are like 40 bowl games since any mediocre team gets rewarded with one. Too much logistical trouble to have some kind of quality / date correlation anymore.

and it works. here's the comprehensive list of CFB games that got a higher rating than Army-Navy (4.5) in 2014:

SEC Championship Game
ACC Championship Game
Auburn/Alabama
Michigan/Ohio State
Mississippi St./Alabama
FSU/Miami
Alabama/LSU
Notre Dame/FSU
Florida/Alabama

i recommend checking out scout and rivals boards for tickets if you don't want to spend more than face

You could swap it out with hundreds of games and get the same result. Nothing else on tv that day. Not hard to figure out. Lets see how it would fair on rivalry weekend with all the big boys.

you also have to factor in the fact that in a war culture many people tune in just to get a chance to see the men in uniform. obviously thats not the game drawing viewers. the game is shit and the marches aren't in themselves unless you respect the guys for what they represent beyond what is actually happening on the field. its more of a "merica fuck yeah" kind of crowd.

i still stand by the fact that most of its viewers would prefer to watch other games.

The Military Industrial Complex has always had a far reaching economic effect on the country, specifically as it pertains to military rivalry within athletic competition. It is pretty clear that the popularity of this game is driven by a conservative base, eager to create a guise of worldwide superiority by using our uniformed men to support what can only be described as a "celebration of football superiority." This is obviously Reaganomics at it's best, and one can only assume that the "culture of war" which stems back Cold War rhetoric stemming from disagreements during the Yalta and Potsdam Conferences, how to go about dividing Germany, and the Berlin Airlift are contributing factors to a single event that captures the attention of the country at a time when oil prices continue to be driven down as OPEC refuses to budge on their oil production, one might say playing a "game of chicken" with North America, to see who will balk first, the US oil production sector also receiving pressure from the environmental left wing for practices of fracking, or the Russians who accounted for oil prices in the $80-100 range when calculating their yearly budgets, leaving them in an economic recession. One must ask if we are entering a second Cold War, where the Kremlin appears to be returning to ideals that once drove our world to the brink of destruction, or is it just an attempt at "chest-thumping" by a leader feeling left out of world politics. While China has also seen a recent recession as well, the question remains will the emerging strength of the US dollar ultimately hurt or help global economics or will China's emerging middle class feel the squeeze resulting in a change of social, political, and economic policies. With the opening of relations between the US and Cuba, this could also mean a new partnership that allows for many years of embargoes, and harsh commentary between two nations to lessen and usher in a new era of cooperation. One must ask is Obama bending to a tyrant or simply opening up a door and moving past unfounded communist fears that never really amounted to anything substantial in world politics, which has shown that communism simply isn't a threat to the US way of life.

That or people just really like to watch football.

What will it take to end the perception that the acc is a shitty conference. Weve won bog early season games rivalry games bcs bowls and the lack of respect still exists across the board.

Gotta have the middle teams start whooping SEC ass. GT, NCSU, MIAMI, etc have to beat good SEC teams. Otherwise, people are just gonna think it's FSU, CLEM and a bunch of mediocre teams. Remember that ESPN has an SEC network now. They're gonna be biased.

Watching the Sun Bowl and at one point they said Duke last won a bowl game in 1961 Looking back through the records, since then we have gone to 27 bowl games having won 15 of them, losing 11, and tying 1, which was the 1974 Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl against Houston, 31-31.

doesn't come with the same notoriety as knocking off the big bad SEC. I do find it funny that anytime an ACC team knocks off a good team, there is some sort of stigma attached to it though. Like, 'Oh, it was a bowl game that the SEC/ranked team didn't care to be in" or there were injuries, etc, etc, etc.

^ That's probably because we're viewed at the weakest P5 conference. And to be fair about that, the Big East had a similar SRS (includes strength of schedule and margin of victory) for OOC opponents to the ACC before everyone left.

Sucks to be any of the teams playing bowls Jan 2-4. After the playoff games on Thursday, there's no way they will get the same kind of interest nationally. Of those 6 games, only one features ranked teams.
