Put him on TTish or AQish and just floated the flop, gave me the wheel gutter and was pretty much priced to call the turn (although floating against an OP and floating w/o betting the turn doesnt make much sense). Thats also my cash game mentality and I only play tournies when I've got other things to do at the same time, so that part of my game can admittedly use a lot of work

Every table waits for all the other tables to finish each hand when you get to the bubble to prevent short stacks from stalling.

Is this how it is for most of these big MTTs? A lot of folding? I've been watching for 10-15 minutes and I figured I would have seen more flops than this. Everyone just trying to get to the next cash level or something?

That helped, what did you have?

Fuck. It's play money, so I know it's worthless, but as I build my skill up (mostly for my local cash game), I take it seriously.

I grab a medium level SitnGo and am dealt KQ clubs first hand. Flop is xAJ clubs. I call station a 120 bet and another club pops out for the nut flush. I get mildly greedy, wanting to take this whole guys stack. Another J pops out...guy doesn't go all in on me, I think...nooooooo....all in him, and he flips AJ for the full house.

Question: Anyone having success in tournaments or sit-n-go's using a super aggressive approach (ala Gus Hansen and Daniel Negreanu)? I find that one of biggest problems in tournaments is that I get bored easily when folding a lot. It often has led to me getting too aggressive and making dumbassed plays that donk off huge chunks of my chips. Thought that by playing more hands, and doing so as part of a coherent strategy, I could better keep that from happening. It'd also give me more opportunities to make good reads after the flop, which is one of my strengths... well usually it is anyway

Thoughts?

I wouldn't recommend trying to emulate a style like that when its difficult to understand their whole thought process and knowledge of the game... With that said, if patience is an issue for you, I wouldn't recommend playing tournaments and just stick to cash games (at least a couple tables at a time), or playing multiple sngs at a time. First few levels of any tourny should always be played very tight, hard to avoid "boring" play without running hot (theres always something to do though even if you're folding nearly every hand, like paying attention to everyone else's play).

^pretty much what he said

I usually play super tight through the early stages of SNG's, only looking for a good spot to double up if I come into a pot. If I'm only playing 1 SNG, sometimes I'll play a couple cash tables on the side to keep from getting bored. You really have to go with the flow of your table, if everyone's playing loose then play tight, if everyone's playing tight then loosen up a bit. That usually happens when you get close to the bubble. I usually widen my range of raisable hands at that time since a lot of people try to fold their way into the money. If I'm chip leader sometimes I try to keep the short stack alive while I steal blinds from the other players.

General strategy on SNGs:

Play tight as balls early - open JJ+, AQ+, and that's about it until 75/150 or so
Loose late - take the scared monies

^^yeah, I know it sounds crazy, but I'll explain...

I usually only do this if the shortstack is immediately to my left. You might be able to steal a few blinds from him, but eventually he's going to have a hand and play back at you, so you're either going to have to fold and lose 3 BB's (2.5 for David, lol) or call with a more than likely dominated hand. Either way you're going to probably wash out most of your gains from punishing him earlier.

Don't get me wrong, I gladly punish the short stacks from certain positions where it doesn't quite look like a blantant steal. But when they're right next to you and the other 2 players have decent chip stacks, I usually give them a walk unless I have a good hand. Instead, I steal from the other 2 players, because they will fold almost anything preflop (unless they are really stubborn) until the short stack goes out on the bubble.

I am by no means a big Scott Fischmann fanboy, but I first heard about doing this from his book 'Online Ace,' and it's worked pretty well for me in 9 to 45 man SNG's

Gotcha.

Does anyone have any experience w/ staking? Someone from 2p2 offered to stake me today. Basically what they were wanting to do was double my current bankroll, which I want, because I want to take some shots at higher level MTTs that I don't currently feel comfortable with using my roll. They will take 55% of net profit.

I haven't been staked before, but I really like the idea of not having to invest my own money as heavily. I take money off all the time to enjoy the college life, so I never have the opportunity to build a huge roll. Although I think i'll hate it when I final table a larger MTT and have to ship of 55% of my winnings. Anyone have any thoughts or experiences?

Ehh? You feel confident you're going to final a large table with an investor, and not like giving away half the winnings....ummm...why not stake yourself?

On an unrelated note, I really hate that I can't chat after going bust on a table on Poker Stars on either good or bad beats.

simple.

no risk of losing anything, with a chance of making something.

I would gladly let someone stake me.

I do it all the time. I just want to do it at higher limits with less risk. When I win big now I generally take it off, if I win a lot more at higher limits staked I won't necessarily have to do that.

If the short stack (<=10BBs) pushes, you almost certainly have pot odds to call after putting in 3 bbs. Maybe I'd play it differently if it was the bubble but that's pretty much always an insta call for me.
