15 points and 8 rebounds a game for a basketball academy in the Canary Islands.

I'm sure he was playing against some stiff competition.

It's way too late for that. Someone might glance over a tape and give an impression, but he won't be rated against other players in his class. Even if he was, there wouldn't be any significant increase and class rankings don't really matter this late in the game. Once the freshmen hit campus, it's just about results.

even if he was ranked a top50 player, i still don't think it'd be enough to get our 2011 class in the top25. 2012 is where it's at.

I think Hodge works better as a friend to the program.

What he could say, do and most importantly tweet would be severely limited if he worked with the team in any official capacity.

True, but he may want to start his career, and start getting paid for kissing recruit's asses. IBTHEALREADYISGETTINGPAID.

My tell is that I'll generally avoid profanity when I'm trying to make a valid point.

And I'm completely serious that I think Hodge isn't a good fit for the staff right now. Maybe in a few years when he matures a bit, but he still seems too buddy buddy with players at this point that I'm not sure he'd be able to have any sense of control over them.

I'd just be worried he would tweet some CJ Leslie "anti-gay" type shit (or worse) and bring on some bad publicity to the team.

I love Hodge, but that guy is unpredictable.

I'd like him to be on our staff just so he can inject some emotion and intensity into some of our players

Hodge is 27, close to most of us. I wouldn't want most of you in positions of authority, and he's no different.

well he has been in the league, was selected in the first round of the draft and played in the NCAA tourney. So he's got plenty of good experiences that he can teach the players, and since he's young, he can relate to them.

I'm not saying I want him on our staff, but I'm not saying I dont want him on it either.

Head of the summer camp ... that's what he needs to be "on staff" to do.

Just merge his camp into the NCSU bball camp

He's in the perfect position now. Talk to the players, joke around, play ball with them, then step aside and let the real coaches run the practices and game prep.

I love Julius Hodge, but less than two years ago he was kicked out of a game for stomping on the court and generally acting like a spoiled whine baby brat. He's far from being ready to lead anyone.

Brad Stevens was the assistant coach at Butler at 24 and head coach when he was 30.

Because comparing a back to back National Runner Up coach to someone who regularly tweets in lol speak is a valid comparison.

The point was age not limiting coaching ability.

Maturity is a big part of it too, but that was not the point.

Brad Stevens is an outlier. The age argument holds true for the vast majority of the population and I stand by it.

^ I wonder if K dropped any of his frequent in game F bombs during the conversation?

Also SF is dead on correct about Hodge and the team. The role he serves now is gold and cannot be replaced. Hiring him on staff would be a mistake. One day though, I see him as a top flight recruiter somewhere.

[Edited on May 19, 2011 at 12:59 PM. Reason : V Yeah I am sure Hodge wants a job, but it would be a mistake for Gott to hire him.]

"16. May 16: The first recruit to commit to Mark Gottfried at N.C. State is a huge one: Five-star shooting guard Torian Graham, the No. 25 overall player in the Class of 2012. He passed on Florida State and Kentucky, and is the second-highest rated recruit committed to any ACC school (after Duke-bound Rasheed Sulaimon) from that class.
Reverberations: N.C. State fans have already started to feel better about the Gottfried hire, which initially drew a tepid reaction. Graham believes the Wolfpack can finish with a loaded 2012 class, and has taken it upon himself to start recruiting other elite, in-state players -- the primary target being Rodney Purvis, who could join him in a backcourt that would rival anything at Duke or North Carolina.

^^^ I took it the same way. I'd prob say the same if I talked to K, also.

I still feel pretty good about Purvis. He just talked to K on the phone.

Yall know how this goes: It's probably best to just assume that Purvis probably won't come here. Then if he decides on the Wolfpack... holy shit!!!

But yeah, so what if he talked to K on the phone and tweeted about it? Big deal.

lol who the fuck cares?

when did using swear words become so taboo ? did i miss a memo ?

and by that i mean .... so taboo to the point where a recruit (ie kid) would turn down Duke because coach has a potty mouth.

a guy i went to HS with was a walk-on for Duke's bball team

he said the generally reserved coach you see on the sideline during games transforms into a maniacal curse monger during practice, to the point where he breaks you down. must be the Army influence.

i guess it matters because some players can't handle that
