Am I the only one who is tired of Wake Island? They have played that shit out fast. It sucked on the rerelease for BFV (of course, that's thanks to the netcode mostly). Its like they want to make new maps, but don't have an original bone in their body.

You'd think...

I've played too many games where the patches are fairly worthless and implement nothing that the community wanted.

That said, I'm not going to play anymore until the patch.

"Supply Drop Icons - Supply drops now appear on the main map and within the 3D Map. Find that elusive supply drop much, much quicker!
Points for Destroying Command Objects - players now receive points for destroying the commander's toys. Special Forces players rejoice!

Commander scoring - No more TKs from Artillery!
Vehicle tweaks - No more accidental kills from bumping a friend with your tank (try to avoid hitting him at speed though) and no more struggling uphill in an APC. Also no more improper TK allocation from vehicle explosions."

Man, I am thrilled about each of these. I think there are an awful lot of commanders who honestly don't know to zoom in on the map before selecting a spot for a supply drop and thus the drop winds up in some really hard-to-find location. I'm also glad that Special Forces finally get some points for blowing up assets - I do so enjoy playing sapper.

Welllllllllllll, some of us never played BF1942, so I guess I'm in the minority of people who are looking forward to seeing this.

Wait till Desert Conflict mod comes out for BF2

Anyone who has been playing BF1942 remembers when the Desert Combat mod came out, and there were ten times more DC servers running than for regular BF1942. I can't wait till it comes out. No more of this ranked server nonsense. Along with Forgotten Hope and some of the other WW2 mods, like Battlegroup 42.

Playing the BF should always be about playing with friends and having a good time, not trying to accumulate stats and unlocks.

Dice did a Wake Island port to BFV along with another BF1942 map, I think it was Iwo Jima. I used to enjoy playing those maps. I like the balance of the WWII weapons and the airplanes are in BF1942 are awesome. I love how slow they fly, you can get some awesome strafing runs with them that is harder to do with the jets in BF2.

I never really dug BFV. Other than using it to play Point of Existance (PoE) I kept playing DC.

That's funny because a guy I used to play CS:S with is in another clan now and wants me to join their CAL team for next season. I'm not going to though because they have 3 nights of practice / week plus matches. I just don't have time for that anymore.

Plus my old Tribes 2 clan is starting to play Tribes 2 again, so I'm going to start that back up soon...

So is AGB competitive in BF2 or just a group that likes to pub together? I went to the web site and there are like 12098875098 members on the forums, looks like a big clan.

cant tell you how much it pissed me off about the mention of the missiles....

can't tell you how much it irks me that people just "hate" pilots... because you know what, you'd fucking love me to death if I were on your team.

The AA emplacements, as they are now (pre 1.03) are fine, because all they really need to do is make the tone lock indicator go off so the pilots are more worried about avoiding AA than killing things on the ground.

Then again, I've always said that the best anti-air defense is the enemy pilot in the air trying to chase me down. But does anyone listen? NO. They just whine and complain until the developer says "gee we'd better fix it so we don't piss off these people that bought our game."

Learn to cope people.

I'm thinking that it has to do with air-to-air missle accuracy and not surface-to-air. At least that what I was hoping when I read it.

I'd just like to see the GLA not break off when a plane does a 5 degree turn as if suddenly the heat signature is zero

also, I'm pretty sure that there is a heat differential on the front of the intakes as well as the exhaust. it would be nice to see one or two missiles hit if you've got a nose-on shot

we are just a group of pubbers that hang out. we actually have voted down inititatives to have competitive squads, because it takes away from our primary function of just hanging out. We have a decent amount of members, and we like to play together, but we are not a clan.

Hahaha pretty funny article on the "history" of organized battles and why people act like they do in BF2:

Quote :
"The history of military training.

Obviously we're all Battlefield veterinarians here and don't need any advice on tactics or training. But I've delved a little deeper into the history of military tactics, to try and uncover why we do what we do.

The first evidence of organised armies becoming complex enough to warrant a formal training regime is found in ancient Egypt where ancient scraps of papyrus warn of the dangers snipers. The snipers of the day used longer ranged weapons and attempted to incapacitate their enemies with fatal headshots. Of course at this period of history a ranged weapon consisted of a slightly longer stick than your opponent. To combat these tactics the scriptures tell that commanders first toyed with the idea of 'even longer sticks' before settling on the strategy that is commonly seen throughout history. Solders in the Egyptian armies were taught that when crossing open terrain they should run in short randomly directed bursts whilst jumping around like fools.

Looking at the training regime of the classical Greek soldiers uncovers some remarkable insights. The Greeks were not trained in specific military skills, with the commanders of the era placing a strong emphasis on physical conditioning. The ancient Greeks worshiped many gods and even believed that the dead had the ears of the Gods and so could influence the lives and fates of the living. Popular military culture of the time involved shouting expletives at the recently deceased to in an attempt to appease the gods. Popular cries to be heard on the battlefield included "Don't punished me, because you ran into the area I just thrown a javelin" and "Well if you're going to crouch behind my chariot what do you expect ?, how can you punish me for that ?"

The Romans were the first soldiers to utilise squads and formations with the most popular tactic being the one that is still most widely used to this day. Roman commanders would organise their units into tight squads with a range of skill sets that would ensure that the squad could deal with almost any challenge that it could meet on the battlefield. Once battle commenced, the squad members would then rush in completely different directions setting there own objectives, based upon personal gain or sometimes what looked most interesting. Often large groups of soldiers would be seen gathered around a carpenter waiting for another chariot to be produced.

By the 17th Century the importance of transportation had become a key factor on the battlefield with cavalry being widely utilised. Recognition of the individual soldier became important at this time and so reward systems were widely used to recognise heroics on the battlefield. This system was revised by Napoleon, to become more like it's modern day counterpart after disaster struck in a key battle of the Napoleonic wars. One of Napoleons most trusted regiments was entirely destroyed by a much smaller cavalry force when they fool-hardily abandoned their muskets and bayonets in an attempt to win their 'Knife combat badges'

Well history tells many stories which explain our actions on the modern day battlefield, but re-search is time consuming so for now - that is all.

"

Axelay - yeah we are just picking it back up again for fun. A lot of the same guys were playing on the T:V BEML ladder and finished second last season. Everyone is kind of sick of T:V though because there are bugs that VU has said they are never going to patch. The T2 modding community is very strong and has made a lot of changes over the years so a lot of people are going back to it. I've played some LakRabbit the last couple nights and never have trouble finding a server.

Just came across this on another page about the patch

http://openbfhq.com/?p=65

Quote :
"Only 1 player in a vehicle will get credit for or speed up capturing a flag at a CP. The other passengers must exit the vehicle to increase the speed of capture or receive capture score"

That is a bullshit change. That totally defeats the purpose of helicopters. That means that door guns are worthless when taking a CP. IRL, the doorgunners don't jump out of the helicopter to cover their squad on the ground with their personal weapon, they stay in the helicopter and cover with the much more powerful chainguns.

This is an instance where the devs either didn't listen to the community, or tried to appease them too much by making an unrealistic change because too many people that don't know how to cope with this tactic complained.

I still dream that someday, another truly great Tribes game will come along. I don't count Vengeance. I have never loved any other game as much as I did T2. Of course, that's largely due to Renegades... Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy BF2 quite a bit - just nowhere near as much as T2.

Not to derail the thread, but a good IRL friend of mine and T2 teammate is joining the dev team of a new homegrown Tribes game. The old Renegades mod team decided to make their own game instead of helping the Legends team.

would the amount of system RAM have anything to do with in-game freezes? or is that gonna be completely on the server/connection side. cause i'm still havin connection issues and i even called roadrunner earlier and they basically just had me to a hard reset of everythin which had fixed it for a lil bit but then went back to doin it again. they said they really couldnt do anythin else for me since they showed me having a constant signal through the modem. i wonder if the router has anything to do with it though..i had the problem on wireless but am plugged in permanentely to the router now and still have probs.

Whoa! Who is it? I've been following Renwerx since the days of T1. I badly wish they'd update their page and give the fans a few more teasers as of late, though.

LOL. I think we need a T2 thread. "And now, back to your regularly scheduled BF2 thread."
