"all three are about 2.5 hours from each other"

I'd love to ride in a car that goes from Wilmington to Charlotte in 2.5 hours.

I'm just saying the only people that ever became Panthers fans in the east were people that did not care about the NFL beforehand (kinda like Triangle-area residents and the NHL). Why should I change my team allegiance that I followed for many years for a team that's 4-5 hours away in driving time? The Redskins for years were the Atlanta Braves of the NFL in that they were the team for southern fans. So why should these fans change their longstanding allegiance if a team gets moved to 300 miles away from them?

The idea that Charlotte should represent eastern NC in sports makes just as much sense as saying Washington should represent eastern NC, they're each about the same difference apart. I'm from New Bern-Havelock area, which is halfway between the northern and southern border. Charlotte is 300 miles away in driving distance, Washington is 330 miles. If you think Wilmington should be represented by Charlotte, fine, to each his own, but there are probably at the least a sizable minority of Redskins fans in Wilmington.

well what says that the people of Franklin, NC should be represented by Chapel Hill, and not Knoxville, TN? Chapel Hill is like 5 hours away.

"History might be in the making: NBC's Game 3 of the NHL's Stanley Cup Finals on Saturday night just might produce the lowest broadcast network prime-time rating ever."

I could care less about ratings... And I'm almost positive when the engraver is putting names on the Cup he's not putting asteriks for goalie injuries or rating numbers...

^^ Combine a sport that Americans don't generally like with a small market American team and a Canadian team of any type, let alone a small market Canadian team, and you're going to get low American TV ratings.

The ratings for the CBC will be HUGE.

^^^all that is true but add on top of that the team winning came out of nowhere (from preseason), roloson is out, and the canes are wiping the ice with an 8 seed minus their best player. the exact situation in nba would get low ratings and this is friggin hockey.

not many pple outside of alberta and nc give a shit.

plus i mean that last game was just plain boring. I mean I watched the first game, and it was entertaining, although a bit painful to watch; however, it was extremely difficult to look at the tv during the 2nd game. If the whole series is as one-sided as game 2, I'm pretty sure the ratings will be extremely low, which kinda sucks for the nhl, but what can ya do

You hope that Vs. is serious about being a sports network and goes after some stuff a little more broad than PBR and hunting to attract fans.

You make Vs. promote the hell out of hockey season during those other sports.

????

I doubt it ... I think the media and fans in general are a bit hesitant to embrace hockey so soon after it was lambasted for the work stoppage ...

the combined with the demolition of edmonton in game 2 means low excitement. low excitement = low ratings.

Oh no. There's no rescuing the ratings for the finals. I'm just saying that OLN/Vs. has an opportunity to be the network that makes people care about hockey again if they beef up on some other things. That's all. I'm not saying they're even necessarily going to take that ball and run with it. It's all wishful thinking on my part at this point.

I mean ffs, I love sailing, but I know that unless something crashes, breaks or sinks, it doesn't make good TV.

WHAT THE FUCK makes poker, dominos or any other "well its fun if you play it" sport markettable on TV?

Hockey is fast-paced, hard-hitting and fun to watch.

geez look what happens when you don't have someone to troll on your canes, is there any talk of hockey mainly concerning the canes and the oilers left in this thread, to get back on subject, take away the four defensemen and a really good center and the canes would have lost to the sabres, 4-1 in the series

I used to hate NJ fans but now I've see a new low from these Buffalotucky idiots. Their precious sabres got whupped and all they can do now is bitch and whine and moan about injuries this injuries that. They are out in droves pulling out every whiny bitch queen thing you can say on internet message boards.

CRY ME A RIVER. We didnt have Cole or Vasi...you were missing a couple of defensemen. Big whup. You should have prepared for it. Your backups were crap and you went home the loser.

Why not take all your pathetic whining energy and refocus it to the Bills season, after that FABULOUS draft they had, you can bet your ass they'll be on the bottom of things as usual. Pure excitement.

Advanced due to injuries? Haseksayswhat?

Why do I even feed this guy?

Hasn't been a lot of news to talk about, really. Best thing I've read about the series all day is that the 'Canes seem to understand that game 2 was a lot closer than its score. Or at least they're saying they understand it.

(The Sabres are talking about whether they should try to get on in two at that par 5 or play it safe.)

Yeah....like injuries had anything to do with the fact that the front line of edmonton could'nt hang anything but a GOOSE EGG through 3 periods the other night? What in fuck's sake does that have to do with goalie injurie?

And even when he was in tehre for the first game, Roloson was getting lit up like a lamp with 4 goals within 15 minutes of play.

What a bunch of bullshit and you know it. Canes are winning because they are:

1. Cam Ward
2. Experienced (re: veterans)
2. Fast
3. Versatile
4. Deep
5. Well Coached
6. Opportunistic with Power play.

So quit this injuries shit. Sure it's helped us...but to say we dont desrve to be where wer'e at or even to SUGGEST an asterix by our run is pure bullshit. It was bullshit in the regular season when we were games like hotcakes despite losing 2 of our 3 best players for a good amount of it, and its' especially bullshit after dispatching Montreal, NJ, Sabres to present time.

Uh... isn't Vasicek a healthy scratch?

You were missing Cole and they were missing one of their better centers and like half their defense.

If the tables were turned, it'd be like you losing Cole, Commodore, Welsey, and Ward and them missing Connolly and having Afinogenov as a healthy scratch. They have good reason to feel a little cheated out of their post season run, though that isn't Carolina's fault.

oh and when you don't have your top goalie and you have to rely on someone who hasn't played in forever, it brings you confidence level down and you try to do things that you wouldn't normally do when you had your starter in, which opens up opportunities for the other team. And if you goalie is letting in every other shot that your not going to have any momentum, you all should know that because gerber did it in game 1 against montreal.

Who cares about the top goalie. We lit him up in game 1 when it counted. Just because we couldnt get any offense going in the first period had nothing to do with him stopping us...it was Edmonton's defensive line.

It doesnt matter whose in its goal...and btw, mental struggles like 'team confidence in losing rolo yah blah blah' carry zero weight in the sports world and at the end of the day its just a whiny, empty excuse.

You'd do well to remember that as you lick your hurt sabre wounds.

the bottom line is yes the Sabres did have injuries, but that doesn't mean that the Canes wouldn't have still beat them if the players hadn't been injured. in a perfect world the two teams would face each other with no players injured. Sabres fans need to quit bitching about injuries and get over it.

look i think they would have beaten the canes if we had our injured players and you had cole but thats not the topic of discussion, if we want to talk about how the canes barely squeezed by the sabres then we can go back to that thread, but this thread is about the canes and oilers, that be said, not having roloson is a big blow, when they had him the game was close, put someone else in and the game isn't close at all, i think i see a difference, how could you not

The funny ass part about this whole argument is that sabres fans are DYING...no wait, CRYING to get Canes fans to accept that the Sabres lost only because they were hurt, and the Stanley Cup finals belong to them by right, and they are the more deserving fanbase.

But the bitter reality is...Canes fans don't give a fuck about you, neither does the NHL, or Lord Stanley, or the Buffalo sports gods in general for that matter.....because you are sitting at home like a bunch of bitches.

S.C.O.R.E.B.O.A.R.D. We don't care how much you whine. It was a good series but we're the better team. Pwnt, over and done with, see ya next season, until next time, au revoir, balls in your eye.

^^ the canes had come back to lead 4-3 at the point roloson got injured.

he had given up 4 in less than 20 mins. the canes' first goal was late in the 2nd, he goes out with about 5 left in the 3rd.
