I think the ultimate cause though of the downfall is that no one is afraid of the Hurricanes. We need grit, I think the next move should be to get either an enforcer or a good agitator. I think we should call up the Canucks and try to get Alex Burrows off of them. He doesn't have the other baggage that a Sean Avery has, but also plays good hockey. He had 31 points last year with 179 PIMs, I think that's the type we need. This year he has 13 points with 41 PIMs so he is getting more disciplined and being smarter about his actions.

But the 'Canes are ultimately too small and not imposing enough to be a force to be reckoned with. We need that person that no one wants to mess with. You won't go after the star player if you have to deal with a Laraque, Boogaard or the likes. I think that's what we ultimately need. Ruutu is too valuable to do all of that, he has been one of the 3 best players all year without a doubt and we can't waste him for something like that. This is the true type of trade that needs to be made.

People are talking like this was some snap thing and like Laviolette just got hired. There've been some glaring problems for too long now that just NEVER. CHANGE.

I have no idea who I'd like to see coach. They'll probably hire someone unproven and just hire back Laviolette in a year. Wash rinse repeat.

I still think we'd have made the playoffs this year and it just seems a little silly to pay two coaches (he still gets paid for the last 2 years of his contract, right?) cause I doubt Maurice will make much of a difference. The more I think about this the sillier it seems. Just get to the playoffs and then find someone in the offseason if he can't fix the power play and get out of the first round.

Just go hire back Trevor Kidd while your at it.

I'd say there has to be something behind the scenes regarding that that we don't know about. I thought it was blatantly obvious when Rowe was brought up over the summer that he was being positioned to take over as head coach if Lavi struggled early in the season. Something must have happened between now and then to change JRs mind.

Rowe was brought up as an assistant coach so Jeff Daniels could get some head coach experience so that Daniels could coach one day, not so Rowe could take over

more likely, Tom Rowe was part of JRs headgames with Laviolette.

If I was at work and had to work closely with a guy that many said could be my replacement, I'm sure I'd feel extra incentive to get the job done.

maybe JR never intended for Rowe to coach at all, and he was trying to motivate Laviolette.
