I just installed android on my Sprint Touch Pro. In effect, I'm dual booting android and windows mobile. Totally sweet, but with hiccups, since everything is running off the SD-card. Interface seems comparable to SPB Mobile Shell with a couple other tweaks. I want to check the video playback ability, does anyone know of a player that can play back divx files?

I had an Eris for a week or so and really like Sense UI. Plus, I'm kinda scared of all the problems reported with the N1 so far. Google seems to be addressing the fragmentation issue as one of their top priorities so hopefully waiting for updates in the future won't be so bad.

Yeah the extra data fee for 4G kinda sucks, also so does waiting till June Outside of that, the bigger screen and the wi-fi hotspot feature are the main reasons for me wanting the Evo. I know there are ways of getting the hotspot feature on other phones but you have to root it to do that right?

I need the ability to get push email from multiple gmail accounts. Is this included in Android OS 2.0 and higher or is that a phone specific thing?

Works for me on a Droid with 2.1. Worked with 2.0 too, IIRC.

Just set 'em up as Gmail accounts using the built-in tools, and it works fine. Push should work on any and all Gmail accounts that you configure. I have three on mine... one Gmail, two Google Apps. All get messages quickly.

Just installed Swype on the Nexus One. Already had it on the G1. I used to hate it (several months ago) but man was I wrong. Everyone needs to get swype on their phone and at least try it out.

Physical KB's and pecking are a think of the past. I can't go back to a normal (or soft) KB now. I know the beta is closed now but I found some on XDA for both the G1 and N1.

yeah, and you don't have to do mail-in rebates with Best Buy and will usually price match. Don't forget about their secondary ETF though:

Quote :
"Our goal is to provide you with the very best purchasing experience possible, including huge savings vs. buying in a retail store. Your wireless device purchase price was reduced by an Equipment Discount of $200 ($300 for PDA's and smart phones; $300 for Netbooks). By accepting this price reduction, you agree to repay this discount if, during the 181 days after your new equipment is activated, you:
Fail to pay your balance due to Verizon Wireless each month
Disconnect this Verizon Wireless line of service
Transfer this equipment to another Verizon Wireless line of service
Change your Verizon Wireless service rate plan to a lower monthly service rate
Deactivate the email/data feature if one was required at the point of purchase
Transfer/port an existing mobile number from another Verizon Wireless account if this is a new line of service
Replace an existing account with Verizon Wireless with this account if this is a new line
Return your equipment for a refund or exchange and it is not in its original, new condition or it is not returned within the 30-day return period outlined in our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.
If you break any of these contract provisions, except as a result of a documented service quality issue related to the carrier service, you authorize us to charge your credit card in repayment of the Equipment Discount."

so, since im up for a new phone this summer on verizon and I am planning to take the plunge into the world of smart phones, this Incredible seems like it would be a pretty sweet first smart phone. Will this come with free google maps driven gps like the Droid does? Wasn't sure whether that was an Android OS thing or something just offered on the Motorola Droid.

I see "integrated GPS" but wasnt sure whether they were talking hardware of the free functionality or what.

(Probably a n00b question, sorry)

Awesome, thanks. I guess I need to re-read a lot of this thread to catch up

Also, this is using the HTC Sense UI correct? Opinions on that vs whats on Motorola's Droid? (I am comparing this to that simply because I have been able to get hands on with these phones a few times)

SenseUI is on the HTC devices, not on Motorola devices, although if you root a Droid you can OC it to 1Ghz and get SenseUI using a custom ROM, but they're still working on it.

HTC Incredible will run 1Ghz out of the box so it will be a lot more responsive than the Droid stock speed. SenseUI is a pretty nice interface, the question is how well it will perform, I know some people on the NexusOne have had issues with it being a bit laggy, even on 1Ghz.

hopefully the Incredible has a better way of turning the phone to vibrate mode and back...unlike the damn droid which would quietly cancel my selection of "Vibrate on" and cause me to miss calls and texts in my pocket

you have a droid right? go into settings and check vibrate. now lock the screen, and slide to go into silent mode. no longer vibrates. slide back into normal more. still no vibrate. it just erases your setting. this is a known bug with the droid:

I never actually use the silent slider. Believe some of the custom roms have it where it will enable only vibrate or go back to normal. I just use Quick Profiles and have one for silent and one for normal.

You should be able to go into the app and change the vibrate and/or ringtone in the options. To remove an app, you just go to Settings, Applications, Select the one you want and hit uninstall.

my alarm hasn't gone twice now, nothing to do with app killer. this morning i had it set for 6:38. i roll over to check what time it is- 6:41 and then the air decides to go off as i'm looking at it

but i'm liking it more and more each day. setting your own ringtones to alarms is a chore and a half

Simple Battery Cover fix for Droid:
http://lifehacker.com/5420606/fix-a-loose-battery-cover-on-your-droid
If you've bent it beyond repair, take the cover back or ask Motorola for a new one, they should have a standard warranty for it.

For setting vibrate for notifications:
1) Messaging: Go to the messaging main menu (not in a thread) and click menu (the button with 4 lines on it), click settings, then scroll to the bottom. You should have an option to turn on notifications, set the notification tone, and set it to vibrate.
2) Google Talk: Go to the main screen, click menu, click more, click settings, scroll to the bottom. You should have the same options as the messaging app, ringtone setting and vibrate.
3) Phone: Just use your volume buttons on the side to set your ringer to vibrate only. This will also disable all notification tones and you should get a vibrate on any call, sms, or IM.

Posting pictures:
a) In the camera app, make sure it's set to camera, go into your settings and make sure you're taking high-resolution pictures with fine quality. Go to the app you want to upload with there are hundreds. Each app should ask you which picture to upload and probably has size/quality restrictions, but otherwise should upload the picture at full quality, as always check your settings. If you're looking for a generic app, photobucket has an app, otherwise twidroid or facebook both have upload features built-in.
