I'm enjoying the M83 album

a lot of it is very 80s/The Cure-ish. and dude's voice sounds a lot different.

well the nearby m83 show in november has already moved locations and subsequently sold out again. that's annoying.

This thread could be deleted if you all got Sirius and listened to the XMU station. It plays every single thing you guys mention weeks before you mention it. $52 a year is totally worth it.

Um, that's how radio works. Radio gets press copies of a record months before it's released, so they can choose what to play weeks before it's released, so you'll hear it, know about, and buy it when it comes out.

This has been the case for over 90 years.

^me too. exactly, what I've recently been thinking. I just got Spotify and the big thing that its missing as far as i can tell is radio stations or an RSS input, or some sort of way of getting playlists automatically. I even searched online for Sirius XMU playlists so i could make them by hand, but i couldn't find one.

If i could get XMU music through Spotify, i'd quit that and just use Spotify for everything.

$52/month is what they offered me after the the free subscription my car came with ran out. I heard if you call you can hassle them down in price. The sound quality isn't super hot, but i think its well worth it at that price.

wow. insanely good opening track. never thought i'd ever hear anything like this from jeff tweedy after the last two albums.

if you want to spend some time, just look at the recent channel playlists on http://www.dogstarradio.com and then build your own list in spotify.

i downloaded the new wilco, and my processor appears to have melted about 30 seconds after it completed.

i will be writing an angry letter to jeff tweedy demanding he replace my laptop and my hundreds of gigs of pirated music.

side note: reminder kids, back your shit up. don't be like this chump and have had put it off for a few months.

^^ i thought it was one of the better releases from this year when it came out, but it's kind of gotten overshadowed by some other things since then. i think it's worth checking out if you haven't yet. there are a couple good tracks on it. not their best though.

still gonna buy tickets for tuesday, b/c i had already taken a few extra days off w/ Hopscotch recovery allotted in.

^i can agree

first listen, but i just listened to the entire thing at work and it was literally background noise. Usually with new albums something will catch my ear and i'll listen again or start the track over but this one just played through without a notice. oh well

I love okkervil river, but i'm not a huge fan of the new album. the b-sides they've released with the singles have been better than the album cuts.

btw, what is with okkervil river choosing openers that are vastly superior live acts?

first future islands and titus andronicus, now wye oak?

i don't know why they do it, but i'm glad they're willing to take the risk of being upstaged. those have been some great openers, and it's part of the reason i thought i would get tix to the Raleigh show.

"vastly superior" with respect to future islands is probably relative to the size of the venue they're in and how engaged the crowd is. i went to the show at the 9:30 club in DC, which is one of the top venues in the country from my understanding, and the room just seemed a little too big for future islands. it didn't help that they went on at like 7:30 either. kinda felt bad for them because i've seen pictures of how wild some of their shows at smaller venues can get.

yeah, i disagree with the "vasly superior" statement as well, but i definitely see where vb's coming from.

OR's body of work is better than both, right now.

I wasn't talking about material, so much as OR is a pretty sedate live band that doesn't actively engage the audience at all, versus bands like FI and TA who are bursting with energy.

i dunno. i thought OR put on a decent enough show, but there was way too much backing vocals from the bass player (i think it was the bass player), and that was kind of distracting because his mic was turned up way too loud. like i said earlier though, "the valley" was awesome and got pretty intense towards the end. the audience ate up will sheff's solo performance of "stone" too. TA might've been a little more enjoyable just because i didn't have any gripes with their performance afterwards other than them not playing "a pot in which to piss"

/show review from like 5 months ago that belongs in a different thread

So I just listened to Mogwai for the first time ever. I listened to "The Hawk Is Howling" all the way through and was a little confused, probably because I didn't know what I was getting. I was listening to other stuff when a song from that album would creep into my head and I was like "I wanna listen to that again". It seems like I keep going back into that album, and now the album has gone from "huh?" to full blown "the shit". I just listened to Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will. good shit. will listen to the rest soon enough

Can't get that megafaun stream to work at my office, but this month is pretty awesome for music. New girls and st. vincent tomorrow, new megafaun next week, new surprisingly pretty good wilco the week after that. I may even see all of those bands this month with the exception of st vincent. The only way it'd be better for me is if I could've gone to hopscotch

Also heard a new pearl jam single today. Surprise, surprise. It sucks. I don't know why I bother listening to the crap these guys have been spitting out every couple of years for the last decade
