Basically going to have to pray Duke beats UNC this weekend and that we can win the 4/5 game and then beat Duke.

Those projected brackets assume that no Cinderella teams win their conference tourneys which isn't typically the case.

It's okay if a team like Bowling Green pulls off upsets and wins the MAC, but its killer if a team like Northern Iowa wins the MVC so they get an automatic bid and Wichita State still has to be given an at-large spot.

A few of these teams we may get picked over anyway for at-large but I've provided a list below of all the teams we want to win their conference tourney to free up as many potential at-large bids as possible for us. If a conference is not listed then I am assuming it is irrelevant as no teams in the conference have an at-large resume if they don't win their tournament.

There are a few questionable teams I have left off at the moment like Texas for example. If they finish the season well and are definitely going to be in the NCAA tournament as an at-large then we'd much rather them win the Big 12 than say Oklahoma State. Basically, we'd like for many of those questionable teams to just lose out for the rest of the season, but if they do happen to win their next 1-3 games then they may as well win the whole conference anyway (particularly a team like Texas who we beat).

Big 10: MSU, OSU, Wisc, Ind, Michigan,
Big 12: KU, Missou, Baylor, Kstate
Big East: Cuse, marq, gtown
SEC: Kentucky, florida, vandy
ACC: UNC, Duke, FSU, UVA or NC STATE (1987 ACC CHAMPS BABY!)
MWC: New Mexico or UNLV
A-10: St Louis or Temple
MVC: Wichita
C-USA: Memphis
WCC: Gonzaga, BYU, or St Marys
WAC: Nevada
CAA: Drexel or VCU
Ivy: Harvard
Atlantic Sun: Belmont
OVC: Murray State
Sun Belt: MTSU
MAAC: Iona
Southern: Davidson
Big West: Long Beach

Here's how last year's Clemson team sneaked into the Tourney

2011 Clemson Tigers
- finished regular season 20-10, 9-7 in ACC play
- drew a #4 seed and first-round bye in ACC Tourney
- won first game and advanced to Saturday
- took #1 UNC to overtime and lost

Out of Conference:
Top 100 Wins: Seton Hall, @ Charleston, ECU, Wofford (NCAA team)
Losses: ODU, Michigan, @ S. Carolina

RPI: 57
SOS: 63

I think UVA is still considered a lock at this point barring something crazy. I don't really agree with that but thats the feeling I'm getting.

yes there are several teams in the big east and the other major conferences that would most likely get in over us that i left off. I didnt really feel like getting into a debate about which teams were on the bubble

Mainly just wanted to establish the teams in the lesser conferences where its important that they win their conference tournament.

^ yes thats how it works

If the records are still tied then i believe the next tiebreaker is "best record vs the #1 seed" then 2 seed and so on

the only thing that VT can say is that they came close to beating both FSU and virginia. close but no cigar.

CJ needs a bounce back game

Need the same or a little more from Wood

Alex and Painter keep coming on strong

need Howell to show up, not club hands.

Calvin and Zo just do what they do. maybe more floaters in the lane by Zo.

its real simple now

UVA plays @UMD Sunday at 2pm

if Maryland wins, we control our own destiny (for the 4 seed) if we beat Va Tech later on in the day

if Virginia wins, we need to win for a 5-seed and potential rematch with Virginia on Friday if we handle our business against Georgia Tech (most likely) on opening Thursday

if we lose to VT, we're the 6-seed most likely since Miami's last game is at home versus BC

^i think it would be

4-UVA
5-NCSU
6-MIA

but i might be wrong, it might start with the three teams' records versus the next lowest seed, which if Clemson wouldn't be good

2-team tiebreakers go by head-to-head records, so we're 0-1 against UVA and 2-0 against Miami

3 is a little more complicated

wait,if clemson wins out (against vt and fsu) they would be 9-7 and have the head to head tiebreaker against us, right? so even with uva losing out, if clemson wins out we would have the 5 seed.

and if Clemson loses this game to VT (up 33-31 at the half) they're pretty much out of the equation

Go Hokies!

tough to say. the ACC should get at least 4 in, but the selection committee will favor a team that is hot at the end of the year rather than a bubble team on the slide. which is a little bs.

But i think if they don't finish 4th they will beat GT easily. I say UVA is a lock unless they have back to back 20 point loses.

Also they have a win over at the time #15 mich, but other than that the noconf schedule was easy. their ACC record is about the same as ours with out the GT loss.

if they don't make it past friday, that'd probably be a loss to us (hopefully) after beating GT.. having us at 9-7 and beating them but then they make it to the NCAAT would suck

Basically the vt game is a must win. Because we all know uva is going to win, miami will win, and clemson will probably win out of spita leaving us looking at the 7 seed.

According to the scenarios in the Washington Post article if we lose and Miami wins we are the 7. So basically a loss gets the 7 bc Miami won't lose. Vt is a must win regardless but it would really suck to end with the 7 seed.

Well I'll be rooting like hell for Maryland over UVA, but it seems like a long shot. I don't understand how this Maryland team gets up in the morning. They are so fucking atrocious. Of course, UVA's epic bed-shutting from last night gives me hope.

^^You can't miss the tourney based purely on spite.

it doesn't matter to me what seed we get if we lose to VT because honestly, seeding won't matter one damn bit. The rest of our season will just be a warmup for next year.

Miami is the lock of the week lock of century to beat BC. it all comes down to Beating the nutles turkeys and hoping Maryland can crush someone else dreams like they normally do to us.

in reality MD owes us a few, even counting the comeback win in football.

Lets hope the FSU meltdown took all the fight out of them.

I think it will be duke assuming they beat carolina, otherwise we'd have to play carolina in the semi's

So wait, those scenarios up there do not account for what happens if we win, UVA wins, Miami wins, and Clemson wins. Does that mean that we could beat VT and still be a 6 seed? Ouch.

This sounds weird, but I kinda hope UNC beats Duke. It'll give them the #1 seed and it'll go straight to their heads. If they lose to Duke, they will be fighting to win the ACCT in hopes that it'll help them with seeding for the NCAAs.

I know everyone wants us to play Duke (and even I was saying it earlier), but I also remembered that historically UNC does pretty poorly in the ACC tourney since Roy became coach. I'm thinking he'll be more focused on winning the NCAAs than caring about the ACCT. If we draw them when they're the #1 seed, I think we might be able to catch them sleeping since they beat us twice pretty easily already.

Yeah we match up much better against Duke, but aren't tourneys about mojo and momentum? I have a weird feeling that we beat Carolina if we face them.

Of course I'm probably wrong and we'll lose to VT and in the first round to whoever we end up facing

We could play unc twenty times and we might not win once. Duke is not only the inferior team but we don't have any chance of beating Carolina. If you think unc is going to sleepwalk against us you are nuts.

Unc is likely winning the acc this year. Only team they are concerned about is Fsu

I think 9-7 and then winning our first 2 ACC tournament games puts us into the first 4. I hope. And we definitely do not want to see UNC again unless Henson or Zeller break a leg.

I don't want to play UNC again.

I wouldn't mind playing Duke again.

I don't think FSU is that great, but we don't match up with them and they've got some mojo going (how many fucking buzzer beaters are they going to hit this year??).

So our best bet would to somehow get Duke.

Duke gives us a signature win and we can beat them.

Unc gives us another 20 point blowout loss

Fsu gives us a good win but not really signature and they're tough for us to hang with.

No question we want duke. Uva we can beat bc their 2nd best player broke his hand and we can contain mike Scott somewhat
