^^ Because it's humans picking the 'best teams' and not computers that were unobjective. They picked FSU 3rd probably because they didn't have any signature wins. FSU's two best games were against ND and Clempson. ND was a controversial win at home, not a 'big win'. The clemson game was also at home and it was a win in overtime against the freshman Watson at qb. I'm not saying that FSU doesn't deserve 1st place, but FSU didn't face any strikingly tough teams and didn't blow out the easy teams that they should have (e.g. us, WF, Miami, everyone but CU and ND).

@ #25 Louisville on Thursday night win should definitely be considered a "good" win. Beating #11 GT is also a pretty damn good win. Beating arguably the nation's best defense, without your starting QB is pretty impressive too - not sure why it matters that Clemson was playing their true freshmen QB. He was by far their best QB and will probably get some preseason all acc votes this coming year. Watson's good.

By the end of the year ND was FSU's like 4th best win.

It's easy to talk about FSU struggling early on with weaker teams - but they still managed to beat State and Louisville by double digits even after huge first half deficits.

And FSU did blow out Cuse and Wake - beating Cuse by 3 possessions and Wake by 40 points

Who cares, they are in. I don't see any difference between the 4 teams in terms of who you would or wouldn't want to play. Maybe some years in the future it will be a bigger deal where the seeds land but this year the top 4 seem pretty interchangeable, won't be shocked by whoever wins they are all capable.

Also UGA's backs are making this statistically good Lou run defense look pretty average. Pretty nice for the future of UGA's running game.

The committee may have also considered placing the teams based on matchups.

Everyone agrees that OSU is the #4 of those teams, so the question is who plays them and then who is left. I think they wanted the bigger offenses to play each other for a high scoring game. The over/under on the Bama/OSU game is in the 50's but for the FSU/Oregon game it's in the 70's. Being #2 or #3 is interchangeable since there is no "home field," and they wanted those 2 teams to play each other. Florida State against Ohio State doesn't seem as interesting.

Right, so it sucks that FSU has to travel across the country to play Oregon. My whole family went last year and said the Rose Bowl as a venue sucks. The stadium is old and dilapidated so none of them are going all the way back out there again That is the reason the seeding matters. Not for who you play.

Time for a lot of people in this thread to apologize to me for saying the idea of a 6 or 8 team playoff was completely unecessary .

This is a disaster. The whole season is wasted and there will be no true champion.

Please tell me how TCU (before this game) deserved to be in the top 4. I don't think they showed this season before killing Miss that they were the number 4 team. They lost to Baylor, and almost lost to (within 4 points) Oklahoma, WVU, and Kansas. OSU killed the number 2 defense in the nation for the B10 championship game. Just saying that I do think there should be a 6 team playoff, but TCU wasn't top 4 to the committee. (really though I think it should have been Oregon 1, Alabama 2, tOSU 3, and TCU 4. FSU hasn't played really well all season and has had no solid wins).

the NCAA could change it if they want to, but it is confirmed for now. Unless if they decide to change it, the 4 team playoff is what is going.

I have been and am still in favor of 8 teams. Conference champ from each of the power 5, and then the next 3 ranked.

Clemson (without Winston), @Louisville, Georgia Tech

And Notre Dame isn't that good - but they just beat LSU in their bowl. If you count LSU as a solid win for Bama, you gotta count ND as a solid win for FSU right?

There is absolutely no sane argument that anybody could make for leaving FSU out of the top 4.

CU, LU, and GT were good wins, but there weren't solid wins. FSU (like the most of the rest of the ACC) had a shit easy schedule. LSU was a decent team, but definitely not a top team so. Also, ND was trash awful once they faced FSU. Every other team in the top 6 had extremely impressive wins or blowouts against other top teams that stayed in the top. Personally (I understand why rankings have them higher and why the committee put them in) I can not see FSU deserving a spot in the top 4. They barely beat an easy ACC schedule and they played an extremely easy OOC schedule.

They should mandate that all BCS teams must play another BCS OOC team in week 8 or 9 of the season(unless you already play an OOC rivalry game). The small sample of decent OOC games we get the first week or two of the season simply isn't enough to gauge the relative strength of the conferences and since the majority of the games are played in conference the data we are going off of is worthless, till we get to the bowls and get a better idea of who might or might not have actually been good. We get a month of Wofford and directional Michigan vs. P5 teams and then 2 months of conference play. No way to know who is really a good conference until the bowls are played then we all the sudden are like, "hey I guess TCU wasn't bad," although the rest of the Big 12 so far has looked like garbage.

Should also be an 8 team playoff, 5 conference winners with 3 wild-cards and make Big 12 play a conference championship, even if it is just the top 2 playing each other after the regular season. Not sure why you have to have 12 teams, 10 team round robin and 1-2 playing each other would be fine, they should get the exemption to do it with 10 instead of 12 teams since they don't want to expand. Not getting to see Baylor v. TCU round 2 sucked, that would have been a great game.

If this game had happened, then you know for sure the winner would have been undoubtedly worthy to be in the playoff and the committee would have had to put them in the top 4. Even without more teams added to the playoffs, it's pretty clear Big12 needs to add a championship or stay out of the playoffs.

^^Did you even see Florida, OK State, or ND this season. They all played like crap. They aren't the teams they were a few seasons ago. The best of them (ND) had 7 wins before the bowl game. That is hardly, at all, a good ooc schedule. They didn't play anything close to what Alabama, Oregon, OSU, TCU, or Baylor played. If FSU would have beat the teams like they should have, then it would be an easy pick. However, FSU barely beat teams that were easy.

^^^^ I was taking a look at how the committee looked at it. As I said in that quote, TCU was my number 4 team. They should have made it, but I was looking at the committee. I really didn't separate that in my posts.

Who has the worse OOC schedule:

FSU: Ok State (neutral site), Citadel, ND, Florida

or

Alabama: West Virginia, FAU, So. Miss, Western Carolina

or

Ohio St: @Navy, VT, Kent St, Cincy

Clearly FSU's is the best of those 3. Oregon's is better since they did play Mich St...but their other OOC opponents were Wyoming and South Dakota St. You're flat out wrong saying FSU's weak OOC schedule should keep them out.

I'm not sure where you drawing the line between "good win" and "solid win". Do you mean like a large margin of victory = a solid win? They beat Louisville by two possessions....I would say that's a "good win" and that they solidly beat them. So because Alabama only beat LSU in OT, we should hold that against them? That's less impressive of a win than FSU beating Clemson in OT without their Heisman QB. Or I guess Alabama only beating Arkansas by 1 should also be a mark against them. Ohio State let Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, Penn St, and Navy all hang around until the 3rd or 4th quarters. Those are weaker teams that they pulled away from late just like FSU pulling away late vs State and Louisville or letting Miami or Florida hang around all game.

Not to mention FSU hasn't lost a fucking game all year. Ohio State lost Virginia Tech. You can't make an argument for FSU not making the playoff. That's ridiculous.

I don't get all the disrespect for FSU. They are the only undefeated team and are the defending champions. It seems to me they deserve the benefit of the doubt over a number of teams that have lost to inferior opponents. Thank goodness for the playoff. What an injustice it would have been if we were under the old system and FSU got left out of the championship.

^yep. FSU is undefeated and has some impressive wins, regardless of what people say. they have struggled with inferior opponents, but so have other teams in the playoff. they clearly have not been as impressive as they were in 2013, but they've yet to lose. i don't know that FSU is the best team in the country. i'm not convinced they are. but they absolutely deserve a spot in the playoff.

i get that people root against them since they're the defending national champs, they don't like winston, or whatever reason...but they definitely are a top 4 team.

And Boise State proves why every single conference in FBS should have a berth in the playoff. 16 team playoff is the way to go, but the big conferences won't allow that, because fuck if they will let a small conference ever get the national championship again. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: if a conference is so shitty that it doesn't "deserve a playoff bid," then it shouldn't be an FBS conference, period. If you're worried about it, put a 3-loss max for being considered, and require that all teams play at least 3 OOC games against FBS competition.

^^^^^^^^ Alabama and tOSU don't need a strong ooc because they play a really good in conference schedule. FSU had no wins that made you think they were a top team, they just didn't lose. Every other team in the top 6 had signature wins. Site FSU didn't lose, but they didn't lose to teams that weren't difficult compared to the other teams in the top 6.

And FSU really didn't have that impressive of an ooc schedule. 2 easy teams, 1 mid level at a neutral site, and an ND at home. Hardly noteworthy.

them not losing is exactly what makes them a top team. and since when is the big 10 so much better than the acc? and mighty ohio state lost to virginia tech from the shitty ACC. if a shitty team from a shitty conference can beat ohio state, what business does ohio state have being in the playoff? florida state was 4-0 vs ranked teams this year. ohio state was 3-0 vs ranked teams this year. ohio state's schedule wasn't that hard. that's an absolutely bullshit argument.

you're making it sound like 2014 FSU is an undfefeated mid major or something. they're a really good football team. a top 4 team for sure.

hardly noteworthy, yet still significantly better than alabama and ohio st's OOC schedules.

ohio state played these teams in the B1G:

maryland, rutgers, penn st, illinois, michigan st, minnesota, indiana, michigan, wisconsin. they played 2 good teams all year....michigan st and wisconsin.
