I still don't think this means he can't win-- he's been outperforming so far. I think this shows if he DOES manage to win, he would be very unpredictable.

Check out this graphic and compare it to results.
There's a lot of similarity between Donald Trump and Jeremy Corbyn.
If he hypothetically does win, he'll be pretty much the third president in the country's history that would serve as effectively an independent with neither party in Congress backing him it looks. The first two were promoted vice presidents: John Tyler and Andrew Johnson, the latter one vote away from being convicted of impeachment.

Rubio is attacking Trump, but this line of attack doesn't seem like it will be fruitful. You can't attack Trump on policy, you have to attack him on character. They need to really start treating him like a reality TV star, IMO.
People don't like Trump because of his policy, they like him because of his style. Trump doesn't have a firm policy platform anyway... 2/24/2016 11:45:32 PM |

Yes, but how? I agree, but there has yet to be a successful critique of Trump that seems to have had any net effect on his numbers. He's basically the Come At Me Bro meme personified. Cruz went head to head with him in an effective manner at the last debate and Trump just kept getting louder and louder and louder. We'll see what happens tonight, but I'm not putting much faith in the guy who almost had a meltdown when Christie prodded him slightly being able to withstand a full frontal Trump assault - especially now that Jeb! won't be on the stage to draw Trump's fire. 2/25/2016 7:00:55 AM |

^ i think hammering home he's a reality TV star, this is his business. This is where most of his wealth is. Comparing his pedigree to Paris Hilton, comparing his bombast to Kanye West, mocking and bullying him like he mocks others. No one has given him a taste of his own medicine. Make fun of him being a daddy's boy that was born with a silver spoon. Being laughingly dismissive and mocking of him. Trump has a really thin skin, they should try to push him into a tantrum on live TV, and do so continuously.
The other angle that might work is manipulating his supporters' insecurities. Trump has no problem saying "people or Iowa are stupid" even when he's trying to get their votes. I don't think it would be damaging for a Rubio or Cruz to say "Trump supporters are stupid-- they're supporting the Paris Hilton of politics, who can't close a business deal with bankruptcy, you can't declare bankruptcy when dealing with Putin and bail out" or something along those lines.
I've been trying to give conservatives the benefit of the doubt more on their racism, they don't make it easy, but this seems true to me:
Quote : | " While conservatism has perfectly non-racist basis in theory — and a great many people subscribe to it without harboring racial motives of either the open or the covert kind — it is simply a fact that white racial fears supply a large proportion of real-world Republican votes. " |

He definitely would if only the media voted. But, one moment you won't see getting much replay today was the telemundo reporter calling out Rubio in espanol for his claim Cruz lied about what he said with Jorge Ramos. Very strong question and one I was surprised hadn't been asked sooner. Immigration dominated the first hour of the debate and that is still the reason Rubio is not gaining with Cruz or Trump voters. 2/26/2016 6:28:00 AM |

I don't understand why the media has a definite anti-Trump Spin. Cruz is the absolute worst thing that could happen to this country unless you own an oil company or are a god-fearing bible bumper that wants to enact Christian Shar'ia law on the nation and are more worried about gays getting married then petty issues like:
-crim justice reform -the economy - our crumbling infrastructure etc. 2/26/2016 11:09:49 AM |

I watched the debate and had a great time. For me it was more entertainment than it was a typical debate. People throwing quips at each other back and forth, some landing hard and some returned with a better quip. I like how the debates don't really involve discussing real issues but is more of a wrestling match of words between candidates. Is there any correlation to being a good "debater" and actually being a good president? 2/26/2016 2:20:42 PM |
GoldieO All American 1801 Posts user info edit post |
Depends on whether you think he was a good president, but I'd submit Lincoln. Been boning up on the Lincoln/Douglas debates recently as a palate cleanser to our modern "debates" and just puts in perspective how far we've fallen. Can you imagine the twitterverse if two guys just sat on a stage orating for 60 mins, then 90 mins, then 30 more mins? None of us can pay attention to anything for three straight hours anymore thanks to the internet. I blame TWW and Obama.

Pretty bad night for the GOP. Cruz doing better than darling Rubio, trump crushing everyone, Rubio just under the threshold to get any delegates.
At the least, we can all say we're living through a very transformational time in American politics. Hopefully we aren't transforming into our demise...
To think, if just a few more people in Florida had voted in 2000, things could have gone very differently.

I strongly concur more Cruz voters would vote Trump than Rubio based on a lot of internet research. As a Cruz supporter I would prefer the remaining candidates drop, or at least Kasich and Carson, so we can have a clear contrast between 2-3 remaining candidates, but it appears that isn't going to happen before March 15. My question for Rubio supporters continues to be, even assuming he wins FL - a big assumption at this point - then what? What other states can he win? You can't have a "brokered" convention with MN and FL, at least Reagan won 23 states back in 1976 for comparison since the talking heads keep throwing that one out there. 3/2/2016 5:57:32 AM |

^^ Desperation setting in for Rubio after Tuesday, Cruz making it known he's going to compete hard in FL, and the NY Mag article about even Fox News dropping him now. He could officially malfunction on stage. I also think Trump is going to keep his presidential act going tonight and try to avoid any of his previous antics and insults. Sen. Cruz, of course, will continue to outperform everyone on stage as well as being the best dressed and most handsome. John Kasich will say words and annoy people.
