While I don't doubt that person brings some value to the people in their life (otherwise, those people wouldn't have them in their life), it's not necessarily always "happiness."

I think this is a misinterpretation. I don't think the "average American" you refer to ever even had the intention to have kids.

So sure, I have a HS friend or two who are conservative, lack a college education, and did the shotgun wedding route. But I think those are more of the exception to the rule. That still represents a mostly intentional and responsible life. However trashy they are, those kids still have a stable household.

If someone's confessing to TWW about how she wants BC to fail, then that's a fundamental failure to be openly honest about how much and how soon she wants kids, at minimum. If they, as a couple, are trying to exercise restraint by waiting to have a family, then the situation isn't terribly bad. That's also a pretty generous interpretation of the situation.

If you feel like an accidental pregnancy (that you want) is rolling the dice in terms of if the guy will stay with you, that's probably the wrong guy for you.

It's a story all too common. It's a clearcut asymmetric relationship, and might be described as codependent. There are several resources you can look into that will help you assert your needs. Obvious suggestion is:



Given her apparent lack of consideration, you may or may not want to let her in on the idea that you're "testing" a new strategy. I don't really know if you're actually going out with her. I would get a good male friend to confide in, and then construct particular social situations to test her reactions.
