Except amendment 1 isn't the solution to this problem, it only exacerbates it in the long run.

The solution is to allow the gays to get married, then the employer could, without repercussion, only offer health benefits to "married" couples.

It is unfair, but the solution isn't for the company to tolerate the law that creates the problem, it's to work to chane the law. With a growing majority of Americans supporting equal rights, I'm sure we'll see more companies speak out.
