here come the glitches with the patch

glitch 1:
some teammates show up red so when u kill them thinkin they are the enemy, they obviously punish u for that. the servers i was just playin in now know all about it since they have been countlessly punished already.

glitch 2:
i was running to kill someone with the special forces unlocked gun and he turned around and shot me once with some kind of gun, no nade/nade launcher, no sniper rifle. just a regular rifle or pistol. apparently others know about this too cause its happening a lot.

Heh pistols can kill you awfully damn quick. That's not a glitch. The red player glitch has always been around; it is nothing new.

He may have just gotten a lucky headshot.

I jumped from Lance Corporal to Staff Sergeant in one neutralize assist, capture assist, then ammo resupply. I also got the Chinese star ribbon.

Now instead of everyone being a Lance Corporal, Corporal, or Sergeant, they are all Staff Sergeant, Gunnery Sergeant, or Master Sergeant

Anyone have any tips on getting the basic knife combat badge?

Yeah so dont know if anyone is having similiar problems but after I installed the patch I can not play BF2. When I click on the icon the screen flickers and then it quits right back to the desktop. I have a 6800 and more than enough ram and processing speed. I updated video drivers and even reinstalled the game a few times. Any ideas? I have read rumors that EA/DICE fucked up again but I just want to fix it so I can play again. thanks

is anyone else getting this shit where you log into battlefield and it goes "A message from EA" and you can hit open or close, if you hit "Open" it says it needs to quit BF2 to go to a website, if you select OK then it closes BF2 and opens IE but goes to a website that cant load. What the fuck is that all about?

"or you could be very nice and pm/post a list of what to do and what not to do"

OK Ryan, just for sport, I'll start a list. Y'all feel free to add to this.

1. Always, always join a squad. That way, you can spawn with your squad leader. Choose him as your spawn point. Joining a squad also allows you to use your "secondary radio" to request things from your Commander, such as a supply drop or an artillery strike.

2. If you spot it, call it out - especially if you spot armor or aerial vehicles. If you really need help, call it out 3 times (but no more). You might want to map your mouse wheel's click to the main radio. This way, it only takes a split second to mouse wheel click and then left click to call out that you've spotted something. Spotting jets and helicopters is VERY valuable to those of us who spend a lot of time in the air; this way, we can glance at the map and know where to head to provide air-to-air support.

3. DO NOT attempt to fly an aerial vehicle in a full server until after you have practiced with it in an empty server. Don't be the guy who crashes the helicopter full of troops.

4. Know the strengths and weaknesses of each role. Know which role works well on which maps, and in which situations. Close quarters maps will need a lot of medics. I'd strongly suggest you learn how to be a good medic first. Good medics are truly appreciated. Read this, it's pretty thorough beginner's guide. http://db.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/battlefield_2_medic.txt

5. Do NOT punish for accidental teamkills. This includes driving over friendly mines. If you are certain the person is intentionally teamkilling, then by all means punish them. Explain to your team what they are doing if you decide a kick vote is in order. Don't just count on your teammates to blindly trust your reasoning for voting, or they won't vote.

6. Check the map frequently. See where the "hotspots" are and provide appropriate help if you can.

7. The secondary weapons in the helicopters (Hellfires) and fighter bombers (laser-guided missiles) are absolutely devastating. Use them whenever you get a chance! I recently saw my copilot launch a single missile from our fighter bomber, and he took out THREE vehicles (tank, APC, and jeep) with only one shot. I was stunned by this since it's so seldom that you see a truly good secondary weapons copilot.

8. ALWAYS aim for the head if possible. Classes such as Assault and Support have body armor which enables them to take several more hits. Headshots don't completely negate armor, but they certainly do hurt a lot more.

9. For the love of GOD, avoid all red skull and crossbones markers when you're in a vehicle. Always try to watch where you're driving. If you see something which looks like a mine, it probably is - the OTHER TEAM'S mine. Stupid engineers place mines in really obvious places. Smart ones put them where they are almost unavoidable.

10. If you can catch someone completely unaware (i.e. a sniper), kill them with the knife. Don't waste ammo with your gun. The knife is quick and quiet.

11. If, while climbing a ladder, slow down and peek just before you reach the top. If you should happen to see a red skull and crossbones at the top, DON'T keep on climbing. There's a claymore up there. Duh.

12. The shotgun is completely worthless (i.e. no one-shot kills) at a distance of any more than 15 feet. Up close, though, it's my personal favorite. I think I have more shotgun kills than any other non-vehicle weapon.

13. Armored vehicles have more armor in the front than the rear. When anti-tanking, aim for the rear. When driving a tank, always keep your nose towards incoming fire.

More coming as they occur to me...

Before you spawn, hit the tab button that says squads that is located to the left of the kits tab. Take a look at the different squads there and hit join, or just make your own.

The default is the Caps Lock key. This will let you access the Commander's Map as well as the squad management screen. You'll see buttons for "Join" or "Create." If you are joining a squad, look at the symbols to see which roles are currently being performed. If it's a really good squad, it'll be pretty balanced. Squads can always use a good medic, by the way. Let the squad do the bulk of the heavy combat while you keep them all alive. Damn good way to support the team since you prevent ticket loss every time you revive someone.

Hahaha I just played a few rounds in a pistols & knives only server, it was pretty fun. I got like 40 points from revive/heal alone. It was nice, there were very few TK's, all were accidental, and nobody punished. Nobody was really trying to capture any flags, it was mostly just a big clusterfuck of everyone in the server running around in the middle of the map with knives, pistols, or shock paddles out. I also got my basic knife and good conduct awards.

if youre assualt class with an upgraded gun, they go down very very quickly even if you aim at the chest

^Yeah, that is true. If you are support, don't aim for the head though. The accuracy is very low and the head is too small.

I love the DAO-12 unlock. Breezer is right, it's the best gun in the game. You can take out hordes of people with it. It's the ultimate Rambo gun. Big clip, damage spread is wide, and it will fire as fast as you can click (which is faster than a rifle on full-auto).

I got 3 new unlocks so I did the PKM, DAO-12, and G36C. Those are pretty much the only kits I use anyway.

I've noticed since the patch that it's easier to get hurt by falling. I slid down a little incline and lost half my health. It's kind of silly that a trained soldier would be half way near death after a little fall.

want to know my gripe with the patch??

I have downloaded it twice - applied it numerous times - it always says it is finished - the game never actually gets updated.

Reinstalled game - repeat - no update to it... best patch ever

^^ if they are too far away you just switch to pistol and pop off a few shots. The pistols are really accurate at range in this game, you can easily snipe with them.

anyone notice that the new AA missiles from the ground stations are absolutely horrible? i can't even hit a hovering helicopter barely anymore, even though they don't hit x. it gets close to them, then just shoots off right before it hits them.

Thought of a few more this morning.

14. If you run out of ammo in your weapon while engaged in CQB, don't just sit there and wait for it to reload while dodging. Switch to your handgun and keep shooting while attempting to close the distance. Every so often, you can win a gunfight like this if you move fast enough.

15. Learn to recognize uniforms at a glance. Look for color patterns and equipment. Sometimes you may see a glitch whereby a friendly soldier may appear red. Don't shoot 'em!

16. If you plan to be a passenger (not a gunner) in a transport helicopter, have your wrench out and be ready to do repairs as the helicopter takes fire.

17. Don't forget that the wrench can also be used to disarm AV land mines. However, make sure the Engineer who dropped it isn't still close by when you get out of your ride to disarm it. I've had some of my funniest kills EVER this way.

18. If, as an Engineer, you engage a land vehicle (especially a tank or APC) on foot, start throwing mines in the path of the vehicle. They might get you first, but you can often reach from beyond the grave and get them back when they keep on coming your way and roll over your mine.

19. It takes 2 blocks of C-4 to destroy a full-health tank or APC.

20. Many vehicles will catch on fire after taking enough damage. This fire will quickly eat away at the health of the vehicle and will destroy it. If you make it out of a vehicular engagement by the skin on your teeth, check to make sure that your ride isn't on fire and quickly depleting its health.

21. As the Commander, ALWAYS use the zoom function on the map before selecting where you want to drop supplies. Don't leave a crate hanging off the side of a building.

22. Dropping supplies directly beside a damaged asset (i.e. artillery or radar) will repair that asset.

23. Don't forget that you can pick up kits off of dead bodies. This is especially useful for picking up Medic kits, healing yourself, and then picking up your original kit.

24. NEVER stand around on the aircraft carrier. They are nicknamed "bomb magnets" for a reason. Get in a ride and get off of it, or spawn somewhere else.

25. If you fly with a joystick, map the different viewpoint buttons to the hat. This is extremely beneficial in that you can watch your back (rear) and also watch where the other guy goes (flyby) if you lose him.

I'm helping run a tourney right now. We have 3-5 hour battles twice a week (Sat/Sun), 4 dedicated servers (including a ranked on), TS servers, etc. This is our first run campaign, so we're still building a player base. You commit whatever time you can and have fun. We invite clans to bring as many people as they want with the understanding they fall under the army structures.

Anyway, you can find out a lot more at http://www.fightforthefuture.us. The staff and I have been gaming together in tourneys for over a year and decided to do things right by starting our own.

It is absolutely free to join, free to play...IT'S FREE! We have a sponsorship that takes care of all of our expenses.
