Well, after a month long trip across the country, here's a few of my favorite pics. Between 4 of us, we snapped about 5,000. All but 1 of the pics were shot with the RebelXT and kit lens.


Taken out the window at 80mph in Washington state. Minimal post processing.

Thanks! Just to note, in shot of Crater Lake, the reflections in the middle of the water aren't really reflections. The water is so crystal clear that you can see to the bottom. It's the peaks of hills underneath. At it's deepest point, the lake 1,949 ft.

well i'm not sure how it works for full resolution pictures being posted. but it really works well. its not space, its upload bandwidth... i use the uploader on my computer and i can fit much much more than 20 mb in a month

What are you getting at?

I uploaded a few pics, and voila, 75% of my upload quota was gone like that. I should have paid attention to the size of my pics, it's true, but it's gay to have the upload limit at all, imo. I'll just use all the space from my various google pages
I would like to have them all in one place, and I guess I could use image shack...but I don't really want to.

25 dollars for flickr... you get unlimited uploads if i remember correctly. and if you upload it at a small resolution like image shack and google pages would do... then boom, you can upload alot

Anyone know if there are any firefox extensions/addons that will allow you to right-click a picture and view it's exif data? No results with the firefox site search. The only way that strikes me right now is to save it first and then view it.

i've used them... just got one...gets ya reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal close. no more metering...

but you do atleast get all of the sharpness of the glass you are using. i use my old manual 50mm 1.8 with it.

D lens? or does it have the aperture ring on the lens... if it has the aperture ring... thats what ya need. it should work fairly well.

yesterday on a boat tryin' to get my game on, hoisting the sails:


the specs for the moon shot above are:

focal length: 200mm
f-stop: 5.6
exposure time: 1/50 second

and yah, docido: i am borrowing an even crustier tripod than normal this week, but no, still haven't bought a more decent one. that was pretty much handheld, as is the one below, haha:

i think this one was slightly faster, but the same focal length and f-stop

I never knew tripods were so expensive - Tony just lets me use his which is in great condition, but when I got a monopod last fall that was about $20! I do suggest you invest the money, though; once I learned how to use it efficiently it paid off in so many ways. Even shooting deer, I just mount the camera and sit back to wait. Once they come into their regular area I'm all set to go. I don't have the one with the rotating ball-head unfortunately, but I hear that's much quicker to adjust.

You can easily spend 500+ dollars on tripod legs, which doesn't even include a ballhead of any type. Anything in photography can get expensive.

For example, the Gitzo monopod I want is around 400 bucks.

there are some "inexpensive" sturdy ones. not nearly as sturdy as the high end ones... but i got my tripod for like 40 bucks i think...the thing is built like a blasted rock... metal top and quick release.

^^^Ewww, Quantaray. I got that shit for x-mas last year and took it back. I didn't feel confident with it supporting my 70-200mm. The best combo of price/stability I found in Raleigh was actually at Best Buy with the Sunpak 7500. That's one sturdy beast. http://www.adorama.com/SU7500P.html It's around $80

The one I have is aluminum and was worth $70 back in '85. Very lightweight, dependible head and levers, sturdy as fuck.

^^^Yep, same one. What is that, a sigma 15-30? I grew outta Sigma a long time ago, haha Naw, they make some good lenses, but Canon is far superior. Yeah, it's a 2.8L lens. With that lens sticking way out, it has a lot more leverage to pull down on a tripod and I didn't like putting it on that flimsey stick of a tripod. The way you have to use that arm that goes up/down to get a decent height really turned me off to that tripod. Mine is over 70" tall and I don't even need to use the up/down arm at standing height.

yeah, there's a good harvest gold moon out tonight.

Come out to Lake Raleigh to take shots, or the Farmer's Market. It's reasonably dark in those areas.
