I'm not trying to put words in anyones mouth, competitive is competitive. Sendek got 10 years, least you could do is give the starting pg of our 83 championship 5. Hell, who else are we going to get to coach here.

Sendek started with monkey shit. Lowe started with a team that made 5 NCAAs in a row.

We're back to monkey shit but with better players than Sendek ever had. I'm done with Lowe. Fire his ass.

^ Thank you, yea, he made 5 ncaa's in a row, brav fucking row, he left us with no true PG other than atsur, who is gone, and like Ive said before, a bunch of 6'8" guys who like to shoot 3's. If players dont buy into a different system, whos to blame, them or the coach?

^ It's not laughable at all.

We're on the verge of three straight losing seasons.

That's unacceptable. He hasn't shown the ability to recruit well yet either. If he doesn't land anyone for the '09 class then we need to start looking elsewhere.

There is no sense in waiting until the cupboard is bare and the program is run into the ground.

We look like a longshot to make the NCAA tournament. We're right on pace to go 7-9 in the conference, which clearly won't be good enough.

9-7 is our absolute ceiling.

I will give credit to Sidney for getting things turned around and not completely mailing in the season, but it looks like we've dug too big of a hole to climb out of.

This season is a solid C- for Sidney so far. If he can put together a miracle and get us to 9-7 or even a mini miracle and get us to 8-8 I'd be willing to re-evaluate, but the fact is a lot of talent has been squandered thus far.

I was all for giving Lowe all the chances in the world.

But here's where we stand right now....realistically, we might win 1 more game this year (FSU @ home). We will end up 5-11 in the ACC. Sad as it is to say it, we might need 1 or 2 ACCT wins to limp into the NIT.

You guys think this team is bad now. Wait till Fells and Hickson leave this sinking ship called a basketball program. If that happens, next year will be as bad as the Les Robinson years.

I'm glad Herb is at ASU as the fanbase and the program needed a change. You should probably be fair, though. How is it the former coach's job to hold on to the PG recruit he had? Shouldn't that fall to the new staff to close commits who had already verballed? If Chris Wright is here (and yes his #'s aren't great for G'Town but that is b/c they don't need to be) then we are probably not asking these questions of Lowe. On top of that we had pretty good leads on Jamelle McMillan (who Lowe didn't even CONTACT from what I've read -- that is rumor of course) and Jai Lucas for awhile.

Also, I think McCauley and Grant would take exception to the 6'8" guys who like to shoot 3's crack. The truth is the talent is there to compete and make the NCAA Tourney. In fact Grant and Fells were rumored to be downright giddy they weren't going to be in the old "system."

I don't actually think most people are calling for Lowe's head. It's just calling a spade a spade. His team has VASTLY underperformed this year.

--- also, was there any reason that Smith hasn't played since he was the best player on the floor versus Clemson? I mean it's not like we are protecting a redshirt. Why not try to shake things up a bit? It's not like McCauley or Costner are killing it..

Watching UVa and Boston College game right now...

And BC is horrible with the exception of Rice. No way we should be at BC's level right now...let alone lose to them. I mean...UVa is about to beat them at home.

It's already been pointed out.... but LOL

You have to think Simmons and Brackman had a little to do with that...neither of them returned the next year.

I'm witholding judgement until Sid gets his players. Even if the players you already have are super talented, it's hard to win with them if they don't fit what you want to do on the court. Ask Mike Kryzewho493kw?_+ski at Duke

Our team just looks lazy. Luckily, two of the four that look like they're trying out there were recruited by Sid

And yet Herb leaves and takes a bottom dweller and makes them competative w/o his players.

Sid comes here and takes a competative team and makes them bottom dwellers.

This is a quote from Lowe after the BC debacle. What the hell!?!?!?!?! After 24 games? You finally start coaching after 24 games? Where was this after the NO loss?

I dunno, maybe he's too used to having to baby players in the nba with huge egos, these college kids need to know from the beginning that they're going to earn every minute on the floor

it feels like he keeps giving players all of these second and third chances to prove themselves, maybe they do better in practice to keep getting time, it seems like now that we've got some bench, players that are blatantly underperforming should sit more than they do

We really need to start showing some progress. With Wake's incoming class plus how young they are right now they are primed to GRAB that 3rd best in the state away from us like we never had a chance.

Wake has some sick recruits this year they will be a force and we will be the 4th best team in the state. C. Fells ain't leaving, i want to see some proof of this before i believe it. Hickson probably will leave and Grants gone, but maybe with Hickson gone we can get the old Brandon Costner back? He was the best freshman in the league last year so I wouldn't mind having him back...with him and Fells, and McCauley as a senior then we'll have a solid 3 man core. Javi'll have another year of experience, and the bigs that are having to sit the bench this year will get to see the court, i.e. Tracy Smith. Tracy Smith is a solid player. Also if Julius Mays can contribute at the 2 or the 1 we'll have some depth there, esp. depth at the 2, which we really need. Farnold and Javi will be two serviceable point gaurds. So lets not right us off just yet.

I am giving TOB and Sidney Lowe 3 years each before I make any calls for their head...

He SUCKS SOO MUCH!
all of teams are near the bottom of the ACC, you think the athletics director would have to be responsible for some of it. If he keeps making shitty hires, then why do we keep letting him stick around. Forget about Sidney Lowe, he'll get there just give him another year (3 years b4 you can call for someones head in my opinion). BUT FIRE LEE FOWLER!!!

I can't believe Wake is a better team than we are right now. That is fucking ridiculous. Skip Prosser has put together some shitty recruiting classes, then dies and leaves them with a shitty college coach...and they are somehow better than us this year?? And yeah we beat them...but barely at home.

I would say next year especially if we keep everyone but Grant...Sid still takes heat whether anyone wanted the job or not. And once again there is a reason nobody wanted this job. See Sendek, Herb being run out. Yes we were competitive maybe not as much as some wanted but who doesn't want to see their team be a top 10 program yearly? To say Herb was a middle of the ACC coach is just wrong. I am not so pissed that Herb is gone, but mainly that we couldn't get a good coach to take over and build on what he started.

that's a little more accurate. if we had hired an agent like we did for football, we wouldn't have been embarassed so many times before Sidney finally felt so bad for us that he quit his NBA job and took a risk coaching college. we may not have been better off but we certainly couldn't have been worse.

damn people.

the guy won a national champship for the school,
has had 1 true year to recruit,
and lost his starting PG (our weakest position on the team) early in the season,
and had 1 of his key players go cheeseburger-itis on us.

i'd still give him 5 years at worst. b/c this guy has 1 thing no agent can bye, a heart and emotion for this school to win. (no herb)

sorry we can't compete with Duke and UNC, but last I checked we haven't done that in at least 15 years.

nah--2 mediocre seasons , with this season having the potential to be worse than the last

Gavin seems pretty humble this year after every game, whether we win or lose

wonder if he finally realizes how good it was when Herb was here and realizes that he just has to suck it up and deal with however the season turns out since this is originally what he wanted...

herb at least had a plan that allowed for winning

not many people enjoyed the plan...but it worked and you can't deny that

You absolutely have to give him at least two years before you can expect ANYTHING. I just looked at Ben Howland's career stats, and he's had 1 NCAA appearance in his first two years as coach of three different teams. The next two years with those teams, he won the conference 5 out of 6 times, had 4 sweet 16's, two Final Four's, and a Finals appearance. This year isn't so bad either.... If Sid doesn't improve fairly drastically in 08-09, I see him gone.

*Preface this post by saying I'm mentioning Herb not to compare him to Sidney, but to explain what we want in a coach right now...cause the comparing of Herb and Sidney needs to stop.

For people saying we need to give Sid at least 5 years...please STFU.

We ran Herb out of town for one reason...we didn't think he could get us to the next level. So the next coach we bring in better damn well get us to that next level, and we shouldn't need ten years to see if he can do it.

When our last coach got here, our program was in shambles. High school basketball recruits didn't give a fuck who NC State was and we had the ACC play-in game named after our former head coach for god-sakes. We had a long way to go...and unless you were a "name" coach (like a Pitino for example) you weren't going to be able to come in and sign top-10 recruiting classes and get the program turned around in a few years.

So we got a coach and slowly but surely we righted the ship. Then we basically hit a wall and we decided it was time to make a change to get to the next level. Our program was starting to get recognition, we were getting in McDAAs, we had a couple players drafted, we made a few splashes in the NCAA tourney...things were looking good.

We laid an egg during the regular season last year. I personally don't really think that was a bad coaching job...it wasn't good...but Sid had a lot going against him (scholly numbers, injuries, etc.)...so you can't blame him for that. Then during the ACC tourney we saw what kind of talent we had. Costner is an All-ACC caliber player, McCauley was great, Grant and Fells could beat defenders off the dribble, even Horner was solid off the bench. We then sign one of the best big men in high school...and things are looking good for next year.

Fast-forward to this year and we are one of the worst teams in the ACC (if not the worst). You can throw out all of the excuses you want (Costner is lazy and fat, injury to one our point guards, team chemistry is fucked up with Hickson playing, etc.)...but the bottom line is that it all comes back to the coach. If you can't motivate Costner to play hard or stay in shape, then don't play his ass. You've got two of the best point guards in NC State history on your bench...put a fucking serviceable point guard on the floor. And to say our options were limited in recruiting a point guard...well I say maybe the coaches should have evaluated the options a little better...I think we could have found a better PG than Javi out there who would have wanted to play in the ACC for two former excellent collegiate point guards.

Bottom-line:

Its past mid-terms and the coaching staff is sitting on a D as a grade right now. Does that mean we should kick them out of school now? Hell no. Does it mean we should be concerned?? Hell yes. Do we fire Sid if he finishes with a D this year? Hell no again. But if he gets another D next year, or gets a couple C's in a row...then we need to move on. Fuck loyalty...we showed too much loyalty to Chuck. If you couldn't figure out that he couldn't coach three years ago, then you and Lee Fowler need to go out and start a business of your own. Our basketball program had built itself back up to a level of respectability, and we don't need to let it drop down again...because it's tough road back. We don't need to waste more than 4 or 5 years just to see if Sidney can coach.

If we're not a top 3/4 (mostly top 3), by the time Sidney's fith year rolls around...then cut him loose.

Long but good post..... if this season happens in 08-09 you've gotta cut ties imo. The next coach is going to have 2 "rebuilding" years ahead of him as well. This could be bad for a while. The next three years of the bball program hinge on 08-09.

so for all the people saying to go ahead and get rid of Sid

who do we hire? or do we become the laughing stock of the nation AGAIN by having a month long coaching search...and I'm sure we'd really have great luck finding a good coach to bring in...I'm sure any big time coach would love to go to a school where you only get two years before you're fired...thats a great way to run your program

so you people want to get rid of a coach before he has HIS players in HIS system.
remember. the only kids that HIS players are only Freshman

so saying 4-5 years is too long to see how things pan out is bullshit. Coach is still learning the college game and he is going to mistakes along the way

i wish some of our fans would go play in the middle of I-40 tonight between 5 and 6pm
