it is entirely possible given scant evidence that Desmond was killed, but I doubt it as well.

Mrs. Faraday told desmond (2-3 seasons ago? - wedding ring episode) that he was uniquely important and that without him "we will all die".

I think he has something to do with Faraday not being on the island - he was his "connection" when lost in time....

Cassidy knew Kate and Sawyer before the island, Kate didn't know Sawyer at that point. Cassidy didn't know that Kate knew Sawyer until this episode just now when Kate went to see her
