I never watched ASU play during the year, but I think it's commendable that they did as well as they did while their star player completely disappeared.

yeah, comparably speaking, imagine if Atsur would have been out/non-existent during State's NIT run in '06-07

Arizona advances to the Sweet Sixteen while ASU loses in the second round, a glorious day of basketball as far as I'm concerned

Nobody is saying that, but Lowe being a shitty coach doesn't make Herb a great one

Tough loss today, Pendergraph's second half absence really hurt as did the wiggers' timely 3 point shooting. But all in all a very good year, expecting good things to continue next year.

I think its funny that many of you see: TreeTwista10 feel the need to come in here and post shit. But in reality if it was us in ASU's place today it would have been OMG SIDNEY LOST TO SYRACUSE AND A TOP FIVE COACH OF ALL TIME WHO'S WON IT ALL.

Yeah I thought they would get to the Elite 8, but maybe that was a stretch for the Sun Devils in their first postseason appearance with Herb. There's things that can be improved but there's also plenty of this team and Herb to be proud of. He took a sad and worthless program and made them nationally relevant.

No, because we all went to NC State, not Arizona State, so who gives a fuck about ASU's place today, why don't you take your NCSU degree and put it on the ground and take a steaming shit on it cause thats basically what you're figuratively doing already.

I post shit for all the dick brains in here to point out the reason that true State fans like myself don't miss Herb, but apparently you haven't been paying attention to enough of his predictable collapses and meltdowns.

As will all of the others in this thread.

You are the main one comparing them.

I don't compare them. I just defend Herb. I want Lowe to succeed. What he and Lowe do are independent of each other now.

give me a fucking break

the only reason i even get upset is because a bunch of other people LIKE YOU want to compare herb's program to lowe's program, the state of the program when herb took over compared to the state of the program that lowe took over, where herb is now compared to where we are now with lowe, etc

don't you try and tell me i'm the main one comparing them

if bandwagon people like you didn't measure lowe by sendek then stupid ass threads like this wouldn't exist, but no, blame it on me

I do not compare Lowe to Herb much like I don't compare him to Gaudio, Roy, K, whatever.

I compare Lowe to Lowe. My mixed feelings about Lowe have nothing to do with Herb. NOTHING.

How can you say that when you often bring up Lowe's lack of success by comparing it to Herb's 5 straight tourney appearances, or when you say things like you'd take a 2nd round NCAA exit over where we are now...how can you say stuff like that then claim you're not comparing them?

The only reason most of the people who are overly-critical of Lowe are that critical are because they are comparing his lack of post-season success with Herb's mild postseason success

Find one post in this thread where I compare Herb to Sidney or say any of that you just mentioned.

lulz, maybe?

also, here's yet another shot at State from the local media (big fucking surprise):
In Case Wolfpack Fans Forgot, Arizona State Was In The Tournament
Quote :
"and NC State was not. Despite a bed-wetting in the PAC-10 Championship game and another early exit from the NCAA Tournament, the legend of Herb Sendek grows. No story about the Sun Devils is complete without some reference to Sendek’s backstory and how the Wolfpack have taken huge steps backwards. The best recycled talking point, which came up on the air today with Andy Staples of Sports Illustrated, is that Sendek took NC State to 5 straight NCAA Tournament appearances. The way it gets presented by writers and talking heads, you’d think UCLA’s run under John Wooden paled in comparison.

Even Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim took a shot at the NC State piñata before the Orange bounced Sendek’s squad. After another rehash of how Sendek ended up at Arizona State, Boeheim viewed the end result with a biting “I thought somebody was pretty stupid and somebody was pretty smart.”

Reading that quote gave me what alcoholics call a moment of clarity. What was the source of this unbreakable bond between two entities that were not meant to coexist? Wolfpack fans are over it, and Sendek is too classy to even throw in veiled references. What keeps this alive? It’s simple — coaches. Sendek is incredibly well liked by his peers, and it’s obvious those coaches view NC State as a joke when the smoke cleared. And where do you think the national guys get their cue?"

http://www.850thebuzz.com/blog/?p=8664

just because a coach says something doesn't mean the media has to replay it and make a big fucking deal out of it...way to keep pouring salt in our wounds Joe Ovies, thank god we won't have to hear this same bullshit anymore for at least a couple of months

it is not at all surprising that coaches feel like herb sendek was doing just a peachy job here.

although the fact that jim boeheim is talking about herb being a good coach is laughable when boeheim matched herb's most successful postseason 3 times in his first 4 years at syracuse.

^yeah I knew Ovies was a State grad, but he still takes shots at us on his blog...and frankly from many of the videos they post on the blog it seems like he is more of a Miami fan than a State fan (at least during football season).

hey, if a local sports blogger says it's true it must be right? I'm not really in the mood to keep arguing about Sean Miller and whether or not he got butthurt by how Herb was treated anymore, it seems like a moot point anyways.

^it's a good thing that didn't happen

We all know Lee Fowler would prepare a 10 minute video montage to be played before the State-UVA game at the RBC. Picture it in your head.

"For 10 years, Hall of Fame bound coach Herb Sendek roamed the sidelines in Raleigh. Amassing a (insert numbers here) record, he carried on the great tradition of NC State basketball. Loved by his fans just as Jim Valvano, Norm Sloan, and Everret Case were before him, Herb Sendek elevated NC State basketball to heights previously unknown."
