Good 60 minute effort tonight by the team.

Unfortunately it was also a good lesson in what happens when you make a number of boneheaded mistakes against Crosby and Co (and have some pretty piss poor goaltending).

There were also a couple of slam dunks chances that should have been buried, notably Staal's when Samsonov found him all alone cruising through the slot in the third period and he beat Sabourin and couldn't lift the puck over his leg.

Although, I was very impressed that we decided to actual pass the puck and control it during the first, oh, 9 minutes of the game. That was an improvement from the passing as of late. The effort was there for a good part of the game.

I was at the Pens game the other night and....

1.) Leighton might be the worst goalie in the nhl...
2.) Staal gives up to easily
3.) The only players who came out and skated hard all night were Ruutu, Williams, Bayda, Sutter, and Samsonov.

How are we supposed to win games with the nhl's worst goalie and only 5 skaters playing seriously?
This is bullshit...I hope this coaching change can bring a change of attitude, and I hope we consider making a move for a new goalie.

Bottom line: Canes do not make it back to the playoffs with Leighton or Ward in goal...Ever.

^woooooah. ward before he was injured was playing GREAT. without him in the away philly game we don't win. he has kept us in the game many many times this year. leighton had a bad night last night, yes, but he has shown he can play in some other games. ward is still a better goalie, however.

^^As for Ward...fine, perhaps I went a bit too far, but I would still be interested in entertaining a trade for another goalie...similar to what Washington did at the trade deadline last year. If we could do it w/o having to package Ward in that deal that would be great...I would love to use Ward in a two goalie system.

Down the stretch Ward has a tendency to play just good enough to disappoint.

Ward is our team MVP. Without him, we'd be at the bottom of the conference. With the way our defense plays, you can't ask much more out of a goalie.
