Went to apple store and tried out some of the apps and games they have on the demo units. This shit is bad ass, the store experience is bad ass, and the seemingly non-hipster people in the store were liking what they saw.
It's going to sell millions. I don't even know where I would begin to check out alternatives that are as compelling. Good games, great browsing, excellent polish, high-quality apps = winner 4/9/2010 10:28:46 PM |

going back to ATL tomorrow so I have to leave the iPad with dad and its not rad, makes me sad.
anyways... think I will get a 3G model... trying to decide what size to get, leaning towards 16GB as I have 56GB of music on my HD so I cant have that on there anyways. Any thoughts/ideas/shit I havent considered? 4/11/2010 2:19:30 AM |

You could fit 56 gigs of music on a 64 gig iPad for $830. I preordered a 32gig 3G and will be selling my current 32gig wifi to my sister. I have less than half of my 8gb iPhone filled up so I don't have the need for an extra 32 gigs, I doubt I'd even fill this up. 4/11/2010 4:31:44 AM |

^^If you have that much music and you are going to get a 3G model or can manage to always keep a Wi-Fi connection, then just use Ampache http://ampache.org/ with iAmpache http://iampache.com/ (or Hamachi/some VPN if it's even possible?) to stream your MP3s from your home computer to your iPad wherever you are. Obviously keep a good chunk ON your iPad in case you don't have a connection, but it saves you from needing to pay for the $alaska model.
Problem solved.

I just noticed the screen had a shift in color from browsing TWW on it....it's noticeable since there are a lot of horizontal gray bars.
I pulled up a screen uniformity test just to make sure I wasn't crazy http://tapplox.com/imac-led3.html
Small problem, I know. Trying to decide if worth a swap!

^^^because 10+ hours of video isn't enough? because you swap batteries out now? Wait, got it. Just because you need something to bitch about, right? Because you'd rather spend $130 on a new battery so that you can replace it when it goes bad instead of spending $100 and getting a new iPad?
I use USB at home about once a week. That's how often I do my back-ups. I'm not quite sure what I'd use USB for on an iPad. Mouse? Keyboard? printer? Thumb drive? The only reason that anyone would need a usb slot that I can imagine is for a camera and 90% of people would NEVER USE IT! This isn't Windows or OSX where you're going to be hooking things into it. It's iPhone OS and there's no point or use for USB outside of a camera. That's why Apple sells the Camera Connection kit. Could they have included it? Yeah. Is it remotely needed? Hell no.

Actually I only use USB ports on my computer to sync my iPhone/iPad and hook up my logitech G9x mouse. I don't use flash drives anymore even though i got a bunch sitting in my desk drawer. The only time I use flash drives if someone gives me one to use for them. The reason I don't use them is because of services like Dropbox and MobileMe.
i can acces these files anywhere/everywhere on any of my devices. I can also use it to share files easier than trading physical media.
This is just me though which is why I don't care for a USB port.4/11/2010 8:00:00 PM |

I'm the same way. Since I started using Dropbox and Evernote, I quit needing a thumb drive. Most of the people that the iPad is geared toward aren't going to care about USB. I think the only people that are going to care are the people that just want a reason to hate Apple and/or the iPad. Anyone who actually thinks about it for 5 seconds should realize that it's nearly pointless on this device. 4/11/2010 8:40:39 PM |

some folks just like that flexibility. but in fairness, it'd mean Apple having to either write a bunch of drivers, or open the hardware API to third parties, just when they're trying to force people into using Apple frameworks. considering how shitty some hardware drivers can be, I can't see Apple being willing to sacrifice the stability of the device's OS just to let someone plug a camera in. 4/11/2010 8:42:55 PM |

You could get a joojoo. I mean, that comes with a user replaceable battery. Which is good since it only gets 3 hours of battery life. And you'll be happy to know it has a USB port, that's only good for charging... And because the viewing angles are shallower, you can be sure no one will be peaking over your shoulder to see that porn you're watching. And since you have to reboot every once in a while to get the keyboard to work again, you can be sure no apps will hang in the background and suck down your performance. And you have of course you have flash support, never mind that its performance sucks so bad that they built in a hack to let you use the H.264 version of youtube, and you'll need to avoid all flash entirely to even get close to the 5 hour batter life that they claim you should get (sounds exactly like the reasons that a certain other tablet producing company decided not to support flash...) And at 2.4 pounds, you'll be able to fend off the hoards of disgruntled iPad owners jealous of your tablet with a USB port and user replaceable battery... that is, if any of them actually stopped using their iPads long enough to give a shit.

Fusion Garage, who developed the JooJoo, has never made anything before.
If you want to get technical about the manufacturer, that's CSL Group, a Malaysian company that seemingly makes knockoff Blackberrys.

The JooJoo is not the only one that sucks but I see your point. We don't want Apple to have an unfair advantage over other manufacturers since they're already known for making stellar products.
So we should hold such manufacturers at a lower standard.

Quote : | "Jobs' most recent dismissive missive came in response to an email sent by the developer of iPad apps formerly named journalPad and journalPad: Bible Study Editon, but now - following the dictates of Apple's App Store Police - renamed journal.APP and bibleStudy.APP.
The dev, Chris Ostmo, tells 9to5Mac that he sent an email to Jobs noting that his company had spent "tens of thousands of dollars" marketing its apps and that changing the apps' names would require him "to spend to spend tens of thousands of dollars more to market new names."
This sort of sudden policy change is the kind of thing that is destroying Apple's relationship with developers. Small companies like ours cannot continue to take financial blows like that and justify remaining on the iPhone/Pod/Pad platform.
Jobs's response: "Its just common sense to not use another company's trademarks in your app name."" |

While he does have a point there...it would make a big difference if said apps existed BEFORE the iPad was a registered trademark.
Also, this one is up for debate by trademark attorneys. If its used in conjunction with another word is it really infringement? not to mention isn't it iPad and not just Pad thats trademarked?

Supply issues with the iPad have pushed back the international release until the end of May.
Reason being that the demand in the US was underestimated. Over 500,000 units sold. The record for an eBay iPad sale is ~$5250 to some (now poor) bloke in the UK.
