i drink beer to get calories for the day. i'm sure it has a negligible impact on any gains/losses.

i managed 200g of protein yesterday dang shrimp have a lot of protein!

i had 1 beer yesterday & 1 beer today. both totally unavoidable but i was able to limit it to one. i have survived 3 restaurants in the past 2 days & have managed to continue my insanity routine & mostly maintain my diet.

my bf is visiting which has made it a little more tricky to keep on my diet schedule but i will give him props for making me breakfast this morning & measuring out my portions like i would have done & also stopping at walmart to get a snack with me since i had no snacks handy & lunch with his dad was 2-3 hours away. i got an apple and greek yogurt instead of the "easy" route of fast food junk or just waiting & being too hungry to control myself

still holding steady at 129.5 from 131, dipped to 129 on sunday but given my challenges the past 2 days, i'll take .5 gain & it'll be 128 or 128.5 by next weekend!

im maintaining a calorie deficit but not big enough to make the 1lb a week loss so i need to step that up a little to keep a better clip of weight loss, or just ride my bike more often since i can torch 1000 calories no problem on that sucker

Joie, I'm the same way. I can be 146 one day, 150 the next, 148 the next, 147 the next.

It's almost never consistent.

i measure my weight week to week. not only does that help with the daily fluctuations, but it also helps when setting some weekly short term goals.

plus you dont get caught up as easily in the number

i kicked ass on my food stuff today

under on calories/fat/cholesterol/sodium/carbs

over on sugar <--- really need to work on that one!

slightly over on fiber and wicked over on protein (but they only recommend 35 for my diet, and i was at 102... so more in the range that i should be in for my activity level - i think)

^you need to teach me how to consistently eat more than 2000 cals/day, I've scared myself out of doing it...I know I can't/shouldn't diet long periods of time at very low intake...I'm better off eating ~2400/day not 1500 but I can't seem to willpower myself to it for fear of gaining fat

I want someone to be honest with me - tell me if I just gained stuff back or if I'm all bloated and stuff from the way I ate this weekend

my waist stayed the same but my tummy area went up in size by an inch! I have felt pretty awful the past few days so I'm not sure what's going on... I would have to eat an insane amount to gain an inch of fat back, right? Saturday was my worst day, probably 2500-3000 calories once you add up all the yummy food and beer >.< Sunday wasn't terrible, but I was probably around 2000-2500........ Blah

Don't forget rule #4!

Also, this is why I say people should focus on fitness goals rather than body composition goals. Stress has a detrimental affect on your body. If you focus on times when you "feel bloated" or "gain an inch or a pound" then you're never going to go anywhere.

If you like running, for example, then instead of making your goal to lose a dress size or 10 pounds, make it to lower your 3 mile time from 30 minutes down to 25 minutes. It will take your mind off your body, and once you finish hitting that fitness goal, I'm quite sure that you'll notice you've also hit your weight loss target as well.

I know, but it's a little hard to be all bright eyed and bushy tailed about it when it took me a while to lose that inch

but I am going to be honest with myself and admit I ate like absolute crap this weekend so I guess if that's what it is, I'll just have to buckle down

god, you have a good point and a very logical one at that

unfortunately girls are not logical creatures when it comes to weight (ok and a bunch of other things too)

sam, something like 3500 calories = 1 lb (pros feel free to correct me, i know im close!) so to gain weight is not crazy esp if you know you were bad

are you tracking your calories with an online tool? since ive been doing it i really think about everything i eat much more than i did.

1 inch is a big gain-- when was the base measurement taken? i'd give it a couple days, drink a lot of water and focus on your macro goal and not lose focus. measure again in 5-7 days and see what happens

i'm the same way.... i tried weight watchers for a while, but the point things weren't helpful in really looking at what i was putting in my body. the dailyplate stuff breaks it all down and is AWESOME for helping me make sure that I'm getting the right thing in my body

It would have been a matter of three days or so to increase that inch. Which is why I'm all bummed out. I know 3500 cals = 1 lb but that's why I figured I'd ask someone if I'm even being rational... It was two days this weekend that caused the increase - last week I was eating fine and working out

I track my stuff using "Lose It" on my iPod.. it keeps me in check

(This weekend was our engagement party on Saturday, then Eric's niece's bday party/dinner at Outback on Sunday... hence all the bad for you food )

Quote :
"or just increase your exercise"

I do exercise. It was two days without doing any physical activity (besides typical walking around). I'm asking certain people (i.e., the personal trainers who read this) if they have seen such a weight gain (aka fat weight gain, not bloat or anything) from two days of eating bad .. I would rather someone give it to me straight who trains people all the time than refer to Google for my troubles

--

FTR, I'm not making excuses (because I have a feeling someone will bring that up). If that was the case, I wouldn't have lost this much already.

don't be so hard on yourself... this challenge is longer than two days. You can recover... No one is here to judge.

I had no choice but to eat some pizza and drink a beer last night (friends visit from out of town)... It looks like I gained a pound from that. Ok, so just keep following your plan and it will come back off. No biggie.

I've decided to enter this contest. Here's a pic I took after the gym yesterday

I want to get more mass in my arms, but not sure what other goals to make besides getting up to 200 while maintaining good physiche

I'm saying this proverbially,

The hardest force you have to overcome when trying to better yourself is you.

Your own limitations, your own fears, your own weaknesses.

You can run faster than you think you can. You can look better than you think you can. You can change.

You just have to believe it.

It does sound like you need to get better at making selections at restaurants/when you're tempted with bad food. Outback is a perfect example, because you're tempted by the Bloomin' Onion and cheese fries. They have some stuff on their menu that you can eat and not feel horrible about though.

The best thing to do is plan out your meal before going to the restaurant. http://www.outback.com/menu/nutritionselection.aspx

Probably not. You can't really weigh yourself the next day to see how much fat weight you gained. The day after is usually just food weight/sodium/whatever and it'll level out in a few days.

Question: When I do Romanian deadlifts, even light ones with dumbbells (25lbs), my hamstrings are shot the next day. They're usually coupled with squats or lunges, but pretty sure it's the deadlifts that make my hamstrings so tight. As in I can barely touch my toes. I stretch after I lift, but probably not as well as I should, because I never really learned how to stretch properly in relationship to what I've worked out. Is there a particular stretch I should be doing after those, or is it normal to just have super tight muscles the day after?

haha not for me! I have ZERO will power when it comes to food, but I can kick my own ass at the gym. example - one day I knew I was going to be going out drinking and eating greasy foods and fatty desserts, so over the course of the day I worked out about 4 hours (1hr strength and 3hrs cardio) and I still barely came out negative for my kcal balance. NOM NOM NOM.

I had steak and crab at Outback and I don't like bloomin onions... BUT after that I had cookies, homemade ice cream, cake, and more cookies at Emma's thing.. and I'm not even going to go into what I ate Saturday. :\

N E wayz... I just went to pee and realized I'm not as big as yesterday... so maybe I'm freaking out for nothing

And here we see where this article rings true!

http://www.stumptuous.com/honesty-is-the-best-policy

Quote :
"I’ve had people insist they were eating a perfect diet until we went through day by day, meal by meal and discovered forgotten Starbucks frappucinos, glasses of wine, 3 pm handfuls of jellybeans, inappropriate portion sizes, and a host of other mystery ingredients. “Exercising regularly” suddenly becomes “well, I did skip Thursday, and I guess I was booked that other evening so I didn’t go, and then there was that Doctor Who marathon on TV over the weekend that I couldn’t miss…” "

I'm not suggesting that you are saying you eat a perfect diet, but if you really get meticulous you might notice where this "enlarged tummy" is coming from!

I JUST SAID how I ate for two days straight.

I'm not going to try to justify myself to you -- I am being completely honest when I say I ate like a total lard ass this weekend. What more do you freaking want

Not to mention, I think some of my workouts would make the average person cry (thanks begonias) so I don't EVEN want to hear your stuff. You talk about encouraging others, you're only doing damage by being mean when I know I've been working hard and fell off the wagon for a few days.

Did I continue to eat like shit into this week? No. So leave me alone.

Dear Samwise16,

The only thing you're doing wrong is not coming to Lifestyle and saying "Hello" to Quinn and I. I think if you get back on that train, you'll notice a decrease is waist size and an increase in overall happiness.

Don't try that passive aggressive bullshit. You attacked her and tried to call her out more than she already did to herself.

This is a friendly "competition" meant to act as a support group, not some veiled flame fest for you to smack down on all the women under the pretense of "tough love".
