We had an infant tub and he hated it. Had a lip thing and he just wiggles way too much. Now I just use this...http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018ZVT4M/ref=s9_simh_gw_p75_d4_g75_i2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-4&pf_rd_r=1Z4MB7ZZD2JTW80G0QC3&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470939031&pf_rd_i=507846 in the bottom of the tub and fill it with a little water. Works SO much better.
Also, you can get a lot of good stuff on consignment. I don't know when you are due, but the kidseverywear consignment they just had is my favorite. I got his whole summer wardrobe for $80. 3/8/2012 9:31:37 PM |

Contractions kicked in big time at 5 cm, and that was at about 2 AM. Then, they gave her an epidural and ambien and she was out until about 8 AM, and the doctor came in and said that she was at 10 cm. They are just starting with the pushing now.
Girl next door though, is in some serious pain lots of screaming and belting out during the pushing. 3/9/2012 9:54:41 AM |

"super easy" means from the first twinge to birth will be like 1.5 hours. If you do have another one, be prepared to leave for the hospital early or you'll be delivering in the car. Also, if she wants an epidural it probably aint' happening. 3/13/2012 11:18:35 AM |

The pregnancy nasal congestion + allergies are about to kill me. My face feels like it's going to explode, nose runs like crazy, & now I'm coughing til I gag. Ughhhhh 3/14/2012 10:05:04 PM |

and nothing really helps it. i tried benedryl, but all it did was help me sleep and that was only early on. eventually, you get so big and uncomfortable that all you do is cat nap in weird places in weird positions.

i have soooooooooooo much sinus pressure. i tried sudafed but that hasn't helped at all. my nose will just all of a sudden start running like crazy & i'm having to keep tissues at arm's length bc otherwise there'd be a giant mess. sleeping tonight is going to be awesome 3/14/2012 10:42:06 PM |

i feel your pain. I used a Neti Pot, but it's really only temporary. It's sooooooooo tempting to use nose spray, but I don't recommend it unless you want to battle a beast. The relief is so immediate that you want to keep using it beyond the span of time it is meant for. 3/14/2012 10:52:22 PM |

okay i'm thinking this is not allergies. my cough is less frequent but much thicker. still have a lot of sinus pressure, but i also now have it that overall nasty sick feeling that doesn't come with allergies. 3/15/2012 11:53:19 AM |

unrelated... we are having a hard time agreeing on a name... how did you folks make the final decision? 3/19/2012 9:54:44 AM |
se7entythree YOSHIYOSHI 17377 Posts user info edit post |
i really wanted to use one of my grandparents' names (papa died last year, grandmommy the year before that). i was really close to them & it just felt right. chris agreed. we decided to use their last name as a first name, regardless of the sex of the baby. there wasn't really a lot of discussion, just kinda like yeah we both like this a lot.
we haven't found any middle names yet though. we don't even have a list of possibilities. that part has been extremely difficult. 3/19/2012 10:33:44 AM |
elkaybie All American 39626 Posts user info edit post |
Similar to ^...for us if it was a boy we were going with his late maternal grandfather's name for his middle name. If it was a girl, we were going with my nanny's name for the middle name. I made a list of names that i liked and kept them on the fridge. If he didn't like a name, or the more we looked at one I didn't like it, we marked it off. We had some favorites but no real decision. someone asked us about names, and we were sharing that, and when I said for a boy "Ryan" was a front runner she remarked "could be a girl too" and it just clicked. We really liked the idea and middle name was already decided, so that's how we chose his name. 3/19/2012 4:50:03 PM |

question about bottles: they come in several different sizes. do you need like 4oz ones and 8oz ones, or can you just put 4oz in an 8oz bottle & call it a day? also, how many do i need? 3/20/2012 12:03:48 PM |
bottombaby IRL 21954 Posts user info edit post |
We have three 6 ounce (VentAire) bottles with our daughter.
Silas wasn't interested in 8 ounces at the time until after he was a year old and Amelia seems to be following in her brother's footsteps. Personally, I think that it is better to start with the smaller bottles and then move to the larger bottles. My children started holding their bottle earlier than most and I think that using the smaller lighter bottle aided in that. It may not seem like a lot to us, but there is a size and weight difference between the bottles that I think makes a difference in an infant's ability to hold and maneuver the bottle. If you've ever seen a six month old drop their bottle and then scrounge around for it to pull it back to their mouth, you'll understand what I'm talking about.
Honestly, we really only need one bottle because we wash it each and every time it is used. Silas had to be fed with a specialized bottle that we only had one of, so we got into this habit. Multiple bottles come in handy if you're going to prepare them ahead of time like for a trip or childcare provider, but I never really found it necessary to have more than a few. 3/20/2012 12:32:41 PM |

We got two boxes of dr browns infant bottle set which came with a few 4 oz bottles and 8 oz bottles (3 of each iirc). Way too many since I primarily breastfeed. We could've just gone with one box. 3/20/2012 12:36:12 PM |

awesome, thank you! i didn't think about the kid holding the bottle on its own & the weight difference b/w sizes. this is why i love you people.
i plan on breastfeeding, but i will have to go back to work & the kid to daycare or where ever (really need to look into that stuff too!), so we'll be prepping bottles ahead of time. i kinda wish i wasn't the breadwinner so i could stay home /: 3/20/2012 1:01:15 PM |

Well allow me to dissent. I regretted buying 4 oz bottles. I also regretted buying Dr. Browns. All those little parts to clean have been a royal pain in the ass. If I had to do it over again I'd probably buy the ones with the drop-ins and only buy 8 oz.
But my kids are freaks of nature big so they quickly vaulted above 4 oz. Your mileage may vary. 3/21/2012 11:20:00 AM |

i thankfully haven't had any weird or rude comments [yet], but i've had several random strangers petting my stomach . it's not so horrible i guess. i'd take that over rudeness, but still kinda weird. they just ask when i'm due & if i know what i'm having.
i'm going to a wedding cocktail party thing this weekend with a bunch of self-important snotty rich folks, so i may have some stories after that.
oh when one of my friends was pregnant w/ her first kid, she had to pick up a couple of bags of candy for some church event. the lady at sam's club told her she wouldn't be so big if she didn't buy/eat candy in that quantity. my friend just ran away embarrassed. i would have told the bitch off & asked for the manager. i tend to be a little more aggressive than others though...

I only used 4 oz bottles for a short period of time because my little man is a big eater (8oz! at 4 1/2 months).... so I probably would have skipped them. But then again, there's no way of know what kind of eater you'll have.
My advice - got one bottle of a couple of kinds and see which works best when he gets to where he can take it. We have Dr. Browns, but in hindsight I wish we'd gotten the wide neck ones because he has a deep latch, with ours his lips pretty much go to the collar. You don't wanna get stuck with a bunch of bottles you can't use.

I pumped exclusively since my son didn't latch. I used the Madela bottles with Nuk nipples (low flow and then medium) When he started drinking more than I pump out of one side, he went to the Avent advanced (something or other). It was a super fat bottle. He did not like any of the long and skinny traditional looking ones. Refused to hold or eat from it So I did end up trying maybe 3 different ones before settling. I had two- one for me and one for daycare.
I would not buy tons until you figure out what will work for your baby.
In terms of daycare....I sent the powdered formula and the bottle and like magic they made the bottles there. Now I send 1/2 gallon of milk a week with his name on it.

They make dr brown's in wide neck bottles. It's what we have. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001FA3SQW/ref=redir_mdp_mobile
Rude comments I got, at least I thought they were rude, were people accusing me of not eating enough (was worse in the lunchroom at work...but I enjoyed watching house hunters on my break, so I wasn't changing that habit ). Being hypothyroid I was super sensitive to maintaining my levels & eating right. Another pregnant girl in the office was the worst about it actually. 3/22/2012 9:07:41 AM |
