I don't know anyone who's gotten out of a DUI unless the cops made a big mistake.

They either had to start riding public trans, relied on friends/family, or paid for cabs. Then they had to get interlocks installed.

I know several people who had a choice between a suspended license or weekend jail, and regretted not doing weekend jail.

^^DUI's are difficult to get out of in Wake County without having it show up on your record at least. It's almost easier to get out of a manslaughter charge. Other counties, not so hard.

people dont usually get interlocks unless they've had multiple DWIs, had kids in the car, hit other people, blew a .16, etc

that's incorrect...

the choice is between community service and jail...

and it's not for just a weekend...it's for whatever hours the person is given...

ie, 24 hours of community service or 24 hours in jail...

your license is suspended no matter what....there is absolutely not way around that without getting out of the DUI altogether

and, yeah, interlock is for the "worse than a minor fuck up" cases

my friend got a DUI and it was the first thing every on is record. He got his license taken away and he could only drive to work. He, also, had to do community service.

The weekend thing is how you can choose to split up your sentence. If you have a full time job, and a relatively short sentence, you can serve your sentence in segments. The court doesn't want you to ruin your life over minor crimes. So, if you ever go to the jail at 5:00 on a Friday, there's a huge booking line of people who will be spending the weekend there.

I want to say the max is 6 months of weekend jail splitting, and if it goes over that you have to serve consecutively and they won't break it apart. But I'm not certain on that.
