Purvis has a new list

http://blogs.newsobserver.com/accnow/upper-room-academys-purvis-re-opens-recruiting-releases-list#ixzz1WXxkHS1p

Quote :
"Purvis, a 6-foot-4 senior guard who pulled his verbal commitment from Louisville in May, said he’s now, in no order, considering offers from: Connecticut, Memphis, Missouri, N.C. Central, N.C. State, Ohio State, Virginia Commonwealth and Virginia.
Purvis and his mother, Shanda McNair, said they have no time frame on a decision, but may wait to after they take five official visits, interact with coaching staffs during home visits and thoroughly evaluate each program.
“Instead of rushing into another decision,” Purvis said. “I get to sit down and talk with the coaches more. Gain relationship with every coach on the staff. Just get a good feel for the campuses ... and see what fits my style of play the best.”"

^^^In the linked article it said Duke backed off because they had enough guards, basically. I don't know about L'ville. He originally committed to them but IIRC, their assistant coach, who he really liked, went somewhere else (maybe Mizzou?).

Other than UCONN (who I think is about to be hit with NCAA violations) and Memphis, I don't see why he would pick any other school besides us and those 2.

^I would see Ohio St being a bigger threat than Memphis. Also, from the article:

Quote :
"Purvis and McNair outlined the right fit as a place where he could play immediately. Also, they intend to find a school that fits Purvis’ style of play, with the request that he primarily play the point guard position."

Lorenzo might be gone by 2012, or may slide back over to the 2. And I'm not expecting Tyler Lewis to come in and be the starting pg from Day 1.

^Agreed. I don't see Purvis wanting to play the point being a deal breaker for us.

For what it's worth they have already been punished. Thus only having 9 scholarships next year and 10-11 the year after. They have plenty of room for Purvis, especially with Lamb a near certainty to go pro after next year.

Definitely worried about Ohio State here. Thad Matta is some kind of weird recruiting golden God.

It's not hard to recruit. Just send 'em on down to the Tattoo parlor.

Jefferson will return for an official visit on 9/16, after an unofficial last week. Tyler Lewis is supposedly accompanying him.

We lead for Newkirk now. Apparently one PP poster asked him if he was coming to State and he said it looks pretty good.

look at this! this is amazing. this man states "we lead for newkirk now.", with a period included. then justifies it with someone posted on packpride that he said it looks "pretty good" when asked at a state game. that is far from being his leader.

in simon's defense, the original post was very suspect. somebody on PP asked him what state's chances were, and josh said "pretty good".

listen, i assume that people post what they mean.

if someone says we now lead for a kid, and then offers an explanation, i'm going to assume that the explanation that he gave is the one that's valid. i'm not going to go search twitter to see if there's some more valid reason that he failed to bring up.

that said, anyone who takes "leading" for a kid seriously needs to back up a minute and not read packpride for a day or two.

Shit's gonna suck if Tyler ends up our highest rated recruit, especially considering the recruiting hype that's been built up.

Grant is gone because he basically asked the staff if he committed, they would take him or Jefferson. Staff wasn't ready to say "we'll take you and not pursue Jefferson."

I think Purvis eliminated Mizzou already due to the NCAA investigation into Frank Haith.
