Purvis staying home?

NewsObserver.com reports this morning that coveted shooting guard Rodney Purvis (Raleigh, N.C./Upper Room Christian Academy) will announce his college decision on Friday, and many close to the situation believe that the hometown NC State Wolfpack could be tough to beat.

"I'd be surprised if he doesn't stay close to home and go to N.C. State," tweeted Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com, before adding that UConn is also in the mix.

According to a tweet by ESPN Recruiting's Dave Telep, Louisville and VCU are no longer recruiting Purvis. So in the end, the choice for the highly touted Raleigh product -- ranked ESPNU's No. 16 recruit in 2012 -- could come down to staying home to play for the Wolfpack or heading to Storrs to play for the 2011 national champion Huskies.

"The word around Raleigh is NC State, which makes sense. He's been over there a lot lately, the hometown paper was the first to report the news of a press conference, etc. Mark Gottfried spent a ton of time with him this summer and he'd be a major feather in the first-year head coach's cap. If I had a guess, I'd look for Purvis to run with the Pack."

Coach seems like he has been super focused and making sure he doesnt break rules. He even called out a few coaches on twitter.

Rumors about recruiting violations seem to follow any of the top 20 or so recruits. I'm not reading too much into it. That being said, I hope we get him and also don't receive any letters from the NCAA anytime soon.

Even if he has violations following him, we won't be hurt by it unless he actually plays a game...say we find out about violations before the season starts, he will just have to sit and be ineligible.

This is how it's going to play out:

1) Purvis commits
2) Purvis gets injured during his senior season
3) Purvis is ruled academically ineligible
4) We continue to suck

Possible alternative:

1) Purvis plays and doesn't even remotely live up to any hype he has received.
2) We continue to suck

5) NCAA investigates illegal recruitment of Purvis, we get death penalty, miss tournament for 20 years.
