I think I would have taken the cash if I won. At most, taken it and played several smaller tourneys in the WSOP. Too much variance in the main event as the pros have bitched about for years. 1/7/2011 12:23:47 AM |

First place, $171k.
Look at that final table David Baker, JohnnyBax, and Justin Bonomo.
Last time I was out there he stepped down from the private room and played some 1/2NL with me. Little does he know I'm coming after him at the 10/20 NL game next trip. I been putting in work.

eh, im not name dropping he's a fraternity brother of mine and a pretty good friend.
I make money at my job, poker is a hobby now.
At poker I can beat the 1/2 NL, I've proven that for several years. Great. I don't get a rush of adrenaline at 1/2 NL. I like winning money and I really can crush these games (esp now that I learned to destroy the weak tight ones) so I always play to build a roll and get settled early.
The 2/5 I can beat but really not for more than I beat the 1/2 games, and with probably 5x the variance and risk so I split time between the two games typically.
10/20 NL is a chance to make more money if I can beat it. The rake is significantly lower and yes there are many more good players but there are also often fish at these levels which can make the game profitable.
I'm never going to become a top notch player at 1/2 NL. If I want to play against the very best and give myself a chance to make a ton of money, I need to be able to beat the big games. For me it's worth a try to see if I can do it.
The poker economy is grinding to a halt for the past 4 years so what we're seeing is a lot of people going busto and/or moving down in limits. This means the games will be occupied by a higher % of tourists and lower % of grinders.
It's crazy that 7.5 years ago I was able to rip $1,000/week playing 2/4 limit online. In my first time ever even playing limit poker I won $1k at 5/10 in a three night trip in AC. Those days are long gone, the kids coming along now are better but they dont have bankrolls unless they are awesome. I wasn't even that good back then, the other players were just that bad. I'm 10x better at poker than I was then, but the easy games just don't exist online anymore. You've got kids 16 tabling $0.05/$0.10 trying to make $6/hr.
What that means is that these kids don't have huge bankrolls to take shots at 10/20 NL games. The competition probably isn't as fierce live as you would think. Look around a live poker forum it's a bunch of online grinders saying "this 1/2 game at my casino looks so easy but i only have $300 and im scared ill lose it all".

I disagree. Poker, both local and commercial was way easier five years ago than it is today. Back in the day anyone with a credit card could join a poker site and you could bonus whore a few grand a month easily. Now, with the crackdown of neteller amongst other sites/games it seems that online poker is made up of more serious players i.e. non tourists and the same goes for live games. Hell, the last new game I started playing in got busted by the cops a few months ago. Sure, it contained a lot of fish, but it isn't as easy as it used to be.1/26/2011 12:49:14 AM |

^ im specifically referring to live Casino games.
Im well aware that online is impossible now and i referenced that in my post.
The poker economy has come to a crashing halt. The games are much tougher than they were 5 years ago obviously. That was 2006 when the fake economy was spitting out $1,000 dollar bills to anyone who could sign a dotted line.
What I'm saying is people who were "good" 5 years ago are now not able to hang at the games they used to play. Hell, most of the "known" pros like hellmuth make their money off endorsements and cant even beat cash games anymore.
Not everyone sitting in the big games is a poker wizard. At $1/$2 I'm typically the best player at the table but not always. If I'm the 3rd or 4th best player at the table it's nearly impossible to make any real money (I dont count grinding 8 hours to make $75 real money).
If I was the 3rd best player at a $10/$20 table I could make a fucking nut load. There are a million of 20-28 year olds who are better than me at poker. Problem is, if they aren't MUCH BETTER than me and don't have other means to money (come from wealth, big tourney score, have a good job, etc) then they aren't rolled to play 10/20 and higher live because its so freaking hard to build and maintain a bankroll these days.
Also, if the players really are WAY better than me then sometimes its more worth their time to play online or to play even higher limits than what I'm looking to play.
And I can assure you playing with "famous" people has little to do with anything. That's cool and all if it comes with the territory but really I'm in it to try to win money. The total unknowns are usually better than the people I recognize in the high limit rooms at casinos anyway.
I'm not saying I'm at that level yet, I'm saying I'm working to get there.

which i highly doubt you need to be doing in a micro sng
ergo....raise a fuckwad for more value vs. clowns.

I don't play aces the same everytime. There's a number of different factors that play into it. See my previous post for this instance. Maybe at the higher stakes tables my plays are not as profitable, I'm not really sure because I haven't tried. But it works out for me at the $5-$10 levels. I know I'm obviously not the best player in the world or probably not even on TWW, this is just a niche i've been able to make some chump change at and kill some time every now and then.
I'm not trying to be a badass by any means but if any of you want to challenge me to a 50-tournament competition to see who is more profitable at my stakes I would be glad to accept. Just let me know what date you want to start and we can keep track of results from that date until we both complete the 50 tournaments. 2/12/2011 2:26:46 AM |

I'm confused. I never see you post anything outside of fairly standard plays and beats at those stakes, whats the catch? 2/14/2011 8:45:43 AM |

All I know is that me and some buddies played las tnight and i came out winning and +$30 after being small stack after the third hand until I was able to take a big chunk out of the guy who was 3rd. Only person I actually put out of the game was to win when it was heads up. 2/14/2011 1:48:16 PM |

Guys, this kid made over $1000 last year playing poker. I'm certainly not going to sit back and judge him. 2/15/2011 11:55:20 AM |

^see that's exactly why you are a douchebag. you act like because you play higher stakes than me that you are somehow a better player. I would rather have my $1000 playing $5 games than however many thousand dollars you lost last year playing your big boy tournaments. get over yourself. 2/15/2011 12:07:02 PM |

looks like you've lost about $65,000 over the last couple years between your FullTilt and Pokerstars accounts. Yeah I'll take my $1,000 over that.

Pokerstars

I'm not a better player than you because I play higher stakes. I'm just a better player period.
I was backed after a few big scores. I actually made money over that time frame. 2/15/2011 2:26:38 PM |
