"In reference to the "fired" thread

I've been to a strip club with coworkers & customers on numerous occasions. I've also been with my boss. I am a female. I usually dodge having to go but one time a manager insisted on buying me a lap dance & being in the room. It was awkward. However, not as awkward as a coworker giving me his hotel key at a convention or another coworker trying to tell me he'd leave his wife & kid for me. OR the manager that put his hand down my pants & tried to make out with me by cornering me up against a wall.

This is only a portion of it. I've also been harassed on a regular basis about when I'm getting married and or if I am pregnant. All the time.

Can I retire yet?

I'm not sure there's a salary high enough to make it okay for a manager to put his hand down your pants.

I get what you're saying, definitely, but sounds like an open and shut lawsuit.

If HR isn't on your side, your road to a lawsuit would be much much harder.

My question is why you haven't found another job already--that's several egregious instances of harrassment that I doubt all happened within a couple of months.

she very obviously doesn't want to be specific, not that i would have shared if she had told me, but i'm assuming it's one of those gigs where you have to woo clients with dinners and outings

she's obviously in sales, but no way do they force you to drink or get lap dances

you're just more inclined to make a sale if you show the customers a good time when they're in town

she's probably got a rockin body, but a butterface

this is why the co-workers who hit on her are not repeat offenders

I would put money on it being iheartkisses

she has significant enough self worth issues to keep her in a bad situation like that

You'd think she could speak to HR and make it so she doesn't have to go a strip club if she doesn't want to. And why is heavy drinking part of the job? It's obviously a problem for some people given the crap she's had to put up with.

At least the guys had the decency to apologize instead of justifying their behavior.

She's right about at least this - that it's not an open and shut case. HR is good at addressing patterns, and she hadn't really said anything to indicate that there's a pattern with any given person, just that she was harassed several times and made uncomfortable at her workplace.

I'm sure many of us wouldn't have a problem wearing a recorder to catch those conversation. I mean hell, this is the internet. We're the type of people who record cop encounters just to put them on youtube. Most normal people won't do this.

This is the adult world. The good side doesn't always win. There are really 2 possibilities, and we can't rule out either. She just isn't assertive enough to take proper action, or she's just screwed - put up with it or get out because the entire company is stacked against her. Well, there's the 3rd possibility that ddd just made the confession up.

I'm a writer. Most of my colleagues have no idea what I look like. And apparently, based on the feedback in this thread, it's a good thing they haven't seen my butterface.

But yeah ... the writer of that confession is definitely in sales. And they definitely don't work for my employer.

I know a lawyer who was taken to strip clubs and semi-pressured to drink heavily (because all the old, successful ones are doing it and I guess they expect you to as well) while she was doing a summer work program at a big firm in Atlanta.

"I've considered a job change. The whole company isn't like this, it's kind of specific to my job. I don't "have" to go to the strip clubs. When I was new in the job I didn't know how to handle it. Now I do & I don't go. About the heavy drinking, I don't drink heavily. I have my tricks for getting around it. Things for the past several years have been so much better. The bulk of this happened early on when I didn't know how to deal with it. Now I can handle about any situation.

Why didn't I leave the job when things were bad? The professional experience the job provides is pretty valuable. I'm paid well & the experience is highly valued. Now that I've put in several years, I'm being head hunted by other companies & I'm positioned well in the company for a lucrative career. "
