my point was always you cant expect most people at a $5 sng to play well. You should expect more bad beats, so the things that were happening to you were a product of the stakes you were playing. It's not a diss, its reality 2/16/2011 7:47:20 PM |

Why do people fold preflop after they've already paid big blind? Is it to "show" that they don't bluff? I mean if you've already paid big blind, why not ride it out and see what happens until someone raises and fold then? I don't understand this strategy of folding preflop after betting has gone around the table and no one has raised BB and you've paid BB.

He still has to call and hope they both have pocket pairs. He's getting over 3-1 on his money and with the two other stacks being short as well, they are going to have a pretty wide range. 2/21/2011 12:28:59 PM |

limping with the blinds that high is almost never correct. He should clearly push allin preflop.
As played folding is probably best because of ICM theory. It's very likely that he's dominated by AQ, AK, QQ, KK, AA and there's almost zero chance he's got high equity in this pot. KQo doesn't play well 3-way in allin preflop. Better off surviving and moving up the payout ladder in this spot.
Calling the allins isnt the worst thing ive ever seen, but limping preflop is pretty terrible.

Yeah I lost focus there with the limp.
Immaterial to the play I actually hit the K-9 straight on the turn after seat 2 flopped trips.
I wasn't sure how defendable my play was at the time, but I didn't want to get blinded out (the likelihood of which was compounded by my bad limp) 2/21/2011 12:52:36 PM |

Just curious what you guys think of this laydown:
- 5-handed late in a sit-n-go, blinds are 250/500 - 2x raise to 1000, I call from the BB with KdQc (4-handed) - flop is 49J (all clubs) - I bet 2000 (~2/3 of pot), one caller - TURN - another club, both of us check - RIVER - I raise 2500, he goes all-in for +8K, I end up folding a Queen-high flush
Analysis - the flop bet was good, the turn check was good, but the river bet was dumb. Should have checked with the intention of calling a reasonable bet, but not all-in.

1M/2M Min/Max 50k/100k Blinds
Seat 1: posts the small blind of 50k Me: posts the big blind of 100k

*** RIVER *** [4d Kc 5d 8d] [Ac] POT: 2,941,160
Seat 4: Check Me: Check Seat 3: Check
I win the pot (2,941,160) with a flush. Seat 4 had [Ks 6d] Seat 3 had [Kh Ad]
I suppose I should have raised the pot after the river... i don't know why Seat 3 didn't considering he had top pair. We all probably suspected each other having a flush though. I felt my flush was very weak, but considering the odds, I went with it anyways and I wish I had not hesitated to raise after the river.

awesome trip to the casino tonight guys.
so i'm in vicksburg, ms for the night and apparently this whole town's economy is casinos, so i decide to stop in and play for a few hours (dumb right off the bat). the only games going are $1/3, $4/8 and $10/25, so i put my name in for $1/3 and wait about half an hour to get a seat. since i wasn't planning on staying long, i didn't want to put too much money on the table, so i bought in for $200.
the first hand i see, a guy bets $15 preflop, a woman raises to $30 and gets called. the flop comes out 334, the woman bets $60 and gets called. then they check it down and she shows pocket fives, and it's good.
about five hands later i'm on the button w/ 77, five or so limp, i raise to $10 and these same two call. the flop comes out 794. the same woman bets like $50, so i'm thinking maybe she has a set of 9s but after that last hand i can't get away from it, so i call her, and the guy calls behind me. turn is a 3, she goes all in for $150, i go all in for $166 and the guy calls and tables 56s. the woman didn't show. fucking christ, never should have went. 3/4/2011 1:23:10 AM |

^ no, i said i thought she might have had 99, but wasn't getting off of my set. as in "99?" crossed my mind, but no way was i folding.
it was in both of their ranges to do exactly what they did w/ junk, b/c it was so similar to the hand i already saw, the only difference being me calling in between. i figured they were both on over pairs at best and i'd let them both bet into me.
in hindsight i clearly should've pushed, but ^ is way off, i read that woman totally right. i wanted her to pay me and she would have... had i not run into a straight behind me.] 3/4/2011 5:45:55 PM |

Federal authorities unsealed an indictment Friday against the founders of the three largest internet poker companies operating in the U.S. The indictment charges eleven defendants, including the founders of PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, and Absolute Poker, with bank fraud, money laundering, and illegal gambling offenses, according to Federal authorities in New York. Restraining orders were issued against more than 75 bank accounts used by the poker companies and their payment processors, while five Internet domain names used by the companies to host poker games were seized, federal authorities added in a statement.

NEW YORK — Authorities in New York City say they've interrupted the illegal flow of billions of dollars. They've unsealed an indictment charging 11 people with bank fraud and illegal gambling in a prosecution of the three largest Internet poker companies.
Federal prosecutors in Manhattan said Friday they've issued restraining orders against more than 75 bank accounts used by the poker companies.
They've identified the companies as PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker.
A prosecutor said the companies created an elaborate scheme that included fooling banks and bribing officials at a few to keep money flowing.
The indictment seeks $3 billion in money laundering penalties and forfeiture from the defendants.
Arrests occurred in Las Vegas and Utah.
It was not immediately clear who would represent the defendants in court.

If you had 3k online you weren't "crushing", at least not real stakes, generally speaking most mid-high stakes pros have 25-50k minimum online bare minimum. I've played 7-8k schedules in a day before, and upwards of 25k for a week -- and i'm on the lower end of the food chain for sure. It's certainly reasonable and necessary to have 5 figures online for anyone who plays professionally. Oh yeah and we all knew it was going to happen, once the UIEGA went into full effect, which was not April 15th, 2011. This was more of a swift kick in the dick.
