use your head. the only way she would be on that flight if she were trying to get back to the island is if she knew that the plane would crash. i dont know about you, but i'm not about to get on a plane that i know is gonna break apart in mid-air, because that would just be dumb.

probably though, these are the people from the tail section and they don't trust sawyer, michael, and jin because they've run into "the others" already and don't know there are other survivors, so they probably just assumed at first that they were part of "the others", which is why they attacked them and imprisoned them, and then tried to find out more about them through ana-lucia.

i dunno man. again, look at the physical ability of Ethan and the physical strength of the folks that imprisoned michael, jin, and sawyer. That one black guy kicked the crap out of all 3 of them...and none of those guys are wussy. My vote is that the others are part of the genetic research project on the island, or have somehow been genetically effected by what's goin on the island. their strength just seems super-human.

I bet the whole plane crash and what not was an experiment. The entire show is an experiment, both on the viewers and on the entire cast. Dharma wanted to see how people would react given the situation they were put in.

just a couple of thoughts on the inclusion of The Turn of the Screw.

First, from what I remember, and looked up online real quick, the book centers around the question of what is reality? In the story the main character "sees" ghosts, but it is never fully realized if they are in fact real, or if they are a creation of her own psychosis. This plays right into the show's mystery and ambiguity, and brings up the question of what is real, a question that seemed to come up a lot in Wednesday's episode.

Second, I believe, the move "The Others" (hmmmmm...) is loosly based on the book. The movie shows the "reality" of the main characters, only to reveal in the end that their reality is not what it seems (I won't spoil the ending for anyone that hasn't seen it). This is also a fitting plot/twist that works well with the series, and the idea that the survivor's reality is not truely reality (i.e. pergatory, social experiment/truman show theories).

i missed some of the early episodes, so i dont know what you're talking about with ethan, but as far as the black guy having superhuman strength, i think you're just plain wrong. he beat the guys up because he had a huge fucking stick that he was hitting them with, not because he's the hulk or anything.

i didn't say it was, just that the idea of "reality" (the island) actually being something else (pergatory, a social experiment, whatever) is a key twist in "The Others", and that the question of "what is reality?" is a key part of the The Turn of the Screw. Both seem to fit well with how the show has panned out so far. It would be interesting if anyone who has a more intimate knowledge of the book and watches the show had anything to add.

Why not push the button?

Unless you have some great reason not to do it, it'd be better to ere on the side of cation.

If I was just one person on the island and I was there indefinably I'd say "fuck it". But being there with 40 other people, it'd be pretty easy to set something up to make sure that button gets pushed and no one has to go crazy in the process.

But then again, there is the possibility that the Dharma people have it setup so they know when it's pushed to see how long the experiment goes. If they miss pressing the button maybe they go to the island and see what happened or to explain the experiment to the person working there and get all of their stuff out. So it might kill them(highly unlikely) or it might get them saved(also the likelihood is slim since the project has been running forever).

and seriously, the group Ana-lucia was with is NOT the others.

There's the fuselage group, consisting of the doctor, locke, hurley, kate, and a number of other characters we don't care about.

There's the tail-section, consisting of Ana-lucis, Bernard (rose's husband, who we're suspecting is alive), and all the other survivors. They've been on the island just as long as the fuselage group.

And there's The Others, consisting of the people who took walt, probably Ethan, and any number of other people.

The only reason we think they're the others is because Jin said so. But dude can't speak or understand english, so while in captivity he wouldn't know the difference between the tail section, and The Others.
