No, they made the P220 in 9mm.
However, I DID mean to type P226.
I was definitely planning on buying the XD from Lawmens. They've always had the best prices I've found locally on any of my guns.
Just curious if anyone had a special deal on the Sig or the XD. 10/5/2008 12:04:02 AM |

hey guys i'm looking for a handgun but i'm not really sure where to start. I was going to buy one of my dad's but the only one he wants to sell is his .44 magnum, and i'm not really sure that's necessary.
I was thinking maybe a 9 mm or 380. What is a good first gun? And used, what price range am I looking at? 10/5/2008 2:48:35 AM |

Best first handgun is honestly probably a .22 of some kind so that you can start with the basics rather than trying to learn them while being confronted with recoil at the same time. That said, I started with 9mm & I'd imagine most shooters start with one of the main calibers. I would skip the .380. It's a pointless round unless you're dealing with a pocket pistol and that's not what you want for a first gun.
What are you wanting the gun for? There's a ton of options out there that are all good choices but your proposed use would help to narrow it down a bit. Without that, I typically recommend checking out a Glock 19, Springfield XD9 Service (4"), S&W M&P9, Sig P226, & maybe a Beretta 92 or Taurus thrown in for good measure. The 1st 3 are going to be lighter & easier to carry around all day if you go that route. The last 3 are going to be a bit heavier but the extra weight can help dull some of the recoil which is always helpful when you're learning. The XD & Sig are my personal choices. The XD feels better to me than the Glock or S&W & the Sig is just a Sig. Once you own one, you'll want more. Your best option is going to be shooting several different options before buying one. Either rent some from a range or try to meet up with some people that own some of the guns that you're looking at. 10/5/2008 4:28:00 PM |

do gun ranges typically have decent guns to try out? I used to own a .22 pistol but I want something bigger. I'm a good shooter. I'm from a pretty rural area so i've been able to target shoot since I was young. Like I said though, all i've really shot is the 380 and the .44 magnum. I'll try to find a sig or an XD that I can try out before I buy it. I want to start on a 9mm I think and get a .45 once i've owned one for a while.10/7/2008 3:39:58 PM |

time to thin the herd and buy some more shit. Prices are set, must have a ccw or a handgun purchase permit or meet me at PDHSC( you pay the fee) for firearms/recievers. I am offering this here before it goes on gunbroker. Pics will be in the gallery tonight if it works, if not PM me with your email address and I will send you pics. I have ten (10) Essential Arms stripped AR 15 lowers, coated black by them, with sequental serial numbers. $100 each or $950 for all, one has a Del-ton LPK installed. Its in the middle of the range and will be sold after all the rest unless you buy several. These do not like Pmags, but I dont like Pmags so I was cool with it. 9 of these are still wrapped in the newspaper from LA that they came in.
SKS D or M,( 16''barrel) this is one that takes AK mags. It came from Norinco like that, has a nice blonde sporter stock. It also has no charger cut on the bolt, no bolt hold open and the trigger pack is specific to these models. The magwell is only cut for the AK mag, not the huge opening like the rest. These are rare, This is only the 5th one I have ever seen, I have another one that works like a champ, can be made to accept an ak drum, but wont right now.Figure out Sec.922r for yourself. $450
For the 1911 fans- Foster overrun ( Caspian) Govt. Carbon, novak f/r, forward serrations, serrated flat top slide. Going to build a commander, and this is a Govt slide, so here it is. Never fit and will require fitting to your frame. Has one darkspot, will come off with steel wool. $220
And for those who really want a project- 3 JPE 1911 frames from Sarco, these are tweaker frames from about 2001, before they sold them as tweaker frames. They are cut to officer size( they were in between sizes, not oacp not a govt), with a filler tig welded in for the lower GS bushing, hole has been located and tapped. The MSH hole has not been drilled on some, frame tangs have been welded on, and the fuckers at sarco didnt tell me that the ejector pin hole had a bit broke in it (2 of the frames). These will require some work but can be made to work if you like this sort of thing or need some junk to practice on. $50 each or $100 for all.
Springfield Armory 1911 barrel with link, factory 2pc $60.
Ed Brown Beavertail jig, $16 Wilson Combat Beavertail jig $16. EB highgrip BT, carbon been blasted, $20 EB firing pin for Springfield 1911s( wont fit anything else) $5 new in the package.
and finially, 2 brazilian surplus 1911 slides, have been glass beaded and radiused on the front, a product of my younger days. I just built a Foster frame and added one of these, fit pretty well since the frame had some thicker rails. $50 each two for $90

The best first gun is one that fits your hand the best. Try some out, rent/borrow some from friends/ranges. Honestly though, the best first gun is either a .22, or whatever you end up buying with a .22 adapter on it.10/9/2008 11:49:57 PM |

FS: Springfield Armory XD-9 subcompact, $300 - CCW or permit required
comes with original case, paperwork, 2x 10rd mags, and SA gun lock
This one has the original bruniral finish, so it's got some holster wear

^^i agree with the remington 700. most bang for the buck.
the best advice i can give is to not make the mistake of buying a $700 rifle and putting a $200 scope on it. buy a $200 rifle and put a $700 scope on it. you'll kill and drop more deer.

3 of 11 All American 6276 Posts user info edit post |
^ the P-01 has the rail, and has an ambi-decocker, the standard 75 has a manual safety (though there are decocker versions of the 75). The P-01 is a bit more compact
The SP-01 combines both the P-01 rail and the full size of the 75, there is both a safety and decocker model.
Its a matter of personal preference really, all CZ's are fine choices. 10/17/2008 12:19:33 AM |

Kinda funny coming from a guy who said:
Quote : | "guns should be outlawed, especially handguns and assault weapons. the second ammendment was not intended to provide gun ownership rights to individuals." |
Hunting rifles are more deadly than "assault" rifles in many situations.
Anyway, here's my advice: Don't buy a 270 or 30-06. That would be more gun than you need. Deer aren't hard to kill, it's not like they're thick skinned and heavy boned. The honest truth is a 270 or 30-06's maximum point blank range isn't significantly more than something like a 308, 260, or 243. We're talking about an advantage of maybe 15-20 yards in MPBR. Shooting past MPBR is where the advantage really picks up. BUT, at those distances most hunters (most, not all) can't judge distances, don't know the trajectory, can't compensate for wind drift, and simply can't shoot well enough to make a good shot.
You'd be better served with the lower recoiling cartridges. Cartidges I'd recommend are (in order of most recommended): 243 Win 7mm-08 260 Rem I'd personally pick the 260, but the 243 and 7mm-08 would be better for the average joe due to ammo availability. These cartridges have the advantage for new shooters because it is hard to learn to shoot heavier recoiling cartridges well.
Lets not fool ourselves. Yeah, I shoot big guns. I shoot a 458 Win mag on occasion, my deer guns are a 308 in a 7lb rifle (recoils more than a 30-06 in typical rifles) and a 6.5lb 12 ga slug gun, and my favorite revolver is my 480 Ruger. I can shoot those big guns well but I'll go ahead and tell you that I can shoot a gun consistently better if recoil isn't a factor. The old idea that a 30-06 is the recoil limit for most people was made up, and is perpetuated by guys who are too proud to admit it hurts.
So, go to the store and fondle a Remington 700, Savage 110, or Weatherby Vanguard. If your pockets are a little deeper, fondle a Tikka T3, Browning A-Bolt, or Winchester Model 70 Classic. Pick whichever one feels good when you shoulder it and get it in a 243 or 7mm-08. It really doesn't matter which one you get, they'll all work great for killing deer. I will say if you want the more accurate ones with better triggers then look hard at the Tikka and Browning. The others are simply accurate enough.
Then, go find yourself a Leupold VX-I in 3-9x40mm (BTW, it's "loo-pold," not "leo-pold"). Don't get a Vari-X I, get a VX-I. They will cost around $200. It's the only $200 scope I'd buy if I wanted decent quality glass. Leupold takes their older models, renames them a step down in their line, and prices them a step down; so the VX-I is actually the older Vari-X II. The cheap Leupolds will have fewer features than other scopes in the same price range, but the construction quality is better and the glass is cut better. Better lens geometry and more rugged construction are better than having features like click adjustments and multiple (poorer quality) lens coatings.
If you're willing to spend more than $200 on a scope then the number of good scopes are endless.10/17/2008 1:05:07 AM |

A new trigger guard rivet and maybe a new rear stock trunnion and stock, it has a us made fire controll group and the hammer is a lil thicker thanthe original I guess so a little filling down on the hammer to keep the bolt from stiicking and being sluggish, thats what i would do, it functions now but I would suggest those fixes. 10/18/2008 5:01:06 PM |
