Wait, so that broad is trying to get random people to give her money so she can start her own business? WTF? I mean if she can do it fine but who the fuck would donate money to that? It isn't like we are talking about a non-profit organization set up to help those who are less fortunate, we are talking about a for profit company that tons of other people have started without asking for handouts. That just screams laziness and is pretty pathetic IMO. Sure lots of people need help starting their own business but getting help from family/friends is a lot different from expecting random people to do the hard work for you.
7/6/2012 11:42:46 AM
I mean...as much as I want to, I can't hate on her at all. There are plenty of other people in this world (models mainly), that get much more money for doing less work. If the idea works, go for it.It makes me wonder if she has already tried the investor route. Because with those looks and personality, I'm sure some millionaire would loan her $200k to start her own gym and at least get a kickback. This is a sweet deal to own everything 100% and not owe anyone money.
7/6/2012 12:14:09 PM
people do these sorts of personal fundraisers all the time, why not?
7/6/2012 12:44:41 PM
^^ you're right. I think if we all had the opportunity to be in her position, we would take it in a heart beat.My CrossFit days are behind me. Or at least , numbered, for now.
7/6/2012 2:41:12 PM
That's the whole basis behind indiegogo and kickstarter. You raise money because you are not willing to risk everything to start a business/create a product. It used to be necessary to almost go broke to start something and then have a small chance to become successful. Now it's just throwing up an idea on one of these funding sites and let everyone else pay to do it.On topic, I'm still not sold on crossfit. The cost of joining a crossfit gym is just stupid to begin with, and I'm also more interesting in putting on some size. I don't need something else to cause my metabolism to be even higher. A ton of people swear by it though, and I've seen plenty of videos with guys that are completely jacked doing this stuff...who knows.Maybe when I finally move to SC I'll change it up and look into something like this instead of a typical gym.

joined this one http://www.crossfitrva.com/its about 5 minutes away from my house. they have pretty decent rates as well. got the 3x/week option.i believe they also changed their name from crossfitRVA to performanceRVA. in addition to crossfit they offer training specifically for powerlifting and strongman competitions. thats pretty much what interested me considering that i am also keeping my membership at Golds[Edited on July 9, 2012 at 5:14 PM. Anyone catching the Games this weekend at all? My girl Foucher is 2nd right now.
7/15/2012 11:22:49 AM
That was an intense finish for 3rd place in the women's competition. Love the last three wods.
7/15/2012 5:41:10 PM
They came up with some pretty creative WODs this year. My fave was the 400m -bar muscle up-split snatch. Only because I love running+lifting combos Stacie Tovar should leave the porn star makeup off while she is working out though lol

i have never tried crossfit, but i watched a documentary on rich froning last night. that guy is an absolute beast.

7/26/2012 12:14:01 PM
Cindy is a 20min AMRAP...you didn't do Cindy.Nice job on Diane though.
7/26/2012 1:02:23 PM
Huh, so it is. I guess because it was a warmup, it was modified. Maybe I'll do the actual Cindy this weekend.
7/26/2012 1:28:35 PM
You should try it...def brutal. We have a few ppl with 20 rounds at our gym....and one with 26

Mike, I recommended your place to a lady I met the other day. If a former-military-new-to-the-area woman drops by, that's her.

They do get recycled a lot. I don't know how you still read them. Nothing new to add. Ever.

The case for short met cons ( metabolic conditioning). Thoughts?http://robbwolf.com/2011/11/09/the-case-for-the-short-metcon/#comments

7/27/2012 9:31:58 AM
^ ha! that's awesome.anyone doing the 31 heroes workout next week?
7/27/2012 9:39:31 AM
^^^That's why I pay for my trainers to program the workouts. I kind of just trust that they know how many short and long metcons should be programed.^^That's great! Who says crossfit doesn't train you for specific activities?^Our box has scheduled 31 heroes for the following weekend. But yeah, I am signed up.Trying to get more to join me.
7/27/2012 12:11:13 PM
I typically don't program anything over 12 minutes, unless it's a holiday and we're doing a hero WOD. Right now we do one longer WOD a week (on Saturday RIGHT before our rest day). When I switch the template to Westside for strength we will no longer be doing anything over 12 minutes. I'll probably mix back in longer stuff 2 months before the Opens start next year so that everyone is ready for all time domains.
7/27/2012 1:29:53 PM
So Mike, what do you think about this Anthos debacle?
7/30/2012 7:52:35 PM
^ha! Thought about posting this.Just sounds like a nasty divorce.
7/30/2012 8:20:08 PM
Not really sure what to think. I feel that Glassman has it under control, but I'll deaffiliate like most others if shit goes south.
7/30/2012 8:42:46 PM
honest question... what is the benefit to being affiliated?
7/30/2012 8:52:58 PM
The recognition of the name is high on the list, but the truth is I love being part of the community. Could we do it without the CrossFit name? Probably, but we'd miss out on a Lot of people who are interested in trying it. It really isn't any more complicated than that.
7/30/2012 9:46:56 PM
Right. It's the same as any type recogniition of branding in businesses/products.
7/30/2012 10:15:07 PM
I hate when I read the WOD wrong and do twice the amount of an exercise as I'm supposed to

Looks heavy, and a Strong Man inspired WOD. Are you new to CF? If not, I don't think a trainer should incorporate any Strong Man stuff until technique is perfected.

my box's WOD: find max rep double unders for 20 minutesstupid
8/20/2012 12:01:11 PM
That sounds shitty. I imagine it gets brutal at about minute 6.Today's WOD7 Rounds:10 jump squats (45 barbell)12 pullups20 netter press (25lb plate)14:07Not too bad compared to last Monday's triceps explosion.
8/20/2012 12:51:21 PM
^^tell me you're jokingIf not, what gym is this?
8/20/2012 2:00:13 PM

8/20/2012 2:38:10 PM
What is wrong with the WOD? I really don't see anything wrong with dedicating a class session for a skill that almost everyone need to work on. DUs take time and practice. And pretty sure after 20 min, it should become apparent that it's a respiratory exercise as well. I don't think it's a completely useless WOD in that respect.I am not saying a WOD like this should pop up frequently, but it does force students to work on the skill.
8/20/2012 3:59:34 PM
SMH... paying ~$20 a session to practice 20minutes worth of double unders?
8/20/2012 4:03:18 PM
^^I wouldn't be stoked to get to the gym and see that as the WOD, but I do agree there is value in it. EVERYONE sucks at DU's at first, and at least 75% of the members can use a LOT of practice. I'm pretty terrible at them, only managing to get a DU after 2 or 3 regular skips (I can't string them together just yet) and I'm still better than a lot of folks. It'd be a lot easier to stomach seeing that WOD if there was just a single other exercise. If you're going for cardio/legs, throw some box jumps or burpees in there just to make it look like the trainer didn't take an off day.
