you know, I just started telling people how we might have a chance at a good season... and I wouldn't say that this kills that or anything, but it certainly will be a solid blow against our D. I was really looking forward to watching him play this season. I guess now some other guys are really gonna have to step up.


Removing the frustration and aggravation, on the more human aspect of it, I'm at least glad he's alright, that it wasn't something more serious. Best of luck to him and his family while he works through this.

I think a lot of people had built up pretty high expectations and the Irving wreck popped their balloons. I still see a solid 7-8 win season and bowl game. As long as we improve year-to-year, I'll be happy. I wasn't really expecting to win the ACC this year regardless of media outlets picking us as a "darkhorse". The darkhorse rarely actually wins when the media picks them anyway.

We have some depth at linebacker and quite a few young guys who haven't had a shot on the field yet. Nate was the same way last year, young and unproven. Nate is definitely a special player, but I'm excited to see what other young guys will look like who haven't seen the field yet.

Josh Nesbitt, Georgia Tech, junior Nesbitt was impressive last year running Paul Johnson’s wishbone offense, racking up 693 yards and seven TDs on the ground. He only tossed two touchdown passes, but the only concern was the beating his body took to all the rushing, costing Nesbitt nearly three games due to injury. However, a year into the system, combined with his fine decision-making, puts him among the league’s best and dangerous QBs. 4. Tyrod Taylor, Virginia Tech, junior Taylor is Frank Beamer’s kind of quarterback: shifty, fast, somewhat Michael Vick-like. However, he doesn’t have to be a world beater to make the Hokies go. Taylor is 13-2 as a starter for a reason and his 738 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in 2008 make him the leader of possibly the league’s best team. He won’t, however, have to do it all by himself. Beamer makes sure of that. 5. Christian Ponder, Florida State, junior Being the Seminole QB used to be one of the most coveted positions in all of college football, thanks to Charlie Ward and Chris Weinke winning Heisman Trophy awards. Now, it’s a spot forced to answer questions about production every year. Ponder turned out to be steady last season but needs to be more spectacular this year. FSU’s offense is improving under Jimbo Fisher, and Ponder must work on his TD-INT ratio (14-13 in 2008). The ability is there and behind an experienced offensive line this season, he could have one of the better passing seasons in the league. 6. Chris Turner, Maryland, senior On paper, 2008 was a pretty good year for Turner: 2,516 yards, 13 TDs, 11 interceptions. However, he finished with the worst completion percentage among the league’s top five passers. At times he looked like an All-ACC QB (360 yards and two TDs against Boston College) and during others he seemed just plain lost (3 picks in loss to Middle Tennessee State). His experience, however, could pay big dividends for the Terps this year. 7. Thaddeus Lewis, Duke, senior Lewis has topped the 2,000-yard passing mark the last three seasons and has turned into a fairly good decision maker for the hapless Blue Devils. Unfortunately, few people pay any attention to Lewis or Duke football, therefore making him an underrated commodity in the league. Another year learning coach David Cutcliffe’s system could change that. 8. Willy Korn, Clemson, sophomore I flipped a coin at which QB I would list here. It could just as easily be redshirt freshman Kyle Parker running the offense in the fall. That, along with both being inexperienced, puts the Tigers behind most of the league. It’ll be easy to move one of them up the ranks if either gets off to a great start and puts Clemson in a big bowl. RB C.J. Spiller and a solid O-line will help, although Korn and Parker are too much of an unknown right now. 9. Tyler Yates, North Carolina, junior Despite being on one of the most up and coming teams in the league, if not the nation, Yates is full of questions marks. First off is his health. He missed six games last year and injured his thumb in the spring throwing a Frisbee. Second, Yates lost some major firepower. Receivers Hakeem Nicks, Brooks Foster and Brandon Tate went in the NFL draft. Despite all that, coach Butch Davis has recruited well and expects to win now, whether Yates is ready or not. 10. Jacory Harris, Miami, sophomore Robert Marve is gone, leaving Harris as the true starter. With new offensive coordinator Mark Whipple bringing in what’s supposed to be a very exciting offense, Harris’ athletic ability should fit well with the new Miami style. Harris tried to add some pounds during the offseason to handle the poundage. If he’s bigger and remains fast, the Canes have a shot at developing a playmaker. 11. Jameel Sewell, Virginia, senior I’m listing Sewell as the Cavs’ starter, although it’s far from clear if he’ll be the main man. He’ll compete with Vic Hall and Marc Verica in UVA’s new spread offense. If Sewell sounds familiar it’s because he was the up and down starter for the Cavs in 2007. However, he was ruled academically ineligible in 2008 and hung around to get another shot at playing. 12. David Shinskie, Boston College Despite ranking Shinskie last in the league, there’s no real knock on him because no one’s seen the 25-year-old minor leaguer play much football. And if BC ends up with a terrible year at QB, it’s not his or the Eagles’ fault. Dominique Davis was supposed to be big time, but he skipped town and head coach Jeff Jagodzinski was shown the door in the offseason."

I think they have T. Lewis a little low on that list. He really is a good player and has played well for Duke, he just hasn't gotten as much support from the rest of his team. I think he'll have a solid year this year if he can stay healthy.

Besides you being a UNC fan, what makes you think Yates will be a top 3 qb with no Nicks or Tate(for when he actually played) to rely on. I guess you could make a case for him due to the lack of good qbs in the league. I think this list below is the most accurate I've seen, except I would rank Ponder in the top half.

The school is set to announce discount packages for buying three-game packages and opted to lower the IPTAY points required for donors to obtain tickets for the USC game. ``We're going to take a hit,'' ticket manager Travis Furbee said. ``But it remains to be seen how bad it is.'' Clemson figures to be among the hardest hit in the ACC because it is believed to possess among the largest pools of season-ticket holders. Florida State typically requests the maximum 7,500 tickets opposing schools are allotted for conference road games. A year ago, IPTAY raised a record $21 million, a $5.6 million leap from the year before, in large measure to a new seating plan that awarded the best seats to the most generous donors instead of those who had given the longest. And Clemson encountered a welcomed problem when so many donors increased their contributions that not as many premium seats came available as anticipated. Bill D'Andrea, senior associate athletic director and IPTAY supervisor, said membership has dropped by nearly 2,000, with 55 percent of the departures coming from within the two lowest levels of giving. Thus IPTAY's contributions total stands at $19.6 million. Hill said IPTAY's shortfall will not affect its duties in funding scholarships or supporting the department's academic enrichment center. Tuesday marked the end to the athletic department's fiscal calendar year, and Hill said Clemson will come in about $750,000 to $1 million over its $52 million budget because of unexpected expenses. In November, university president James Barker raised the amount auxiliary departments must give to the school to 7 percent, an increase of $1.5 million (to $2.7 million) for athletics. Biggest reason for hope -- Quarterbacks

Unlike coach Tom O'Brien's first two seasons in Raleigh, there's no question who the starting quarterback is -- Russell Wilson. He also happens to be the best quarterback in the ACC, and he finally has a backup who isn't a liability in Mike Glennon. Both of them are going to play, and they bring different strengths to the offense that will keep opposing defenses alert. Wilson is one of the most accurate passers in the conference, and Glennon has already drawn comparisons to Matt Ryan.

Biggest reason for concern -- Injuries

It might have been the program's biggest weakness over the past two seasons. We saw how good a football team NC State had in the second half of 2008 when everyone was healthy, and we also saw it fall apart in the second half of the Papajohns.com Bowl after Wilson hurt his knee. Strength and conditioning coach Todd Rice is slowing rebuilding the Pack's philosophy and approach to training, and in turn there should be fewer injuries this fall. NC State will fall out of the Atlantic Division race again if players like Nate Irving and Alan-Michael Cash don't stay on the field.

Just because the public doesn't know what bone is broken doesn't mean he doesn't. I would be pretty suprised if he doesn't already know where his leg is broke. They can tell that pretty quickly with an x-ray.
