Well I was somewhat joking, but being that TOB has never lost to UNC should count for something. chuck never cared about that game.

All these posts make me laugh. We have played one ACC game and injuries, new quarterback, and loss of best defensive player matter. It has been a rough start but the season is far from over. Posts should be about what TOB should be doing this season to start winning not about getting rid of him...plenty of time to analyze how good he did this season once it is over. Right now we need to beat GT and get things going in the right direction.

Archer needs to go.
TOB can stay...for now.

just for arguments sake, what is it about Archer that everyone hates? Look, I don't really care for the guy, but our defense DOES NOT play the same way it played two seasons ago, when we refused to blitz or bring pressure. Adding Tenuta really changed the philosophy of this defense and it seems pretty clear that we are focused on getting takeaways (something we didn't even try to do two years ago), so aside from us just being bad, what specifically is it about Archer that bothers people?

The refusal to change secondary coverage during the game. Our secondary is never on the line of scrimmage with the receivers always 10 yards off, which is why we get burned on slants all the time.

I think the biggest complaint is that we run one scheme. Although the scheme has changed between seasons, we still only run one. There's no mix up of zone and man, we either never blitz (09) or blitz every down (now). Once teams have tape they know exactly how to hurt us and there are never any adjustments or wrinkles that the coaches add to counter.

head scratcher. i don't really know what you mean by this. Are you saying we went from ultra conservative to ultra liberal without any variation? Because I disagree, if that's what you mean.

This just isn't true. I mean, I agree that we never blitzed in '09, but we mix up the pressure this year (and last year) mostly due to the improvement of our linebackers (good job, Tenuta). Of course, having freshman on the DLine limits the effectiveness of our blitzing, so we haven't gotten as many takeaways as we would like (and I swear we've forced a few fumbles that we just didn't land on for one reason or another). I really think our D problems this year (so far, anyway) is a product of personnel, not schemes. I'll be surprised if our D is playing this bad at the end of the season when we return some starters and our younger guys get more experience. This isn't '09, where teams like Duke are gonna burn us on simple slant plays over and over again.

Maybe you can get Thaddeus Lewis on here to explain to you why Archer is such a good guy to keep around.

Well we don't know whether Duke would own us this year because they aren't on the schedule, and thank goodness they aren't.

Why not address some points Thaddeus Lewis made in his post game interview about our defense and tell us all how we've improved.

I understand that we have multiple blitz packages and bring pressure in different ways, some of which are very effective. But we do it every play which is what I mean by running one scheme. We never show pressure and then back off to confuse the opposing team we just blitz. The announcers from the cincinnati called us out for it after the 1st quarter. Every offense we play has been calling plays to neutralize the blitz and we still never mix it up.

looking at the lay of the land in college football, if we continue on this slide, we had best make a move. our only serious competition for in-state talent is about to land on probation and simultaneously about to attempt to fill their HC position, we appear to be one only three stable major conferences out there, and we have the resources in terms of support and facilities.

now might be the right time to try another leader.

Beat Georgia Tech? Who's next, Alabama and LSU?

Georgia Tech is going to beat the everliving piss out of us. I'd put the over/under on their points at 50. Seriously.

When I look at our schedule I don't see a lot of teams left that we can score 40 points against.

And that's how many points we're going to need to even put up a fight each week.

everyone will come around after the bc loss. we. haven't won at wake clemson or bc in tob's tenure. the best we can do at this point is sit back and cup the balls as paul johnson ponders which hole to stick it in next

have we lost to the triple option? i think thats the only thing this archer defense is actually good for. give the huge 10 yard pad that way your corner has time to make up his mind if its a pass or not.

we had some huge plays last year by RW that helped beat them. i won't say it's impossible but highly improbable. the only things that are going in our favor now are:

1. we are due for a statistically due for a nice game (kind of like the bills were against the pats)
2. we have the home crowd this week
3. GT is due for a fuckup (kind of like the pats/bills again)
4. some injuries coming back (maybe?)

even with all those factors, we still lose, high 30's to low 30's score.

Really the only reasons UNC lost were because:

a) Renner is who we thought he was. He had one nice drive, but beyond that he couldn't throw the ball down the field and threw two ugly picks. Obviously Glennon is much better, so we should be able to move the ball.
b) Their corners/safties got beat deep a few times. I feel like Wolff and Bishop are more experienced and will be able to roll over the top to cover those deep routes if Amerson/Wilson get caught looking in the backfield.

I think we should give them a good game.

Any word on the Stephen Hill injury? Or was it a "I just dropped a TD, I should fake an injury"?

Are Sweezy/Reiskamp suppose to be back?

statistically due is a horrible reason, GT overlooking us for being a horrible team is slightly better, getting some players back on the d-line where we're so thin that we had to play a fucking o-line transfer from campbell against cincy is probably the best reason to expect a worthwhile game.

^^^I don't know about Sweezy or Reiskamp. I would assume Reiskamp would play since he was pretty much a game time decision vs Cincy. All along people have been thinking (based on the initial timeline) that Sweezy could be back for this game...so we'll see.

Has Tom O Brien actually BUILT this program? Or did he luck out with an anomaly at QB and a stud MLB. I'm seriously starting to think that there really hasn't been much building of the program going on...I can't emphasize enough how important recruiting is and he is clearly not getting the job done there.
