I just watched the PL Review Show, to be fair to Balotelli, it was a pretty harsh red in my opinion. It looked like a kicking but he was really kind of just brushing him away with his leg. I can definitely see why the red was given though. It's just kind of a shame somebody gets a red for that and Huddlestone got away with the deliberate stamp in the Bolton game. I'm sure it had something to do with Balotelli's rep.

It was still incredibly stupid to do, and if it's not a straight red, it's still a 2nd yellow so the end product is still the same. 3 game ban is a bit much

btw, I love the Review Show - full game highlights for best games of the week, condensed highlights for other games, no bullshit analysis, short clips from managers after each game, and a look at the table. I'd probably watch a review show of any league decent league in the world if it were in that format

It's funny that the review show for the Japanese league has an anime graphic before each game's highlights.

I dunno, man...imo Balotelli's actions definitely merited a straight red. Shoving somebody down and then kicking them in the chest (however softly) is always a red card, and while his reputation probably made it an easier decision for the ref, I think that's a straight red card for anybody.

Last year someone on here described Balotelli as a "cancer"...after seeing a bit more of him this year, I'd definitely have to agree. He's like TO, except his craziness is malicious.

yeah, I didn't mean it wasn't a red card, it was just on the harsh end. Reading game reports and stuff, it made it seem a lot worse than when I finally saw it. And the 3 game ban just makes it look like profiling because how can Huddlestone get off scot-free for what he did?

Balotelli's an interesting character... it's fun having him in the Premier League but I'm glad he's not on my team.

What a waste of time watching the derby was. Looked like a World Cup final or something, no one wanting to conceded a goal, just kicking it around in the backfield and then a half-hearted long ball. Wish I would have watched any of the other games today...

only got to see about 30 minutes of the first half but the result was about what i expected. i figured a draw would come out of this, just thought it would be 1-1, rather than 0-0

essien is gonna get a 3 match ban for that red card today but damn if he doesnt deserve more than that. i know dempsey had elbowed bosingwa in the face earlier and it might have even been pay back to dempsey, but what the hell. imo, stomps like that deserve at least 5 if not 10 games suspended. no place for that kind of shit...

the last minute or so of this video you can find dempsey's elbow and essiens stomp

city did great to get out of there with a point imo. they pretty much got dominated in possession. nani didn't look up to for to day. and yeah, what a dick bag move subbing in the 93rd minute to waste time.

wow carol enchilada...turn off the blue tinted glasses....wouldve been better off just saying you didnt see the challenge.

Quote :
""I don't like to judge the decision,'' said Ancelotti. "But I can say that maybe it was not a red card because Essien made a strong tackle, but on the ball.
"There was not a risk on the opponent. I think he went for the ball, the last ball of the game, an important ball. I don't think he did a silly foul. He tried to do a tackle, he won the tackle. And I'm not sure it was a sending-off.
"I'd like to see it again but directly, on the pitch, I didn't think it was a dangerous tackle. I hope we won't lose him for three games. That would be a problem if we lose him for three games. We have to wait, I think. I want to watch the replay before doing anything.""

Dempsey should have been sent off for that reckless elbow

Essien's stomp was not nearly as egregious as Huddlestone's stomp this weekend.

I really don't think it was that bad being that it was a play on the ball, but whatever JTMONEY you are just letting your hatred of the Blues get to you since you couldn't put away an out of form City team.

Yeah, it's hard for me to say so cuz he's a Yank, but Dempsey's elbow was at least as bad and he didn't even get a foul called on him. Essien's an asshole for what he did, but he didn't even make contact with Dempsey. Kinda like he knew what he wanted to do and then backed off at the last second. The intent was there but he didn't actually do anything. Both were probably deserving of reds though in all honesty.

no one makes a tackle like that without trying to hurt anyone. ive played soccer 20 something years and not once have i ever wanted to tackle the ball from someone in that form or fashion. the only time you ever make a tackle at the ball like that is to try and hurt someone, simple as that. there is no way you can tell me that making a challenge like that is a smart way to win the ball from someone...jumping onto the ball? really? he was trying to go in hard at his ankles while making it look like he tackled the ball. im surprised no one else sees that. if he makes contact harder on dempsey i think others in here would have a different opinion. any stomp made at all whether contact is had or not should be suspended the same value.

and huddlestones was the exact same he just made more contact with it. both players should be suspended the same amount of time (a long time) for stomping. you are turning yourself into a weapon by adding extra force into a stomp into someones ankles or onto their body...

and its not cause i hate chelski, i would be furious if a united player did this and would want the same punishment. i hate wreckless challenges and i cringe anytime i see paul scholes start to go for a tackle cause i know theres about a 50% chance its gonna be a yellow card or worse...

Yeah, what the fuck are you schmucks talking about?

It was a blatant attempt at bodily harm. It was just poorly executed.

At least Dempsey's elbow may not have been entirely intentional.

With Essein, there is no doubt what his intentions were.

Where did I say it wasn't a red card offense? I didn't. I just said it looked like he pulled out at the last second like he changed his mind. There was still intent there. I just don't see how a world class athlete of Essien's ability would have the intent in his mind to injure someone and not even make contact on something like that if he followed through on it. I completely agree with the red card.

But I also said that Dempsey kind of had it coming to him. The only reason he didn't get sent off was because was smart, unlike 95% of people who do shit like that, and didn't look behind him right before it happened. That's one thing referees are trained to look for is eye contact. Dempsey was smart and didn't look back. He knew Bosingwa was gonna be on his back, felt him put a hand on him at the last second and swung his elbow back. The only reason it looks accidental at all is because he never looks back. He clearly intended to do it. No one swings their elbow back like that without the intent of clocking someone and this move did 1000% times more damage than anything Essien did to him later.

That's all I said, I didn't really disagree with you.

Joey Barton up to his old antics today with a punch in morten gamst pedersons chest. When will he learn

and essien definitely deserved a red for that stomp. dempsey could've gotten one too, but essien was just blatantly stomping, it wasn't even a soccer move.

I totally agree about Dempsey but for Essien, I agree with JT's quote here

Quote :

It's all about intent. Why the fuck would you try to win the ball by jumping up and coming down with both feet together? Who cares if he made any contact, it's dirty as hell. The suspensions/fines coming only after somebody's been injured is completely short-sighted... cut all the instances of people obviously attempting to hurt somebody too. And I hate Chelsea but I've always really liked Essien so I hated to see that kind of tackle from him.
