i'm about level 22 or so but my smithing is over 90 and i now have Daedric "gauntels"...finally killed a giant by myself with just fists though his friends and mammoths were pissed
where can i buy/mine some Ebony so i can make some more Daedric badass stuff? though i'll need some more daedra hearts too but I think I just recently got the invitation to the museum where i can get a few 12/17/2011 4:51:10 PM |

check blacksmith vendors periodically, you can get all the ebony you need from them. 12/17/2011 5:10:57 PM |

i guess, it just seems like the smiths in Riverwood and Whiterun (both the girl and her dad at the Warhammer, and the old man at the Skyforge) only have ingots or ore up to dwarvish or orcish stuff with no ebony, but that might have to do with how far i am through the game though
also I just finished the Graybeards quest, learned a few new words, but I only know 2 total shouts...other ones are grayed out and say i need a dragon soul...every time i kill a dragon it says "dragon soul absorbed" but I can't seem to unlock new shouts (even when I read words)...do I need to prepare something right before a dragon dies? I've killed like 5 or 6 of them and don't want to "waste" their souls 12/17/2011 5:15:20 PM |

^ I was wondering the same thing for the longest time... Read the UI very carefully. There is an option to unlock the shout, click that button.
For PS3, it's square I think. Dunno what it is for xbox

I got ebony ingots from the girl and her dad in Whiterun all the time. Be prepared, each ebony ingot I bought ended up costing me about 450, so if you have to buy 20 or so it's going to get expensive.
I had a low speech skill though. Maybe you'd get a better price with a higher skill, or saving a potion/item to reduce vendor costs.
Xbox: The number of unused dragon souls is in the bottom right hand corner of the Magic > Shouts menu. To unlock one, scroll to a shout, press X to unlock, then confirm the selection.

^^cool thanks...my TV is old so the edges of the screen are cut off...I'll do some research
^my speech is about 31 but i do have a perk where I get 10% better deals from vendors of the opposite sex, so i sell all my stuff to the girl in Whiterun, or the fence at the Thieves Guild 12/17/2011 5:19:50 PM |

Okay, point of clarification: The man who works inside Warmaiden's is NOT the father of the woman. Her father is Proventus Avenicci, the Steward to the Jarl.

The vendors sell blacksmithing goods based on your level I believe. It took awhile for ebony to regularly show up iirc. Don't forget the guy at Belethors goods.
Your best shot may be to look in the guide linked above and find an ebony mine 12/17/2011 6:22:22 PM |

looks like vendors and blacksmiths start selling ebony ingots once you reach level 27, so i'm relatively close
and apparently you can get enough daedra hearts to make all the armor without killing any daedra (i stole one from the main dude's quarters in the Companions headquarters), havent researched the other locations though
^it looks like they patched that unlimited Doors of Oblivion book glitch right near Sightless Pit...i went back for a 3rd time with my horse and the skeleton was gone

For a place to mine tons of ebony, go to Gloombound mine in the far east. It's right next to an Orc stronghold in the mountains east of that swamp where Kynesgrove is.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Gloombound_Mine
It's got 16 ebony ore veins (3 ore per vein) plus a bunch of ore and a couple of ingots just lying around. It's full of orcs who get all pissy at you if you aren't an orc, but they don't attack you so you can just take all their ebony and leave. 12/17/2011 8:27:55 PM |

There is a Moonstone mine similar to that. No one is in there because of a sinkhole opened up an old Draugr crypt. You can offer to go in and "make it safe" and collect about 20+ moonstone ore. 12/17/2011 8:54:02 PM |

Nobody told me about the hired assassins that come after you if you do evil shit.
I started a new character this afternoon (I refuse to call it re-rolling, since I'm neither giving up my old character, nor rolling a damn thing) and went straight to Riften and joined the Thieves guild. Leveled up to Level 12 doing nothing but stealth, pickpocketing, and lockpicking (and I suppose a little speech from selling all my stolen goods.) So I fast traveled to a city for a numbers mission and there waiting for me are three fairly beefy dudes. I'm still at the starting level for all my fighting skills, and only wearing the Thieves guild armor, with a basic sword and bow and arrow. I am not even close to being able to take on one of these guys, much less 3 at once. I just tried for the last hour or so, using every cheap AI trick I could think of, and I only managed to get one of them down to about 30% health before dying. This sucks. I was purposely delaying all combat until I had leveled stealth to 100 and gotten all the perks that basically let you be invisible/one shot kill almost everyone. I suppose this is the way to make the game be not so easy for thieves, but I wish I would have known so I could have prepared a little better. 12/18/2011 2:02:02 AM |

Just became the Arch Mage of the College today. It was a pretty cool story, but I too wish it was more drawn out. I like how Morrowind did their epic quest chains, especially with having to visit several branches of the Mages/Fighters Guilds across the world and complete dozens of quests, qualify for several ranks by tasks and skill level before even being able to start the final guild master quest. I mean, I just became the Arch Mage of the Mage's College and I can barely muster up enough mana to cast Incinerate, and most of my spells are Novice or Adept level
Also, aside from using potions to increase enchanting, then enchanting +alchemy items, etc, I feel like the huge quantity of potions in the dungeons has really made Alchemy obsolete as a skill. I can craft Restore Health pots for 24 HP all day, but they're all worthless when compared to the dozens of +75, +150, +Completeheal pots I find scattered around a bear cave.
Of course, I could Alchemy perks to make them worthwhile, but I'd rather get +30% weapon damage 12/18/2011 1:44:18 PM |

HEY DUDES
I'm getting this for Christmas, whether someone picks up the hints or I get it myself. My computer meets or exceeds the recommended system specs except for the video card (it's a GeForce 7900 GTX)-- it's 512MB instead of the recommended 1GB. Do I necessarily need to upgrade this or will I still have an enjoyable experience? 12/18/2011 1:47:22 PM |

what are a couple of the best Standing Stones to use for leveling up? when i first started and left Helgren and got to the first set of 3 stones, I took the Warrior one instead of Thief or Mage, but I found one a few days ago on top of some cliff that was called the Lover Stone that says you learn all skills 15% faster...I guess which stone you use depends on the style of your character you play but the Lover Stone seemed like a good overall one for leveling up all your stats 12/18/2011 2:05:28 PM |
ThePeter TWW CHAMPION 37709 Posts user info edit post |
^^Its hard to say for some of us, since we bypassed that and just got it on a console . I would be hesitant to play this game on a 512 MB card when 1 GB is recommended, since there are a lot of instances where you are overlooking an epic cliff to see the land spread out around you...could make things dicey. There's also the problems you could run into when there is a lot of magic on the screen. Then again you could possibly just turn all of the options down, but I'm not sure if it would be enough. What you could just do is buy it and if it doesn't work, go out and get a graphics card since it seems you're hell bent on getting the game.
^I went with Lovers Stone when I finally found it. My play style is generally well rounded, and I'm not sure if for example the Warrior Stone would help with leveling up Enchanting, or if the Mage Stone would help with leveling Smithing.
Originally I probably went with Warrior Stone, but then I soon found the Ritual Stone (resurrect every dead body around you once a day) and thought that was pretty sweet.
