Trade deadline needs to be 2/3 thru the season like other sports. They have it early so it gives teams less time to realize they're not going to contend and have firesales of their good players. Smart from a business sense, but shitty from a sense of excitement. Palmer, Lloyd and Brown (and Moss last year) are three of the biggest moves of the last decade.

The Palmer move is only big because the Raiders gave up so much for him. There's a very small chance of him actually having a decent year in Oakland (although I would like for him too...I like Palmer).

It would be big if they gave up two 7th's and some jockstraps. He's a legit starting QB in this league and players like that never get traded in season. Most deadline deals our your backup guard for our practice squad safety.

i guess Al Davis' final wish on his deathbed was to sign Carson Palmer, at any and all costs

Raiders have to win a playoff game for it to be a first rounder (for 2013) right?

Thats what Glazer said. Would be funny if Oakland wins the West and Cincy gets the 5 seed so they play in the first round.

Win/Win for Cincy...as a fan, I'd almost root for them to lose...almost.

Sims Walker wasn't bad last year with the Jags, but if he got cut by the Rams who have absolutely no WR depth, then either did something wrong, pisssed off the coaches/management, or just plain sucks ass. Panthers don't need anymore dead weight.

It's not like he's starting right now. Even if he hadn't pulled the hold-out bullshit, there's a good chance he would have been benched in favor of Dalton after a couple shitty starts. The guy WAS a legit starting QB. It's a mediocre story because of Palmer, it's a big story because of what Oakland gave up. The Bengals were HOPING to maybe get a 2nd round pick. They've more than doubled that. Al Davis must have written this last deal into his will.

Palmer would be have been a no brainer starting QB for over half the teams in this league had he been dealt in the off season. He's definitely Oaklands #1 now. Effectiveness after such a long lay off from actual on field play is another story.

Jason Campbell is one unlucky mofo. 5-6 offensive coordinators in as many years and then when things are finally looking (somewhat) up for him, he gets injured and his team goes and sells the farm for a big name QB behind his back.

Carson Palmer is a bigger name than talent at this point in his career. But if you don't think a player of his stature getting traded midseason is newsworthy, regardless of the compensation, you don't understand the economics of the game.

i don't know if i would rather have Grossman with last week's 4 picks or Beck's first NFL start as a good matchup for the Panthers

hopefully our D can make Beck look like Grossman did last week.

It has nothing to do with economics. It's not like Matt Ryan or Matthew Staffod just got traded. A guy who was voluntarily sitting out (and basically retired) and was not going to play at all for his team this year...just got traded to a 4-2 Raiders team that MIGHT make the playofffs. It was just a freak situation. You had a player who was unhappy with the organization and an organization who was being stubborn and wasn't going to cave to his demands. It was like two kids pouting on opposite ends of the playground.

The only "economics of the game" that came in to play here, are the dumb economic decisions made by the Raiders. They probably could have gotten Palmer for a 2nd round pick.

I'm not saying this isn't interesting...it's just not as groundbreaking as people are making it out to be. It's just a freak situation.

well that sucks, but can't say i'm not surprised

i wonder if he plays out his rookie contract or gets cut before it ends. i would rather find a guy who can play every game than wait for this butthole to get healthy

double post

signed G Reggie Wells

looks like Bell gets first look at RT, and if he struggles, Wharton will move to RT and Wells would likely start at LG

everything I have read about Brandon Hogan describes him as "rusty", but I imagine he can get it together in a 3 week period. if not, they should at least activate him to give him another couple weeks, because we could definitely use the depth at CB.
