I just read "The Zombie Survival Guide" by Max Brooks. To put it bluntly, "World War Z" was a vastly superior work.
The survival guide assumes a very specific type of zombie, which has features that are unlikely to be exhibited by the undead/infected (for instance, climbing ability). He then procedes to suggest a number of implausible responses, including the preposterous suggestion that military bases make for good fortresses.
He does his descriptions of equipment justice, at any rate, and his establishment of the machete and the M-1 Carbine as ideal weapons are well-considered. 6/12/2007 4:09:17 AM |

Isn't the USAS 12 classified as a high-level destructive device?
Also, you know that they make 9mm and other pistol caliber carbines that are probably a lot cheaper and use more standard magazines, plus folding ability. 6/12/2007 3:26:36 PM |

I was talking about how he was able to get in the country. Someone that was bitten might be able to sneak in and when the sickness over took them it could lead to a mass outbreak. IE. The person becomes fully zombiefied during flight and starts to attack. If he was taken down by the air marshals the plane would have to have an emergency landing for the injured and you know how crowed the airports are. This could lead to a mass outbreak of zombies.
I bet we would have some political groups fighting for zombie rights! 6/14/2007 5:27:55 PM |

What about the Coca-Cola bottling plant on South Wilmington?
Industrial building with limited windows, ample supply of bottled water, and I'm sure one could jerry-rig a variety of neat tools with the equipment inside. Plus its next door to a pawn shop, which should have a nice supply of weapons.
Plus, through the woods is a Sams Club

I do surely hope that the rabies virus never mutates to become slower to show symptoms but faster to attack (in a matter of minutes).
Then we might have a zombie problem. 6/28/2007 10:13:21 PM |

fyi, if you're ever in biloxi, mississippi during an invasion there is an island about 20 minutes south of the shoreline. it's an old military base. looks like a castle. you would have to bring food but you can only get there by ferry. would be ideal. oh and its currently unhibited.7/6/2007 3:47:59 PM |

What about birds/flying insects that could get the zombie disease and transmit it, like the birds in RE:3 or insects in the xbox 360 zombie game? 10/24/2007 11:55:27 AM |

^Not necessarily. See: 28 Days Later. I don't know if they count as zombies though since technically it is a virus and not undead. 10/24/2007 12:56:41 PM |

Well, we were closely related to the ape so it could spread. I guess we are saying that things like dogs, birds, chickens, horses, cows, etc the animals that don't closely match our DNA won't get the disease. Oh that and they will either run away from or stomp the shit out of a bunch of humans running after them with that batshit crazy look in their eyes.
Now, I will tell you when I was last thinking about zombies. When I was at the state fair. My brother admitted it too. You were up to your ears in people and there was nowhere to go. All you need is a little zombie panic and you've got hundreds and hundreds of dead (trampling/stupid people panic), then thousands more become zombified to form the massive starting rush of undead people who go and start converting everybody else. Oh yes, that would be a dark day indeed. 10/24/2007 1:04:37 PM |

Quote : | "Saturday, October 27th, join us at sunset (6:26 pm) in downtown Raleigh (Moore Square) for the first Raleigh Zombie Walk. For the uninitiated, it's a simple concept -- you dress up in zombie gear, lurch your way through downtown with the other zombies, and stay in character, grunting and slurring, on the hunt for fresh brains and flesh. Just don't break any laws and don't screw with innocent bystanders. If we've got volunteers to be "attacked," more power to 'em. Otherwise, just freak out the ladies and gents out on the town with your zombie-like antics. A good time will be had by all. The Walk itself is a family-friendly event; possible bar crawl to follow for those over 21.
And for those heading up with me, we'll probably head to IHOP or something, y'know, even zombies need late night food stops.
More details forthcoming..." |

Reading the thread it seems the problem would be much more serious from mosquitos who could possibly carry contaminated blood and pass the condition along...in which case you're fucked. Same would apply for any other insects that could transmit disease, such as cockroaches and flies. This still depends on the nature of the condition as to how well it could be transferred.
Birds most likely would still avoid humans, despite any who fed on the fallen zombies they wouldn't have a need or instinctual urge to attack survivors. Carnivorous animals would be an iffy, but I say the only ones that could be a threat would be cats and dogs (pets) who could infect a person by biting them after eating a zombie. Just because they are immune doesn't mean they can't carry the virus!
The disease could also get into the human ecosystem via processing and food chain dynamics, ala Mad Cow disease 10/24/2007 2:17:05 PM |
