"Thank you for your e-mail. You may purchase an IPO (Initial Public Offering) at Scottrade after it begins trading on the secondary market.

Prior to the market open on the first day of trading, IPO orders must be called in to your local Scottrade office and placed through a broker. Due to the inherent volatility of an IPO, only limit orders will be accepted until after the stock begins trading. Once the stock begins trading, a market order can be accepted and orders can be entered online.

Scottrade is not an underwriter for any Initial Public Offerings; therefore, we do not have access to shares before they begin trading on the open market.

For more information about IPO releases, click the 'Quotes & Research' and then 'Calendar' under the 'Markets' section. Click on the 'Initial Public Offerings' tab to view additional information about upcoming and recent IPOs."

Anybody trade with an underwriter?

but a 5% bump in after hours...

and the next quarter is supposed to be the weakest...

^^

the bull is back?

or

got the bull by the balls?

or

the bull is going away?

(the 3rd is the one I would think you'd mean, but I'd be a little surprised at that statement)

^^ haha, yeah, i was waiting for the bottom, then blinked and saw nothing but bull balls.

^ yeah, i was up ~3% for a while today. think i was up about 2% for the day at the bell.

for only knowing enough to be dangerous, i'm actually doing really well. averaged 23% return on the 3 stocks i've sold since opening my scottrade account (kept 2 of them just over 1 year to go LT, and the other one was AAPL, which I kept for a couple of months). I'm also up 22-23% on the rest of my portfolio since inception, which was maybe 15 months ago (and a lot of it is stuff I've bought more recently than that).

^ that's pretty good

..the longer this volatility continues, the more predictable it becomes. there's a takeoff point forming right now. its going up. don't know if it will end up.

just reenterd BIDU

why are my BRIC (brazil, russia, india, china), Europe, and NA mutual funds for a total of ~$600 as compared to 1 week ago? that's about 6.5% down.

papers say stock markets are down because of fears of American home prices or something?

VMWare is going up on its target for the IPO ... looks like cisco and intel are going to make some good cash out of this deal, as well as secure some influence into the company.

With the current market volatility and the fact that the target for the VMWare IPO is shooting up, is it even a good idea to invest the first day? For some of you more seasoned traders, how much does an individual investor stand to gain or lose by going in on a stock the first day it is offered? Obviously, long term, we would expect healthy growth from VMWare, but I'd prefer not to take a bath first.

""Ars Technica is reporting that Dell may be considering bundling virtualization on some of their motherboards. No more dual boot or VMs inside the running OS? 'Any way you slice it, though, putting the hypervisor in a chunk of flash and letting it handle loading the OS is the way forward, especially for servers and probably even for enterprise desktops. Boot times, power consumption, security, and flexibility are all reasons to do this ... The big question is: which hypervisor will Dell bundle with its machines? Vance suggests hypervisors from XenSource and VMware as two options, but I think that VMware is the most likely candidate since it seems to be the x86 virtualization solution of choice for the moment. However, if Dell doesn't try too hard to lock it down, this system could easily be modified in an aftermarket fashion to include almost any hypervisor that could fit on the flash chip.'""

go to bloomberg.com and see the video clip of Marc Faber. he says we're entering a bear, and will be a buyer when RIMM, GOOG, and AAPL go down 30%.

...bailed myself out a little bit with IAU, and got back in BIDU for shits and giggles.

yea our stock market goes up and down, and sometimes it takes big hits which does have an effect on the rest of the world. look what america has done for the rest of the world with its economic wealth. the world would be complete shit without us... and now everytime our market takes a swing all you foreigners make a 180 and say how much you hate america and how we're shit. just wait until the economy goes up, you'll be reaping the benefits again.

I mean, MAYBE I am hallucinating, but yesterday's/today's crash IS because of "subprime" home buyers in the US, isn't it?

And I didn't say "America" nor implied "all Americans."

i said i never said or implied all americans, and i didn't. i am not stupid to blame 300 million people for something like this. as that would be impossible.

in my original post you will see a qualifier before "AMERICANS". don't quote me partially!!!
